Item Creation and Starting out at 5th level. [Archive] - Wizards Community

Just wondering what the general consensus on Item Creation is when you start above 1st level. We're starting at 5th, and I made a Wizard who took Craft Wondrous Item at 1st level.

I stated, with my 9000g for a 5th level character, that all the Wondrous Items I *could* have made, I did make, therefore saving me some money.

He vehemently opposes the idea that I could "cheat" to get more things for less money, where I think that by taking the feat, I should be entitled to the benefits.

Any thoughts?

10-03-06, 10:26 PM Craft Wonderous Item requires CL 3.

I suppose it's fine, but your DM is well within his rights to still charge you the XP cost of making those items. In other words, you're probably going to start at level 4, and you still can't, by any means, have more than 18,000 gp in items at the start.

10-03-06, 11:04 PM Think of it this way, you don't start at 5th level, you start with 10,000 Experiance. Each Item you create would indeed cost less, but would cost you xp as well, meaning you would start at a lower level. Sorry, no freebies.
