Think about this:

An Evil Palidin riding a Nightmare (pg. 195 MM) who doesent get along with his party well (always criticising them and their fighting ect. ect.). They only accept him because his father is the King, and he's only on the party for the treasure and the pleasure of killing things.

Well thats my char idea and i was wondering if I should play him.

P.S. My vision of him looks cool! :)

And another question:

Based on this char description, what alighnment would he be?

No its an evil character idea.

Playing characters that do not get along is a very dangerous recepy for anyone except the most experienced players who can roleplay it VERY WELL and other players who can deal with it EXCEPTIONALLY WELL.

Is the rest of the party good? Then you've already signed your own death warrant.

Additional: You have only told us his class and his mount. You've barely described the character completely.

As for alignment, an Evil paladin (Does that mean an ex-Paladin, or an ex-Paladin+Blackguard?)

A Paladin would lose all class benefits when they leave Lawful Good, so an Evil one would be at least Lawful Evil (Likely if he's working with the group, if reluctantly).

A Blackguard would need to be Evil for the alignment, and have had peaceful contact with an evil outsider who was summoned

1. Its for a new party so ill talk to the other char about an evil party

2. Im thinkin ex-pali+blackguard

3. Further description: I juss got the idea by flipping through the players handbook so all I know is: Human ex-pali blackguard who focuses on spelcasting/swordfighting (its more of a story char but im trying to convert him to PC...mabye i could give him to the DM for an NPC?)

Well thanks for the feedback (if thats the correct word for it)

P.S. Another question is: PC or NPC?

If you want to play the char: PC

In an evil party it could work.

Generally speaking, having a character who's specifically designed to not get on well with the rest of the party is risky and will only lead to arguments in-game and, subsequently, out-of-game.

how bout making him some prestige or something. why would you use a fallen palidin? i am sure they have prestiges equivelent to fallen paladins with unholy power or something...

It's a long shot that'd you have access to it, but Dragon Magazine Issue 312 has 3 Evil Paladin variants (LE, NE, CE), and Issue 310 has a variant for every other alignment. They are the only Paladins I'd ever play. Stupid Lawful good Paladins. :pbbbtt:

But that's just for the paladin, it's probably not a good idea to design your character FOR party conflict. Nothing good can come from that. Not that character conflict can't be fun and good times...but working to make it happen...bad bad bad bad

If they are not evil, it won't work well.

If they are quick tempered, it won't work well.

If they resent his prescence, it won't work well.

They will find a way to get rid of you. And you won't be happy with it.

Hi,
it doesnt depend so much on whether your group is good or evil, but rather whether it is lawful or chaotic. If he is the king's son and they are assigned to work with him (which suggests they may be lawful or at least act like it in order to avoid messing with the king), the party should function even if there are complications between the characters. How many people dislike the people in their class or their colleagues but have to put up with them and do so for a long time? Just because the characters' alignments are opposite does not mean they will act them out.

Most likely, there will be issues in extreme situations, for example when dealing with hostages. As a noble with an evil alignment, you will probably have no troubles killing rioting commoners etc. since they are in your opinion the ones who are violating the laws. A lawful good character would have put them under arrest and a chaotic good character could have sympathised with them. It just depends how much the players are thinking in alignment stereotypes and how much they let the situation determine their actions (how many of us have disagreed with rulings of authorities in some situation or another but did not do anything about it)?

An evil character is not automatically a murderer in serie, he could only be selfish and/or power angry. A LE character, and perhaps a NE character, might be concerned by his organisation, his land, his familly, especially if the character is a prince.

OTOH, I wouldn't allow you the Nightmare. An evil human is something, an evil outsider is something else. For a party, an evil character can be very annoying but negociable, and at best, it can even be redeemed. An evil outsider is EVIL made flesh, good character will attack you on sight. You could perhaps ride a black stalion with red hooves for the show, but keep it an animal.

He might make a decent BBEG in the future.

He will never be playable as a PC unless you're in an Evil campaign, and even then he'll probably get CdG'ed the first time he goes to sleep. Having little more to his concept than 'annoy/**** off the rest of the party' does little to help him stay alive.

Evil characters who expect to survive their fellow PCs don't flaunt the fact that they're evil; they keep it low-key, even (or perhaps especially) if they're the most diabolical human to ever walk the Material Plane. As long as your fellow players don't have a smite-happy, Lawful Stupid Paladin, you can play an EVIL character in a Good campaign, and it'll be a long while before your fellow party members catch on.

Subtlety is the key to survival.
