| TolarianFlare06-14-05, 04:40 PM | In Magic the types and Classes are sort of Jumbled together since they can combine sporadically in the card flavor The Mistform Ultimus is a Legendary Illusion that contains all of the types Here (http://www.wizards.com/leaving.asp?url=http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=mtgcom/arcana/595&origin=) is a list of the current types. :S which I think I will seperate into a list Both Magic and D&D probably share some of these types and I would like for a D&D list to be made so that a comparision can be made. Abomination Aboroth Advisor Aladdin Albatross Alchemist Ali-Baba Ali-from-Cairo Alligator Ambush-Party Ancestor Angel Ant Antelope Ape Archaeologist Archer Artificer Asp Assassin Assembly-Worker Atog Aurochs Avatar Avenger Avizoa Badger Ball-Lightning Bandit Banshee Barbarian Barishi Basilisk Bat Bear Beast Bee Beeble Behemoth Being Berserker Bird Blinkmoth Boar Bodyguard Bringer Brood Brother Brownie Brushwagg Bull Bureaucrat Butterfly Camarid Camel Caravan Caribou Carnivore Carriage Carrier Cat Cavalry Cave-People Centaur Cephalid Cheetah Chicken Chimera Citizen Clamfolk Cleric Clone Cobra Cockatrice Constable Cow Crab Crocodile Crusader Dandan Demon Dervish Deserter Devil Devouring-Deep Dinosaur Djinn Dog Doppelganger Dragon Dragonfly Drake Drill-Sergeant Drone Druid Dryad Dwarf Eater Eel Effigy Efreet Egg Elder Elemental Elephant Elf El-Hajjaj Enchantress Entity Erne Essence Exorcist Faerie Fallen Farmer Ferret Fiend Fish Flagbearer Flying-Men Force Fox Frog Frostbeast Fungus Fungusaur Gaea's-Avenger Gaea's-Liege Gargoyle Gatekeeper General Ghost Ghoul Giant Gnome Goat Goblin Golem Gorgon Graveborn Gremlin Griffin Guardian Gus Gypsy Hag Harlequin Hell's-Caretaker Heretic Hero Hipparion Hippo Homarid Hornet Horror Horse Horseman Hound Human Hunter Hydra Hyena Illusion Imp Incarnation Infernal-Denizen Inquisitor Insect Island-Fish Jackal Jellyfish Kavu Keeper Kelp King Kithkin Knight Kobold Kraken Lady-of-Proper-Etiquette Leech Legend Legionnaire Lemure Leper Leviathan Lhurgoyf Lichenthrope Licid Lion Lizard Lord Lurker Lycanthrope Mage Maggot Maiden Mammoth Manticore Mantis Marid Martyr Master Medusa Meerkat Mercenary Merchant Merfolk Mindsucker Minion Minor Minotaur Miracle-Worker Mist Mistfolk Mob Mold-Demon Monger Mongoose Monkey Monster Mosquito Mummy Murk-Dwellers Mutant Myr Mystic Nameless-Race Narwhal Necrosavant Nekrataal Niall-Silvain Nightmare Nightstalker Noble Nomad Octopus Ogre Ooze Orb Orc Orgg Ouphe Ox Oyster Paladin Peacekeeper Pegasus Pentavite People-of-the-Woods Pest Phantasm Phelddagrif Phoenix Pig Pikemen Pirate Pixie-Queen Plant Poison-Snake Poltergeist Pony Preacher Priest Prism Pyknite Rabbit Raider Ranger Rat Rebel Reflection Rhino Robber Roc Rock-Sled Rogue Rukh Sage Salamander Sand Saproling Satyr Scavenger Scorpion Scout Serf Serpent Shade Shaman Shapeshifter Shark Sheep Ship Shyft Sindbad Singing-Tree Sister Skeleton Slith Sliver Slug Smith Snake Soldier Sorceress Spawn Speaker Specter Spellshaper Sphinx Spider Spike Spirit Sponge Sprite Spuzzem Spy Squire Squirrel Stangg-Twin Starfish Stone Strider Survivor Swarm Tactician Tarpan Taskmaster Tetravite Thief The-Biggest-Baddest-Nastiest-Scariest-Creature-You'll-Ever-See Thopter Thrull Thundermare Tiger Titan Toad Tombspawn Tortoise Townsfolk Tracker Treefolk Troll Turtle Twin Uncle-Istvan Undead Unicorn Vampire Vedalken Viashino Villain Viper Volver Vulture Walking-Dead Wall War-Rider Warrior Warthog Wasp Wave Whale Whippoorwill Wight Wiitigo Wildebeest Will-o'-the-Wisp Wirefly Witch Wizard Wolf Wolverine Wolverine-Pack Wolves-of-the-Hunt Wombat Wood Worm Wraith Wretched Wurm Yeti Zombie Unglued #70 , #180 #332 As strange as it is (some of the remaining names) you can use this Gatherer (http://gatherer.wizards.com/default.asp) to check the others that I might have missed ... |
