| gaea's_leige03-28-04, 09:08 PM | There is a beach on the eastern side of the continent where the desert meets the ocean. Its a secluded beach side that spreads for miles. Its an uninhabitable place except for in the water. The sand is made up from sharp particles of metal like glass. In the water there are creatures that resemble fish, but infact are shape-shifting creatures. It is said that the "Dunno a Name yet" is capable of luring prey into the water by mimick something that the prey wants. It is said that the "Dunno" enjoys humans mostly, but will settle for most anything else. the "Dunno" resembles a fish but is a bit bigger and is more monstorous. The "Dunno" has been nown to be able to bask on the beach which means that its skin is very rough to be able to not be punctured. In the night it spends its day at the btom of the ocean but in the day it comes up to feed and bask. thats all i got for now i need help with the rest of the information and other things about it. |
| Galen03-28-04, 09:22 PM | 2 questions to get the ball rolling: 1) When you say shapshifter are you talking about a fantasy kind of shapeshifter or something more on the nature kind of shapeshifting? 2)Are we discussing about something sentient or completely animal? |
| gaea's_leige03-29-04, 03:24 PM | im going fro more animalistic and more nature kind..i hope unless anyone else thinks they should be other |
| Galen03-29-04, 07:25 PM | If you like, let's try to make the creature's shapeshifting ability more natural instead of something out of fantasy. My suggestion would be a hybrid of the ff creatures: Octopus - Ability change shape, color and texture Puffer fish - Ability to change size Scorpion fish - Ability to mimic the sorrounding and lures The creature could change shape and size but a little bit more flexible. It's body is covered with rough and tough skin so it can wade out of the water. Finally, it has fins/tentacles they can bend and shape to create lures to hunt their prey. What do you say? |
| gaea's_leige03-29-04, 09:37 PM | thats perfect and how bout the underside of it be a lighter color and the top a darker color to mimic the sharks camofloge in the water. but i also want something to be able to hunt this creature, like a specific thing that can kill this creature as a source of food |

If it's white sandy beaches, the creature's skin could change to blend into white sandy beaches. If it's dark rocky beach then the creature should be able to blend there too. That's why I suggested the octopus' ability to blend into the sorroundings. Whatever the beach terrain is, this creature can adapt. |
| gaea's_leige03-30-04, 06:23 AM | oh ok i see what you mean thats kewl. thats good so far but im gonna try to draw it but im not the best at drawing. |

| Leaves03-30-04, 08:14 PM | How about the belly is white, the back changes colors and patterns to match the seafloor like a flounder does, and then the sides are mirrored, like a shiny, um mackerel or sardine, all those fish that are mirror-shiny. The sides mostly want to be reflecting the color of the water, and it could have a carnival-mirror effect if you ever manage to sneak up alongside one. With tentacles. And lots of teeth, I'm sure, right? Can't have no monster without the teeth. ... Hmm, I might like to try drawing that. ... As for what hunts it, so long as it isn't impossibly huge, it's still basically a big fish. It's vulnerable to anything big enough to hunt it that is clever enough to see through the disguise. |
| gaea's_leige03-30-04, 08:31 PM | i think it should have 3 rows of small sharp teeth, and as for the mirror thing i think that works |

