God, Ive been playing for ten years..same group same people
SAME DM..and ive had only two 7th level characters and die instantly at that mark, the other ones werent as lucky.
So yeah, have had like a 1000 characters and they die, the whole group keeps dying, we cant be that bad..is our dm a jackass, probably.. he's the type that doesnt tolarate fantasy
or fantastic things, ive heard some dms threat their characters like heroes..like an action star that never seems to die, i was just wandering is this normal??

Your DM is either putting you up against too difficult of an encounter, or the players are not coordinating together at all.

however, it is up to the DM to balance the challenges, thus making the game fun, and also creating character development. if you die all the time, you run out of ideas for persona pretty quickly.

Odds are you just have a killer DM, but before I cast any judgments could you give us an example or two of your past parties and what ended up killing you?

Sounds like a killer "old school" DM to me too. How can he not tolerate fantasy in a fantasy game?

I suggest you give DMing a go and create the game you would want to play.

Break out of that prison dude, life is too short. Eventually you got to be the hero...they can take your life, but they can't take your FREEEEEDOOMMMM!!

Ten years with the same group and nobody else has ponied up to the DM side of the table? Instead of complaining, put your money where your mouth is and run a game yourself.

I wasnt really compleaning about it, just asking if its that normal, it gets frustraiting you know, our dm tells us well you cant win all the time and you cant live forever it would be boring, we always start characters at their 20's needless to say they dont last a month..oh well just asking if someone relates to this situation

If you are starting characters at level 20, of course it won't last long. Game balance breaks down incredibly and it would be impossible to challenge you without the DM making rules up and changes constantly.

Try starting lower, like at 5 and you should be able to adventure with those characters for a long time, as long as you raise them when they fall.

They're not starting characters at LEVEL 20, but at 20 years of age.

Ive been playing for ten years . . . and ive had only two 7th level characters and die instantly at that mark, the other ones werent as lucky.

our dm tells us well you cant win all the time and you cant live forever it would be boring

Your DM's attitude is all wrong. Yes, characters aren't supposed to live forever, but they ARE supposed to die with style. They're HEROES after all. How would the Die Hard movie franchise have fared if John McClane had been killed falling down the elevator shaft? PCs are supposed to either WIN or go down with style most of the time. The occasional unglamourous death (failed Jump Check, sneak attack going critical with max damage, etc) keeps the players from becoming complacent.

But what fun is getting whacked ALL the time before your rogue manages to get Skill Mastery or the ability to activate a wand more than 50% of the time?

Yep. Someone else should indeed take the Big Chair. With a forum handle like "MoltenDM", why not you?