| the_one_true_shea06-14-05, 07:04 PM | You are so fast! Not what I was expecting.. cant believe I forgot about the "biggest-scariest-lalala" type monster. OH man, unglued and unhinged are funny but lets rip those out of our telescoped list. From SRD found at ( www.wizards.com/d20 ) there are these basic types - Abberattion Animal Construct Dragon Elemental Fey Giant Huminoid Magical Beast Monstrous Humanoid Ooze Outsider Plant Undead Vermin The way that D&D does it - those are our "top level" types. After these there are sets of subtypes, in no particular order they are: Chaotic Extraplaner Evil Good Lawful Fire Aquatic/Water (used alternativly) Demon Angel Devil Archon Incorporeal Mindless Shapechanger Air Native Augmented Goblinoid Celestial Earth Cold Dwarf Elf Human Halfing Gnome Gnoll Reptilian Orc Swarm thats not accounting for other settings than oerth or even the planescape stuff like tanar'ri. A Hell hound's type block is Outsider (Evil, Extraplaner, Fire, Lawful), and if a transmutation spell gets cast on it that type becomes "Outside (Augmented, Evil, Fire, Lawful). DRAT! Internet connectivity... revoked ... see ya next week. Anyone got some special type lists from other PI - like kender or realms things? |
| Adept_Nathan06-15-05, 01:54 AM | Here is a complete, alphabetical list of all the D&D creature types. Now all that is needed is for each of the 384 (minus the unglued) creatures from M:tG in TolarianFlare's post to be matched up with one or more of these, for example, 1. A. ;) Aberration (Air) (Angel) Animal (Aquatic) (Archon) (Augmented) (Chaotic) (Cold) Construct Dragon (Earth) Elemental (Evil) (Extraplanar) Fey (Fire) Giant (Goblinoid) Humanoid (Incorporeal) (Lawful) Magical Beast Monstrous Humanoid (Native) Ooze Outsider Plant (Reptilian) (Shapechanger) (Swarm) Undead Vermin (Water) A |

I should be able to have an reordered ver (edit thisaone) by tommarow, then synergistics with D&D.. Ummm things that are marked as class/job are not so much types as they are classes. Allot more specifics than in D&D types - we probably dont need the most of them, but there may be one or two to discuss. Or categories correctons. And the big deal - Any setting specific ones (how bout Myr? ) are gonna be outsiders. Kavu has been discussed as a native inhabitant but any culture or place that has an origin already is not from the unnamed world... unless their origins are rewritten - for example the elves. |

| TolarianFlare06-25-05, 10:04 PM | For alot of the "idk" you can toss them into the gatherer mentioned above to get pictures. TOTS (the_one_true_shea ): Alot of the "classes" that you might consider D&D animals also cross into creatures and races as you will see on alot of magic cards. Only recently will you see things like "Moonfolk Wizard" or "Rat Shaman" Alot of the basal or simple animal types have advanced forms such as the Orochi are snakes and so is the River boa Instead of removing types from the list, a heirachy might be better , if I can find some flow chart software I can attempt to create one. Capfalcon: Alot of the types that can be eliminated from the list are due to types of "cows" being called by their type rather than simply cows , and then have the subtype of their type. Example Aurochs appear to be a type of oxen as shown on the card Aurochs the type is applied due to the herd nature of the creature, in a herd it can "Flatten a village" and a lone one can "feed it [village]". The creature type is used to give it the bonus in their presence much like a sliver but only when attacking (aggressively fighting.) |
| the_one_true_shea07-06-05, 01:26 PM | since this information may be good to take into consideration: _Base Classes_ Barbarian Bard Cleric Druid Fighter Paladin Ranger Sorcerer And thats it for the SRD, I'll put up more OGC classes to use as refrence on another post, meanwhile ... M:tG isnt the only set with a rabbit's hole of a list.. heres the list of the "example" prestige classes in the srd, the full list.. well you could take Auroch HD as "prestige class" if you want to, then theres paragon, and other related concepts. _Prestige Classes_ Arcane Archer Arcane Trickster Archmage Assasin Blackguard Dragon Disciple Duelist Dwarven Defender (10lvl) Eldritch Knight (10lvl) Hierophant (5lvl) Horizon Walker (10Lvl) Lore Master (10Lvl) Mystic Theurge (10lvl) Shadowdancer (10lvl) Thuamaturgist (5lvl) OY [] go around all the tags. sblock /sblock so this looks like this this looks |
