undefinedhello guys

im making a new character for a new campaign... the basic idea i have is a TWF invis blade.

im planning making an elf. and we will roll our stats when we arrive to the first session.

now i have this progression

1 sorc
2 swb
3 swb
4 swb
5 rogue
6 invis
7 invis
8 invis
9 invis
10 invis
11-20 assassin

now im taking the swashbuckler levels to gain free weapon finesse insightful strike...

the level in sorc so i can have minor magics like true strike plus shield and stuff.... what spells do you recommend me to choose for that level,
the invisible blade so i can wield 2 kukris at melee and then assassin...

im planing making a very versatile melee rouge with some magical abilities so i can also use wands stuff...

the only thing that worries me is the skill point distribution... does swashbucker get goo skill points or not i don't have the CW with me

any suggestions for the character???

thanks in advance.

suggestions?

name?
religion?
major motivations?
family members alive?
is he/she royalty/nobility?

while i can appreciate your work and desire to have the sneaky sneaky cut-em-up (and he sounds like a peach of a head chopper) this is a recipe for a machine, not a char as i understand it...

how bout this...

an intrisically magically talented elven youth steals away to the human lands to perfect his art.

along the way, while practicing with some unusually shaped knives, he realizes a talent and penchant for cutting other people (and critters) in places where they tend to keep their warm and squishy bits...

(explanation for sorc. and swashbucler levels right there)

invisible blade follows pretty much directly from constant use of the blades, and the rogue level could come from a bit of time spent as a burglar/con-artist (cant really see this char doing much thuggery or heavy B&E type stuff)

beyond that, i'd talk to the other party members (i assume you are not playing solo) and see what kind of concepts they have in mind, and the DM, of course.

as far as 1st lvl spells, you can't go wrong with mage armor (for long-term) or shield (slightly better), featherfall (never know when you're gonna take a tumble on a 2nd story job, and likely true strike...although now that i look at the 1st lvl sor/wiz list again, there are just too many...

um...

perhaps a Enlarge Person/Reduce Person/Disguise Self/Charm Person combo was not what you were looking for, but hey...

think of the possibilities there.

unless i'm miscalculating again and you dont get 4 spells.

I think he was talking about the build and not his background, as I'm going to assume you already have one, or whatever.

Although I don't have a DMG in front of my, don't you need evasion to become and assasin, or is it only the ranks in hide, move silently, and disguise? Either way it sounds pretty cool to me, although some DMs make you finish a prestige class before starting another, in other words, You'd need to be invis. blade 10 before starting the assassin levels.

Except that Invisible blade, as written, only has 5 levels.

Unless you are using a varient of some kind (house rule) your character will be facing an XP penalty for multi-classing from level 4 on. (Either that or I've always missinterpeted the two level rule.) As pointed out before the 'blade is only a 5 level class and it has been stated that such classes are not balanced when extrapolated to more levels.

Other than that not really a bad concept but it does need work.

original 10 level class here. (http://www.wakinglands.com/htm_files/prestige_classes_invisible_blade.htm)

I have a semi-similar build... although i might suggest wiz 1 instead... less versility, but it does provide a small synergy with intelligence being a key stat.
As a plus, you can learn more spells, for unique situations, but not always have them available.

Unless you're either going to make him human or have a special arrangement with your DM, keep in mind that you'll be taking a 20% experience penalty as your highest level base class is neither your favored class (for elves it's Wizard) or within 1 level of all your other classes. Just a friendly reminder.

As for spells, I would take:
[0]Prestidigitation, Mage Hand, Dancing Lights or Light (Dancing Lights is more versitile but shorter lasting), Ghost Sound and Arcane Mark (for forgery 'n stuff).
[1]Feather Fall, Shield (your armor should be better than +4 and you're unlikely to be using a shield), and Charm Person.

if you want to use simple magics, don't bother taking a sorc level; just use UMD. the DC won't be all *that* high.

as for the background.. the one you showed me its great.. if i may i wil use it .. thanks..

now...

the XP penalties are not use this time... our DM wants us to try other classes besides human and dwarf so... no problem on that...

well Invis blade is 5 levels... and.. well i like the sorc level
first for flavor and second for the read magic, detec magic, familiar and first level spells that can be used for a thief... like charm person and stuff... so Cha score.. wont be much of a problem.. only not a negative one..

i want true strike because my DM loves dungeon adventures so im looking at tons of traps so my disable devise HAS to be far better than good... plus ..
its always nice to have true strike for those DA as an assassin

but if its better have scrolls and wands for those spells instead of that sorc level....

From a skill-perspective, it would be a good idea to take the Rogue level first, since you would get an extra 24 skill points at first level that way. Other than that, I suppose the Character Optimization forum could give you more pointers as to how good the build is :)

You still haven't mentioned any spells that can't *easily* be used with UMD, or even a potion. Wand of Detect Magic, potion of True Strike, ... the minor difficulty of obtaining items is not worth the loss of +1d6 SA and 6 skill points (8 rogue - 2 sorc = difference of 6).

(And that's not even mentioning the comparative loss of skill points at level 1, as outlined by a previous poster.)

And it still takes 1 standard action to cast true strike, compared to 1 standard action to quaff a potion. In other words, you don't gain anything by being able to cast it instead of drink it.

But, hey, it's your character, feel free to shoot yourself in the foot all you like.