| gaea's_leige03-31-04, 06:20 AM | it does look cute and it looks as if its smiling, i like is more as a pet then a fish that can eat lots of things |
| Rny211-09-05, 09:21 PM | but then again, crocodiles smile and cry, so why aren't they cute? |
| Galen11-11-05, 08:58 PM | but then again, crocodiles smile and cry, so why aren't they cute? See their teeth when they smile? Do you think they look cute with those set of teeth? |
| Rny211-11-05, 09:03 PM | Of course, displaying healthy teeth is perfectly attractive. |
| Galen11-11-05, 09:12 PM | Of course, displaying healthy teeth is perfectly attractive. Not to the potential prey (w/c seems to be everyone within their reach). |
| Rny211-11-05, 10:04 PM | Not to the potential prey (w/c seems to be everyone within their reach). Would you prefer to be eaten with rotten teeth? |
| Galen11-14-05, 07:26 AM | Would you prefer to be eaten with rotten teeth? Rotten teeth means I get a better chance of escaping. I doubt it can hold me as tight as healthy teeth. :D:D:D |
| Rny211-14-05, 09:24 PM | Rotten teeth means I get a better chance of escaping. I doubt it can hold me as tight as healthy teeth. :D:D:D But then you have to live with being stained by the rotten teeth. You'll get all kinds of detestable things from that experience. |
| Galen11-15-05, 09:48 AM | But then you have to live with being stained by the rotten teeth. You'll get all kinds of detestable things from that experience. I can live with that. :P :P :P |
| the_one_true_shea01-05-06, 07:51 PM | but then again, crocodiles smile and cry, so why aren't they cute? What? You dont think crocs are cute? I think the crocodile is a majestic animal! The virix are sorta crocodile creatures... I think they're cute... Anyway - Predators? So this thing is a landwalkin, camoflaugin, and all around resourceful fish. What kind of creature could possible hunt a shapeshifting creature that can run out the water? As long as the dunno stayed near a shore it would be able to shift from water to beach and vice versa to avoid predators pretty easily. Depending on its size - humans and other natural predators would serve fine. If this fish is the size of a shark however... Here is a question: Is this thing supposed to be a maneater? or something smaller? |
| Rny201-05-06, 08:01 PM | Maybe it only eats larger-than-man things, like dragons. Perhaps this creature was assigned the duty of controlling amphibious dragon populations or keeping the dragons out of their assigned locations. It could be in stasis until the Brood emerges as a threat to nature once, when this creature will cull from the wyrmling stock. Also, this creature could be a servant of draconic forces seeking to control the flow of dragon blood in the world, specifically hunting out half-dragons and those who display draconic bloodlines. |
| Book501-07-06, 08:05 PM | Thats a great idea. They eat dragons. Packs of these things could take down upto even a young adult. The Dunno 3:u: Summon Fish 2/2 :t: Destroy target dragon with a toughness 4 or less. "They eat dragons!?!" - Tealern Minkose, planeswalker. "You don't?" - Vrik Mitsok, nameless fisherman. That hits those hatchlings plus some of the weaker/weakend dragons. Dunno School 3:u: 3:g: Summon Fish 2*/2* * +1/+1 per fish under your control. :t: destroy target dragon with toughness of equal toughness or less. Island Walk "Dragons are just their favorite food, they'll still eat you." Sorta like rats, but they eat dragons. Couple of "alpha" dunnos could be worthy of legend, ya know.. Dunno of Dunaria 4:u: 3:b: Summon Legendary Fish 4/5 The Dunno of Dunaria cannot be controled by any player other than you. Spells, abilities, and effects that would change the player in control the Dunno of Dunaria fail. Never been cought, and never will be. This is the one that got away! |
| the_one_true_shea01-07-06, 08:31 PM | Is that Book5 or Bookss? I mean audiably. I see you are ala the CoCo.. say High to Vath for me! :D You should come by and make cards more often! How about another one? :u::u::u::r::r: Deep Dunno 2/1 The Deep Dunno gain +1 power for each mountin in play, and +1 toughness for each island in play. :woot: Good Idea Rny2! Dragon eggs and whelps (seeing as they infest as opposed to inhabit) make a great _food_source, and could serve as an amazingly elegant explanation for the "dunno/owlbear" phenomena. Basically, normalish creatures that are simply far more combat worthy than their mundane inspiration.. "they hunt baby dragons." Evolutionarily .. thats got to put some mean into a species. |
| Rny201-11-06, 06:59 PM | Vrik Mitsok eats dragons, is this a basic drive of Vrik's people, or is it set on by preference or enviromental conditions? Do they need to eat dragons? Tealern Minkose seems to be alarmed by Vrik's statement. Is he simple reclusive and unknowing of common knowledge, or are Vrik's dragon-eaters hidden from common sight, and it is only Tealern's planeswalkerdom that allowed him to see this? Is Tealern an outsider looking in, or an insider reviewing himself. Vrik Mitsok is a 'nameless fisherman.' Are they nameless in the conventional usage of the word, or are the nameless fisherman a special corps of dragon-hunters and -eaters? How does this affect the fishing business? Are there dragon-fishers on ships crossing the seas to protect the ship from dragons? Is there a market for dragonmeat? What happens to Tealern and Vrik? Is Tealern on a quest of discovery, trying to find out the secrets of the primordial dragons, perhaps? The 'alpha' dunnos, are they of reknown? is there a communication channel between dunnos so that they know who the alpha dunnos as? can the dragon-eaters connect to this dunno-channel because of their kinship to the dunnos? Is the appearance of an alpha dunno a once-of-a-lifetime event, or is the alpha dunno secretly a (sub-)race of dunnos that is spread across the globe and the personalized names are misleading? |
| the_one_true_shea01-12-06, 10:37 PM | Vrik Mitsok eats dragons, is this a basic drive of Vrik's people, or is it set on by preference or enviromental conditions? Do they need to eat dragons? Nah, its just a very common meat on this world... what with all the hatchings.. An outsider looking into something uncommon on other worlds, but dreadfully common on this world. The occasionally dragon steak sure.. but this world has sporadic (and regular) flurry of dragon infestation. Basically Tealern (outsider) is walking the beaches with Vrik (native). Outsider askes native "what do those walking fish eat?" Native replies "mostly dragons" Outsider flips out and learns that the native also eats dragon meat regularly. How does this affect the fishing business? Are there dragon-fishers on ships crossing the seas to protect the ship from dragons? Is there a market for dragonmeat? Yes, yes, yes! What happens to Tealern and Vrik? Is Tealern on a quest of discovery, trying to find out the secrets of the primordial dragons, perhaps? No he is a plansewalker trying to take over the multiverse.. (I think thats the point of m:tg right?) The 'alpha' dunnos, are they of reknown? is there a communication channel between dunnos so that they know who the alpha dunnos as? can the dragon-eaters connect to this dunno-channel because of their kinship to the dunnos? Is the appearance of an alpha dunno a once-of-a-lifetime event, or is the alpha dunno secretly a (sub-)race of dunnos that is spread across the globe and the personalized names are misleading? I was thinking just standard (primary proginator) kinda alpha, but hmmm well.. hmmm.. nah. You know I'm usually all for taking it wackier.. but in this case I think leaving the dunno out of too mystical a arrangement would be cool. They are just fish. Big fish, maybe even pretty smart fish! but just fish. Alpha meaning "the biggest one" - perhaps changing the alpha to +1/+1 per fish under your control? :shift: island walk. |
