| Agroth522308-08-07, 10:29 AM | As a beginning player, I usually don't take thing slike this into consideration, but after playing this game for a couple of months now, it's really becoming apparent to me that my DM is trying to keep my team's defences low so that our enemies eventually kill us. On top of that, the enemies we encounter alway seem to have epic stats but not an epic level. They're usually one maybe two levels higher than the group, but the next time we run into those enemies(typiclly a boss type character) we've gained enough exp. for a level or two and then it's like we're fighting a completely different person because we still have the same equipment, we hardly ever get the chance to buy new items, weapons, and armors, and our stats haven't gone up that much compared to the enemis our DM created. I know that these adventures are supposed to be dificult at times but it seems to me like our DM is trying to kill off out characters just so he can start a different campain.:weep: Also, is there a site where you can look up basic and magical items for classic D&D. |

How can you tell that they have "epic stats" but not "epic level"? And by that, do you mean that they seem to have all 18s or some such for their ability scores? I suggest you talk to your DM. The fact that it appears that he wants to end the campaign is telling, and by informing him of your perception, something will happen. |
| infideli08-08-07, 12:34 PM | You look up all of the basic stuff here: http://www.d20srd.org/ About your game, maybe you just have a crappy dm? There's nothing to stop a sensible person from saying: "We almost died... AGAIN! I'm not continuin gon with this mission. It's suicide to do so with equipment as weak as ours, fighting against such strong foes. I'm going back to Capitol City to buy gear and petition for government sponsorship. I will fight evil, and there must be good men willing to aid with gold even if they will not aid with their of arms." G |
| DeathByRodent08-08-07, 04:27 PM | You state that the DM is trying to kill you off... but has he done so? Or are you just having close calls? I always thought I would be failing as a DM, if many of the encounters did not scare the socks off my players and have them breathing a sigh of relief for surviving. Yet, I rarely killed any characters off. If you've been playing a couple of months and he hasn't killed anyone off, then he isn't trying to kill you (or he stinks at it), because it would have happened by now. If he has actually been killing off characters, then follow the above advice - talk to your DM, preferable not while a session is in progress. |
| Gondoras08-08-07, 05:27 PM | I've been in this situation before, too. Actually, mine was a little worse because the DM was controlling NPC's like Monks and Wizards that didn't necessarily need much equipment to mop the floor with the party. Sorry Ebonarc, gotcha beat...try lvl 14 tank w/o a shield, nonmasterwork longsword and studded leather armor. No gold, little treasure (that was usually stolen from me or simply taken by other members.) You have to talk to the gm about this. Trust me, the longer you go without adequate equipment, the more frustrating it will get. Actually, if you have the PHII, there's a page near the back that pretty much shows the bear minimum equipment that a character should have. That would be an excellent reference if the gm is not intentionally keeping equipment from you. |

You have to talk to the gm about this. Trust me, the longer you go without adequate equipment, the more frustrating it will get. Actually, if you have the PHII, there's a page near the back that pretty much shows the bear minimum equipment that a character should have. That would be an excellent reference if the gm is not intentionally keeping equipment from you. That's a good idea. I plan on using that to keep a running tab on my players. |
| SirUrza08-08-07, 06:00 PM | Sounds more like your DM is running a low magic campaign. If he is, magic items aren't going to be around much. Now if he have you fighting an orc with a magic sword and doesn't give you the sword as loot, that does suck. If you're all unhappy, well, do what everyone else does, get a new DM. :) |
