So, we are to build a world, eh?

Two ways of doing this might include:
1. A thread for each major locale / country / area / and so on.
2. A giant stew pot of connectable, do-it-yourself gambits.

Personally, I prefer the a mix, heavy on the first. I think it might also be good if many of the first few places were "Isolated". An island kingdom, a self-sufficient underground city, that kind of thing.

Then DMs could snatch up one or more of these bits and slot them straight in to their games as desired.

But I'm just talking here. Anyone else have any brilliant thoughts on how we should use this space? I'm looking forward to seeing the city thread again, for one... I checked up on it everyso often, and liked the idea of it.

I'm easy. :D I suppose in principle I'd prefer the first, but the second type certainly has its place.

As for isolated, I agree. If we don't have a lot of small continents on this planet, no one will ever agree on anything!

Another set of options, then, everyone. What do you think:

1) Get a big 'ole map, and have folks 'stake claims'? Then, each is ultimately in charge of their area, but can be expected to collaborate with everyone else on larger issues, and to help everyone else with new ideas; especially those who "border" each other.

OR

2) Get the map, number the territories, and start a thread for each one. Anyone can add anything, but can't contradict work that comes before (once precedent is set for a territory, it's set unless a serious majority of that thread's contributors state disapproval).

OR

3) Do you have some other method in mind?

The problem is that we're working on serious basic elements of the world still. If we all just pick a point and say what goes there we won't have much of a continuous flavour to the world and we're likely to end up with another generic fantasy creation.

Of all the things we've worked on so far, the basic principles and the races of the world are what have been most necessary and popular.

Going from a map we're still going to end up with picking the details before we know what details need to be in there. Unless I'm missing something?

So far we haven't done a lot of work on the locations, personaly I think they're something that we can fill in at a later date when they are needed for storys/races/settings etc. But that's just how I'm seeing it :) I may be a minority.

If folks want to keep using the stuff developed before, could someone port it over to here? Or even provide a link?

It sounds like folks do, but none of those things are here, yet. And it sounds like they were pretty good... so, where are they?

There's a link to the old thread at the top of the board and Bandido has coppied over the text on the race we've been working on. The idea of starting from scratch just because we've got new software sends shivers down my spine :/ but there's no way or reason we'll port over everything from the old boards, bickering included ;) it's all there to be read and used for six months :)
