| Brknlf04-12-04, 01:15 PM | Nice start, I like the city already. Maybe, the mountain range could go to the edge of the Virix Desert. The mountains seem impassible from the desert side and from the mountain side, well no one wants to wander into the large open desert with no real reason too. That said, I do like the city as is, it leaves a lot of possibility open on all ends. Aside from talking about the races and their existence together, we have many details that can be added to a city (locations, shops, Inhabitants (NPCs), governments, law enforement, and whatever else we can come up with). That said, here's some development stuff for Nilad to consider. In the mountain valley where it is nestled, there is a river that serves as the water source. Perhaps the city itself is on one side while the other side is used for agricultural purposes? The river is fast flowing and can be dangerous as it flows through the mountains. Also, maybe there is a sort of trade language developed between the goblins, ogres, humans and other inhabitants. Sort of like a pidgin language that is used somewhat commonly so that all can communicate within the city. Each race might have a district that is distincly their own races, but the rest of the city is a good mix of the races? There is a group of goblins in this city, part of the criminal underworld so to speak, that runs illegal gambling operations of some sort. |
| Galen04-12-04, 08:22 PM | One great advantage of starting small is that it is a lot easier to create something big if you already have small parts lying around. All you have to do is fill up the gaps. Now, back to the Nilad city discussion(Nilad as in where we get the name Manila? ;););) ) I like the concept of Nilad and based on what information is available I don't think it should be near a desert. A lot of beings manage to find it meaning it is located on a strategic geographical location accessible to several races. Another point to consider is that orcs, goblins, humans and elves dwells there should implicate that the city has temperate climate ergo the place should be either placed higher north/south where there is 4 seasons. As for the importance of the city, commerce seems to be the primary source of income since it looks like the city is a the center hub of a trade route but I think we should add more. How about we make the mountain range abundant in specific kind of ore(gold is out of the question, too cliche). Chromium(rust proof), Aluminium(light armor) and/or Mithril(anti-magic) would be nice. |

| Galen04-14-04, 08:14 PM | Originally posted by Mak ...Although I would like a hidden ancient library underneath the city, for future story purposes... :D The city is inside a ring of mountains- perhaps the river could flow right in the middle of it. The social structure goes like this: Elves- rich Half-breeds- not so rich Humans- not-not so rich Ogres and Goblins- poor The goblin crime ring sounds nice- the ogres would make good goons. :D ??? I thought the elves got there with Nilad already inhabited by the other races? If that is so then the other 3 races should have more control of the city and the elves trying to reclaim power over it. I'd say the humans are the filthy rich ones while the orcs are the mercenaries and goblins are scavengers and artisans. Elves would definitely the well to do but not-so-rich ones. |
| the_one_true_shea05-26-06, 07:25 PM | How about the "Lost City of Nilad" ? A once majestic elven city near the Kaiser Desert, decimated long before the breaking - this city is now the haven of monsters and (orcs/goblins/trolls - if we decide to have them). AH! What about mutant elves? Iradro infected mutant elves!? |
| locksley9206-09-06, 07:00 PM | Umm, just got to the thread... What do the '...'s mean and where is all the writing. Am I missing something? Is this a trick to get rookies? If so, I was fooloed. |
| Book506-10-06, 11:13 AM | An excersise in double think and double entendre, and apparently a trip wire too! The ... is there for him to fill in. You see this boards is all about mixing, and remixing! This thread in particular? Well, lets just say that its a tad bit pretentious. Slightly inflamitory (only slightly), and mostly intended for OP to maybe read. Return ... as many have wandered far from the WCP. You will find - Garm, not seen hide nor hair. Galen, swept by with words of merfolk and elder magics. Mostly though my good locksley ... we're all noobs here. This is a mad lib world, so to speak. Fictional Fancy Archeology! |
| Rny206-10-06, 11:45 AM | AH! What about mutant elves? Iradro infected mutant elves!? There's one way to explain the dominance of the elves, even if they came in later. If they were tainted by the Iradro, maybe they were, and maybe still are, contracting a persistent form of 'Iradrothropy' that causes cold-blooded intelligence. Where elves are normally the epitomy of being in tune with nature, iradrothropy causes these elves to become 'superhumans,' breeding rampantly and heartlessly advancing on the turf of the previous inhabitants of Nilad. |
| Book506-10-06, 02:00 PM | The "mutants" that appeare in magic have always unnerved me. What? Mutants? When did.. wher.. huh!?! Mutants?! However, the rizwell iradro influction is plenty excuse to have mutant - and the city could have been within the riz/ira's initial spread. "Lost" to the sundering - but now a sort of holy city for the mutants. |