| TolarianFlare07-06-05, 05:42 PM | Ok since the base classes for D&D also appear in M:tg as creature types. I am thinking we could fuse the two systems while seperating classes into base classes ( jobs) Race (creature type) Prestige classes (if applicable) Other So for example Konda, Lord of Eiganjo base classes: Samurai ( a type of "knight" but not quite) Race: Human Prestige classes: Lord ( there are lords in Magic as a 'special' class that often does not share the base class type or race of their subjects in M:tg even though flavorwise they still are ) Other: Immortal due to stealing the Kami ( Spirt-god) for divinity. See That which was Taken for mechanics explanaition Now in terms of D&D ... he would be an Epic level NPC since he is immortal , combat skill triggers an increase in HP and Physically attributes of nearly two and two thirds increase of the original when in melee combat. I think he could be looked at as a pseudo-god. :P Well I am not going to do this for every creature but you get the idea. Once the base classes are seperated out , the other types can be grouped into races , Prestige classes or Other (which can be be seperated more). Another thing... Attack/Defense (M:tg , close to (Strength)/ (Vitality or HP or some formulatic combination) in D&D ) 1/1 = On par with a physically fit soldier bodywise 2/2 = On par with a bear 3/3 = On par with an elephant 4/4 = Something that eats elephants 5/5 = Something that would hunt and eat 4/4s 6/6 = classic M:tg Wurm or sea Serpent, on par with that 7/7 = Huge sea serpent or Dragon , on par with that 8/8 = Colossus type creature , or on par with that 9/9 = Krakens and young Leviathans... Using that ... I think you get an idea of the HP and such of each creature of character. D&D, the class and experience determine the growth of such attributes. So I think some of the Classes start at 0/1 , some at 1/1 some at 1/2 and other at 2/1 |
| the_one_true_shea07-11-05, 06:49 PM | Idestructable Tokens! I want some, ok I think the lord concept is odd, and difficult to quantify. Allot of the types here are absolutly not beeded - phryxian? myr? kavu? :) well, maybe kavu AND, were gonna be adding our own of course. Probably more so really. Who needs Dandan(??) when you have Ithawu! check The Dominaria D20 project (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=431122) for some others takes on the direct conversion process but lets take this Konda fellow. "bushido 5" thats rough. Thats when defening right? Whew.. he more than doubles in power in his chosen combat medium, but only a 3/3, and vigiliance. Basically were looking at a pretty high level warrior - and divine rank to boot. I dont think that bushido would really be considered a "mid-combat" combat increase in BAB/HP more a "class-feature" that give bonuses vs. hostile opponents or something more like the ranger's favored enemy. Since Kamigawa aint our plane, OUR unamed world we could do somting like: Offensive (+x/x) add X when attacking and Defensive (+x/x) add X when blocking Neither of which translate very well into D&D terms. The problem is that actions are not as deliniated, you can attack and defend all in one round. The closest thing to the "when attacking" concept are : Vs. Evil/Good/Law/Chaos Rage ... im sure there are more, but my point is those things are not going to translate pure. They represent a number of lovely functions like sneak attack and weapon specialization.. and including an enhanced defensive function. HP -> Toughness Not gonna work every time, but it gets you into the right ballpark. Magic Cards are actually allot more tactical than d20 thingies. The d20 rules are very personal, with allot of attention to little details. Magic cards are abstracted to allow for simpler (overview style) combat. A single Tap action on a magic card could rationalize into a free action all the way to an action that takes 10 mintes to complete. The timing relationship between the magic and d20 rule sets are not seamless either... :D |
