| Coneyman8806-02-07, 07:42 PM | I need to 'guest-star' in a friend's campaign as a knight in a local tournament competing against the characters. He asked me to get a (NPC-ish) character ready for his game ASAP, but I am getting hung up on some more "flavorful" parts of his character. I can roleplay his aggressive attitude and nemisis feelings towards the group just fine, but I need help with the actual abilities/feat/skills ect. part. I have made him a Knight (obviously) seeing as how that seemed to fit the closest to any 'Jousting Knight' description I have ever heard. I need some skills and feats and suggestions on equipment that would add a whole lot of flavor/flare/taste to a Jousting Knight. If you have any ideas let me know. If you had any good ideas for this character there is one other post up called "Detective" for which you may also be able to contribute you ideas. Thanks to all. |

It seems to me that most of the Knight's abilities are focused on defense of himself and those around him. With the Fighter, you can really focus on jousting combat with the larger selection of feats. Here are some that I suggest (all from the PHB), pick and choose according to your level: Animal Affinity (for the +2 to Ride checks) Combat Expertise Improved Disarm Dodge Improved Critical (lance) Improved Initiative Mounted Combat (obviously) Ride By Attack Spirited Charge Trample Persuasive Power Attack Improved Shield Bash Skill Focus (Ride) Toughness Weapon Focus (lance) Weapon Specialization (lance) Greater Weapon Focus (lance) Greater Weapon Specialization (lance) (these last three alone are the reason to take Fighter over Knight). These feat choices reflect an individual who has dedicated himself to tournament fighting. He probably would be effective in mass combat as a cavalier, but is less effective as a foot soldier. |

The Jousting Knight is actually used for a local tournament. I love the advice you gave for this but it seems more like a war focused. I need one that can also get the crowd on his side and get some people pumped up but still kick ass in the joust. |

That's what Perform (Weapon Drill) is for. :) Take a look in Complete Warrior, it has rules for Jousting tourneys and such. Maybe it'll have some good ideas for you. |