| Mak06-10-06, 11:03 PM | Umm, just got to the thread... What do the '...'s mean and where is all the writing. Am I missing something? Is this a trick to get rookies? If so, I was fooloed. Two years ago, when people challenged the continuity I attempted to impose, I removed all my material and dared them to do better. |
| the_one_true_shea06-15-06, 12:04 PM | Yes yes Mak, but the question is... would you like to put it back? |
| Mak06-16-06, 02:07 AM | It involved a real, non-interpretative creation myth, so it would step on everyone's toes. Kill your evil mup and I might consider it. :P |
| the_one_true_shea06-16-06, 02:23 PM | Put that information back up for consideration and debate and I will put my second cap away (I have more, but 3 and 4 are just PM buckets, me likes to keepsy things). Well.. in that I will use it for its intended purpose, and stop using it to play with you. I mean: here. I will stop using my mup here. It has a seriously fun, non-evil, and unrelated purpose. Hehe, I have been a tad lazy these last few weeks thinking that the overhaul would rollback my overusage .. havent I? Heh. Noticed you didn't pipe up till "hell week" hehe - literally amazing what people will say when they feel like they will not be held accountable. I mean look at that inane junk thread of mine! Ya'know... It really literally amazes me how antagonistic I can manage to be.. when I think someone needs a little honest antagonizing ;) must be all them philosophy classes. :D "Thou Pesteranious Gnat Shea!" |

If you spent half as much time actually writing creative material for the WCP as you do harping on other people for not creating properly, then you would be the largest contributor to the creative process of this board. Instead you are simply the largest windbag, only Mak has come off as annoying as you in my world creation project board review. Note: in case Mak has anyone confused - the correct elemental associations are: Fire - Water - Wind - Earth - Shadow/Light/Soul Hey Rny2! Look't Mak make a heel of himself yet again! Hehe, I like Mak, I wish he would come back. :nonono: Just not enough optimism in that boy. Anyway - Flecto never mind Mak - he's our naysayer! ;):ahem:;) Everybody needs naysayers. They point out everythig you do wrong! ....and a little bit more for good measure  Thats why you get the dunce cap Mak, you are hostile without being observant or thurough. Also, your the only person who has ever redacted your posts, neh? If your gonna be hostile.. at least aim carefully. :tiphat: And now, Noticed you didn't pipe up till "hell week" hehe - literally amazing what people will say when they feel like they will not be held accountable. I mean look at that inane junk thread of mine! I posted because of a question you created by necroing my thread. What did I ever do to you? |
| the_one_true_shea06-17-06, 07:55 PM | just doing my thing mak Look, you are meaner than anyone else I have read herin. You (like many) seem to enjoy a little antagonizm. I mean, you bother to respond, but refuse to comply. You more than anything appeare to want to know why? Why bother with the project you say, often and in many ways. You certainly show interest, and yet some certain unwillingness to participate. I mean what I say when I type "you can't hurt my toes" and I won't let you bother others. Simply by overload I "lead" this board, but it is by concerned observence of the basic principle of groups "we is spelled with a you and a me." or something like that ;) I bother you because most of what you say is interesting. Allot of what you say is kinda mean. Little more of the first, a little less of the second. I think you'll be an aight guy. The kinda person it takes to be fun to tinker on a world with. Like undernetter, or Rny, Dindrin. Were just gnoming it here yo. Taking 'er as she blows. Boss off on buisness, and some random goofus takes over the shop! Its not like I am married to the kaiser, or the dragons of color principle, or really anything. I have my prefrences, but everyone's ideas hold equal weight. A weight measured by contribution I would imagine. I would think. Participation, if you will. Like the riz/ira thing, started one way - and didnt really conflict with anything - worked it in. We played with it. gave it a twin. Twisted the origin. If you think your proposal for a history (we don't have anything set in stone right now... I'm not even the moderator...) is gonna step on toes - I suggest you just put it up there and be all like "use it if you want it or not but I am done here" otherwise. Keep on keeping it up Mak. Tell me how you really feel, or maybe we better just be fre'inds. You call me arrogant, I call you a bastard, and we get along. "Halfway Gnomishly, eh?" Are. you. kidding me! nothing on WCP dies! I thought about it, and thought about it; and "yeah on the general boards or something necromancy applies" but this place is a construct realm. And:LOL: NO! I performed NO necromancy! I have simply identified a faulty connection in the wcp system and have attempted to rectify the short with the manufacturer. No violation and no atonment required. I will make something of this "Nilad" one way or another. I swear, as I will with everything down to the Kavu Overlards. Barring "unwitting contributions" of course. Right man principles and what not. MaAaAaK! Fleck Necromancy! Psh! Patron Ownership! Dog! |
