| MrFahrenheit09-09-04, 07:00 PM | Hi. Let me explain to you a problem I'm having. I am an "inner knowledge" PC in a game run near my home. By that I mean that when the DM and myself were planning the game but knew I would be back in college soon (which I am now), we decided that instead of me being a co DM for our party of five, I instead play a sixth PC who knows a bit more about the campaign than the other PCs. It is to start innocent enough, with me making my character along with the rest of the PCs (EDIT: The other Players don't know I'm an inner knowledge PC, just that I did help in the beginning of the formulation of the story before I personally left for college) but eventually here's what's going to happen: 1) I am to create an elf rogue. 2) In this campaign, two nations of elves are warring, and both nationalities trust neither the opposing nation nor any other races. 3) THEREFORE, though I am supposed to have good attentions for my nation in the war, I have no problem sneaking through the camp at night and stealing provisions from fellow PCs which would be necessary for the squads of spies from my nation passing through the territory the campaign begins at (a country just south of the two warring elven nations). 4) So basically, should I just make a CG character and keep him as such - though a bit misguided - until eventually peace is is made and he has a revelation that he shouldn't be doing the stealing? 5) OR should I create him as CN or even NE until the peace is achieved/he has that revelation or is caught? |

From what I gather of your plan (you steal from your party) neutral evil would be the right alignment. NE?, that is completely over the top. The alignment you choose should be entirely dependent on what tactics your PC feels are acceptable to use on the party members. If you are happy to deceive and trick them to protect your people, to steal provisions where necessary etc but stop short of actions that actually harm the other PC's then a Good alignment is perfectly acceptable. If your PC would be willing to put the PC's into harms way if it is necessary for the defense of your nation, but not otherwise, then a Neutral alignment would be ok. If you would do these things for fun or pleasure then Evil is justified. Good people can lie, cheat and steal as long as you are not debasing or destroying the innocent, especially of it helps other good people. Losing a dozen days rations will not harm the party as long as its not going to end up with them starving to death. In fact if you play it right the party will end up carrying an excess of rations to cover unexpected wastage and loss so your activities will result in nothing more than a few minor expenses now and then. |

Are they innocent bystanders? Why can't you tell them who you are? These are important to determine whether what you are doing is evil. If you cannot tell us then I would go with neutral probably lawful or true because you are working for your government and Chaotic Neutral, I think would never help support a government. |
