I'm making a new character, and it's either going to be a Rogue or a Ninja. I want to be really good at social espionage (disguises, bluffs, etc), but able to stand my own in combat as well. Here's my idea so far:

Race: Changeling (+10 if I'm using the power to make a disguise)
Class: Ninja
Skills: Disguise, Bluff, Jump, Hide, Climb, Move Silently, Spot
Feats: Improved Critial(Kukri), Weapon Finesse(Kukri), Combat Reflexes, Two Weaponn Fighting, Improved Two Weapon Fighting

Because I'm adding my DEX to attack rather than STR, it effectively becomes a dump stat for me (only use it for skills, which aren't as important in my party). Now I've looked at a good number if items (In the DMG and MIC, mostly), and have come up with a few things to get.

Gloves of Dexterity +6 (DMG Page ???) [Improves my attacks and AC]
Amulet of WordTwisting (MIC Page 71) [Bonus to social skills]
Ring of Vanishing (MIC Page 128) [For those times when Ghost Step runs out]
Strongarm Bracers (MIC Page 139) [Larger Weapons = More Damage]
Rogues Vest (MIC Page 130) [Extra Sudden Strike damage]
Shadow Veil (MIC Page 133) [Hide anywhere shadowy, +1 to AC]
Crystal Mask of Dread(MIC Page 91) [+10 Bonus on intimidation]
Cloak of Stone(MIC Page 88) [Meld into stone for those times I need to hide/escape, and bonus to move silently + hide]

Now, there are two sets of boots I want:
Sandals of Springing (MIC Page 131) [+10 Jump, Cost 10K]
Boots of Agile Leaping (MIC Page 76) [Use Dex instead of STR for Jump, Cost 600GP]

How much would the above two pieces of footwear cost if they were to be "fused" into one item?

Also, can anyone recommend/replace any of my chosen items? Think of this as a chance to optimize your social ninja.

Thanks in advance,

Mike Trpcic

With Weapon Finesse I use my DEX instead of my STR, that's why it becomes a dump stat.

Weapon finesse
Prerequisite: BAB +1
Benefit: with a light weapon, rapier, whip or spiked chain made for a creature of your size category, you may use your Dexterity modifier instead of your Strengh modifier on attack rolls. If you carry a shield, its armor check penalties applies to your attack rolls
Special: A fighter may select Weapon Finesse as one of his fighter bonus feats (see page 38)
Natural weapons are always considered light weapons
Attack Roll
An attack roll represents your attemp to strike your oponent on your turn in a round. When you make an attack roll, you roll a d20 and add your attack bonus (other modifiers may also apply to this roll). If your result equals or beats the targets armor class you hit and deal damage
Damage Rolls
If the attack roll equals or exceeds the target AC, the attack hits and you deal damage. Roll the appropiate damage for your weapon (see table 7-5: weapons, page 116). Damage is deducted from the target's current hit points. If the opponent's hit points drop to 0 or lower, he is in bad shape (see injury and death, page 145)

So you still need your STR for the damage roll... sorry... but talk it with your DM (if you were in my group I would let you use your DEX for damage too)

Remember that as a ninja you might need to escape so don't diss your jump nor swim skills.

Also acording with what I read weapon finesse may apply to any light weapon not just the kukri (read weapon focus entry for my reasons)

As you are basing your character on DEX you might want to get a light crossbow or a blowgun to try to do the dirty work away from danger

You might want to take Improved Unarmed Strike (just in case) and/or quick draw.

You never have enough rope.

If you take this request to the Char OP boards they will be a lot more helpfull

Well, in terms of out-of-combat/espionage, consider the Hat of Disguise (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/magicItems/wondrousItems.htm#hatofDisguise).
Hat of Disguise
This apparently normal hat allows its wearer to alter her appearance as with a disguise self spell. As part of the disguise, the hat can be changed to appear as a comb, ribbon, headband, cap, coif, hood, helmet, and so on.

Faint illusion; CL 1st; Craft Wondrous Item, disguise self; Price 1,800 gp.
It's relatively cheap, and can work great for getting a quick disguise. If you get caught and have time to run around a corner, you can quickly disguise yourself and give the guards the standard "he went that way" slip.

Plus, in terms of combat, it might be enough to give your opponents a false sense of security, giving you a surprise round in combat (aka flat-footed opponents ;)).

Fused item: 10k +1.5x300 = 10,450gp if your DM allows fusing items.

I would say don't go with the ninja. Instead make it a rogues with some similar feats ( such as wepon finesse, TWF feat, stuff like that) I would however not go with the whole dumping of the Str thing. IT'S JUST STUPID!
That being said, refer to the PHB for more info on rogues as i don't have enough time to explain how much better they are than ninjas.

How much cash are you working with?

Anyway, don't forget the wondrous items. A Bag of Tricks can be handy for flanking if you're a rogue. Elixers of Love or Truth can be very powerful in social situations (but keep in mind that the save DC is rather low.) Poisons that damage mental ability scores might be handy (but if you buy the good ones, be sure and save the receipt for your employer!) Potions are good too, particularly for rogue-types who can't use ki powers to turn invisible. Glibness can provide a huge boost to your Bluff checks as well as a better cahance of evading truth spells. An Eversmoking Bottle can serve for the classic smoke-bomb getaway, and can be used at will. If you can gain blindsight somehow (perhaps combat awareness from PHB2,) it becomes practically unfair.

Get a Blurstrike weapon from RotW (+2 Bonus). It makes it so your first attack every round is against a flat-footed opponent, so those Sudden Strike dice can be added every round.

I would also recommend getting Dodge, Mobility, and Spring Attack, so you can make that one Sudden Strike attack, then move out of Full-Attack range...accepting that you're fighting an enemy with a melee weapon.

My damage is going to come from Sudden Strike and poisons (as a Ninja), so the actual damage from my modifier means little to me.

I have two items (Rogues Vest and an enchantment on my Kukri) that give an extra 1d6 to Sudden Strike/Sneak Attack each, so that will make up for my lower STR.

I always find a way to get them flat footed, otherwise I stay back and use other means of attacking.

well if you have acces to Tome of battle there is a feat that let you use your DEX in damage roll (but you need martial stance) so you would use 2 extra feats.

remember to have a back up plan (in case you face anything that is immune to SA) and remember that at the lowest level the gosth strike ability ends when you make your first attack

If you can make one kukri vorpal and the other one to have a magical ability (if you can afford it make both kukris vorpal and with a magical ability)

also a kukri and a short sword to fight (so you can have slashing and piercing damage) with an extra bludgeoing weapon (a club would suffice) all those weapons can be used with weapon finesse (if I am not mistaken). A ranged weapon would be a good idea too because as you said your STR is not a priority so you might want to avoid melee (SS applies from 30 feet of distance)

Just remember that SS can be easily overcome and poisons have a really low save so at later levels that damage may not come into the fray

wish you luck