| Mak06-18-06, 09:32 AM | Look, you are meaner than anyone else I have read herin. You (like many) seem to enjoy a little antagonizm. I mean, you bother to respond, but refuse to comply. Again, what did I ever do to you? Aside from one or two critical comments over a span of years I haven't "attacked" the project in any way since I first left. I believe I reserve the right to possess my own bitter opinions, especially after the way it ended for me. I have made no attempt to disseminate these views or similarly harm the forum, either. I'm not here. That was why I PMed you months ago explaining the last collapse instead of replying to your post. Flecto and these dramatics are exceptions- they drew me here. Can you see me participating in any other fashion? If you think I might be able to help the project subtly trolling me until I respond is not the way to do it. |
| the_one_true_shea06-18-06, 06:44 PM | If you think I might be able to help the project subtly trolling me until I respond is not the way to do it. Well, you didn't seem interested in PMing back and forth... and.. um... I couldn't think of anything else! :D Sue me! I am a bit of a troll. Just doing what comes naturally. What would you suggest? OR What can I do for you? So to speak... "welcome back?" I wouldn't let anyone yell at you either, no more worries about "wanderers" I handle that (less you want to point people to things) and well.. its a new project these days. You did contribute allot. I think you in particular would be helpful with my whole summarize dealio, and... you were here when I got here. You - making a stink - stood out probably the most. Next to Leaves and Iyalla and Brklf (& Bandido) ya'll were the real project workers. Others as slipped in and out as well, but those names are the first I think of (I have read through everything) and I'll admit I barely read the underdark thread.. but anyhow. :0 What do you say Mak? Swing by every once in a awhile (as you seem to already do..) and say something other than "this is stupid?" turn those bitter memories sweet and sour? Stop yelling at Flecto (assuming he minds!) and tell me this part of the story!! ...thats what you did to me Mak. You left a whole in the timeline!!!! I bet you.. well you name the stakes. Wanna wager? |
| Mak06-19-06, 08:27 AM | "Yelling at Flecto"? Aw, what the hell. Here, take it, mutilate it, I don't even care anymore. * * * * * The city of Nilad is a little of an allegory of my home town of Manila. I created it as a compromise with Galen, Brknlf and others who wanted to "start small". In reality this justified returning to the same old smorgasbord creation method, and was favored only because they wanted to enjoy the world at the same time they were creating it. There's nothing wrong with that, of course, but I feel one has to sacrifice one's own fun when it endangers the quality of the creation, which in this case I felt it did... ...er, the city of Nilad is an ancient elven metropolis, tucked away safely in the mountains and abandoned during the events of my Starlight Elves myth. It was eventually rediscovered by (grumblerevisiongrumble) Errant-elf explorers, and recolonized. It is now home to a mix of races, composed predominantly of- in social class order- elves, humans, dwarves, ogres and goblins. Halfbreeds are also common. Nilad is unfortunately corrupt, but it is still a safe haven for those seeking to escape the more chaotic world outside, and is kept alive by a river that flows from the mountain peaks. Underneath the city lies an ancient elvish library, but sadly, no one knows how to read its contents anymore. * * * * * I want you to be very sure before you ask for my help with organizing the project... I'm sure you've seen the results... |
| Undernetter06-19-06, 02:14 PM | I like that thing about the lost library, not too cliche. people don't do lost library stuff much anymore. Hey! What if some wealthy elven family had sent a party to the Twilight Desert to recruit some Planeshifters to try to decipher the ancient text, what with them being extraplaner creatures and all. Just a thought. :D :D :D |
| the_one_true_shea06-21-06, 04:13 PM | Excelent! I get an image of a "classical D&D city the kind of place you start stories.. ya know - where everythinview of history. g is familiar. Elves, dwarves, orcs, and etc. Classical. The city is omewhere on one of the continants and while not a center of civilization - it is a place where advanced society has persisted for long enough to give the inhabitants a slightly more accurate view of the sweep of history. With the libarary - certain people would be able to read it. There are spells for these kinda things.. but your average adventurer no. Only the mighty and the bold have managed to decipher even fragments of the library - hehe - seeing as only advnturers would seek out the information and they would not necisarrily be interested in translating the whole library. Question: Should this be the most ancient of elven cities? Dating from the era of merfolk dominance? |