| TolarianFlare07-12-05, 01:32 AM | Triggered combat abilities like Rampage and Bushido or probably feats or something acquired or learned. How to describe both... Ok Rampage is very simple, imagine a beserker or maniac fighting in a one-on-one but in this kind of fight he is pretty basic to his class then when confronted with more than one opponent in his attack ( an attack in this case would be say charging at a unit or person in battle ) he becomes "different" like battle lust filled, the battle lust gives him a temporary boost in HP and attack. Bushido is a bit like that but it simply triggers in combat no matter how many opponents. It could be considered a technique or such. But looking at the M:tg comparison to d20 its kinda funny Imagine 2 epic characters commanding squads on a battlefield and summoning them as the battle continues , each turn is say... a day, week or month in the war or conflict. I think that should give wounds enough time to heal. The impersonal aspect of M:tg is the fact some of the cards or not one person but many. Oh before I get sidetracked The Lord class is interesting. A character from that class would loose some "levels" when they add that to their classes and HP/MP and other stats would become very stunted in terms of growth. The Bonuses? Huge... you can use "subjects" Others from your class to do devastating things and/or give them boosts Some examples ( again ) are here Gravespawn Sovereign and Zombie Master and Lord of the Undead Lord of Atlantis and Supreme Inquisitor Ancestor’s Prophet and Catapult Master (White didn't have much lords like that they were usually enchantments (actions like Crusade)) Voice of the Woods and Eladamri, Lord of Leaves and Elvish Champion Goblin King and Skirk Fire Marshal The odd Lord Caller of the Hunt which hunts its subjects after choosing one kind ...dang hunter lords.. :weep: a player killer class |
| Jeweler08-31-05, 03:55 PM | I think i know how to do Bushido(i love that name)! Bushido(Fighter feat) You attack faster and are more accurate when you fight defensively. Prereq: Base attack +3(maybe)(i thought there was a feat that improved the fight defensively ability) Benefit: When defensively fighting the negative to attack is dropped to -2 instead of four. Four every additional time you take this feat the negative is reduced an additional one point, and the dodge bous is increased by one. Special:This feat can be taken by fighter's as one of there bonus feats. So how do you all like it, any suggestions for extra prereqs if required, wat about the attack bonus? |
| the_one_true_shea06-13-06, 02:08 PM | Oh, hey Jeweler! I didn't notice you posted that! Lemme clean it up for you, BUSHIDO? [General] Prerequisite: BAB +5, Combat Expertise, Dodge. Benifit: You may fight defensivly with a -2 to attack and a +4 to AC. Normal: Once you have Combat Expertise you may no longer use the defensive fighting action. Special: You may take this feat a second time and change your defensive fighting modifiers to -1 / +6. actually... thats a neat feat.. but I am not certain that it is "bushido" doesnt bushido raise your attack power when you are attacked? what about... BUSHIDO [General] Prerequisite: .... Benifit: When you are attacked you gain an attack of opportunity on the opponent that attacked you. You gain a +4 bonus to hit on this attack. Note: You must be withing melee range or have a readied ranged weapon to take advantage of the attack of opportunity provided by this feat. |
