| BOK210-30-06, 10:22 AM | Greetings... 1. Do acid and sonic damage bypass an objects hardness? Will acid/sonic damage ignore adamantine objects hardness? 2. Can immediate actions, taken during an opponent's turn, interrupt that opponents action? Do they happen before or after the opponents action? Thanks...:) |
| RevIron10-30-06, 10:37 AM | 1. Sonic but not Acid IIRC. 2. After unless readied to my understanding, but may be Dex based. |
| HairyApe10-30-06, 10:44 AM | 1.) I agree with RevIron 2.) I'm not so sure. "Stay the Hand" - a spell in the PHBII prevents a creature from attacking (albeit after they've declared an attack). So in this case, it would pseudo-pre-empt their action. It's wierd. |
| JellyPooga10-30-06, 10:49 AM | 1) none of the energy types ignor hardness. Sonic and Acid do full damage, Fire and Electricity do half damage and Cold do third damage. All of which are modified by hardness. |

All of which are modified by hardness. IIRC, this is accurate; however, I believe that the DM Guide states that a DM may rule that certain attacks bypass the hardness of certain objects. An example would be attacking a curtain with a fire attack. In that respect, I think it is somewhat of a judgement call. |
| ashcat_lt10-30-06, 12:04 PM | 2) you can take an immediate action any time you want. Even when it's not your turn. It can be used to interrupt another characters action without being specifically readied ahead of time. That's actually the point of a lot of immediate actions. The rules don't state, but I would suggest that in a case where it matters, you should treat it the same way as an AoO or readied action where the immediate action takes place before the action that triggered it. |

If so, I'm going to make a character who wraps a curtain around himself each day. |
| BOK211-01-06, 09:59 AM | Got confused with Question 1 there and just needed some clarification on the second, you guys really helped... Another question. Do creatures with spell like abilities have to make concentration checks to be able to use them while being grappled? Thanks again...:) |
| _plucky11-01-06, 06:13 PM | 1) none of the energy types ignor hardness. Sonic and Acid do full damage, Fire and Electricity do half damage and Cold do third damage. All of which are modified by hardness. JellyPooga was closest so far :) Acid/Sonic = Full Damage Electricity/Fire = 1/2 damage Cold = 1/4 damage Divide first, then subtract hardness. (No, I didn't know before hand, I just looked it up, PHB pg. 165) Another question. Do creatures with spell like abilities have to make concentration checks to be able to use them while being grappled? Grappled: A creature can use its spell-like abilities if grappled. Doing so requires a Concentration check (DC 20 + the duplicated spell's level). The above goes for Pinned creatures as well. Even when pinned, they can use their (Sp)s, but again need to make a Concentration check. -plucky (who has no clue about the immediate action, since he can't find any info about it, so he would suspect it doesn't interrupt another action unless it was readied). |
| Articman11-01-06, 07:18 PM | Spell like abilities I believe so but not Super Natural. . Make sure you look at what it is. |
