| Decivre12-14-07, 01:30 PM | I thought I'd start the donation process with a little write-up I did after reading the intro thread. It's of five gods I created to be a basis behind all the gods of this campaign setting. Each of them are centered around three different neighboring colors, so every color has three greater gods, and it gives characters of a specific color at least a small pantheon to pick from without having to delve into other colors. Let me know what you all think of them, and enjoy! THE FIVE GREATER GODS The five greater gods have only one alignment, and is usually worshiped by those who agree with their extremes. There are guidelines as to their personal beliefs, but unlike most gods, they see themselves as necessary, and neither are at peace or war with one another. MDCCLXIV, Being of Progress Lawful, White/Blue/Black MDCCLXIV (pronounced 1-7-6-4) is the sexless god of control, machination, and conquest. MDCCLXIV believes that all things are part of a great machine that exists solely to keep the cogs of time moving. It can be completely amoral in its quest, willing to slay innocents by the thousands if it would achieve its ends quicker. According to its plans, life should be a straight path, which none should deviate from. It believes that in the end, all things must serve all things, whether they wish to or not. Its symbol is a 7 by 7 cluster of squares with a circle in the middle square, representing how all things should fit together perfectly. Khalvis, God of Annihilation Evil, Blue/Black/Red Khalvis is the god of death, result and purpose. He too believes that all things have a final purpose, but also believes that no matter what you do, you will serve it anyways. He believes that the end of all things is the goal of existence itself, as every beginning has an end. His philosophy leans away from “a means to an end” and closer to “an end to all means.” Those who actually worship him only pay him lip service, for any truly devote worshipers of Khalvis would end their lives immediately. He is usually worshiped by self-serving beings who enjoy a god who cares nothing for what they may do, good or bad. He has no symbol. Mikira'u, Goddess of Destiny Neutral, Green/White/Blue Mikira'u is the personification of all things past, present and future. She sees herself not as a god, but as a witness to all things. As the bearer of all knowledge, she is most highly regarded by wizards and scholars. Hers is not to act, but to document, study and know. The only time she might act is to preserve what could be forgotten, for fate is decided by the delicate movement of all things living or not. The future could be predicted if all these things were looked upon as part of a whole, for the future is not something of choice. She agrees with MDCCLXIV in that life is a straight path, but disagrees in that all things will follow that path no matter what. Their independent “choices” are what create that path. Her symbol is a circle with a large number of seemingly random pits and lines throughout, representing how no matter how chaotic things may be, they always fit the whole. Naudanna, God of Essence Good, Red/Green/White Naudanna is under the belief that existing in and of itself is a means. Life is an absolute sacred thing, and its continuance is all that matters. She is a being of both instinct and emotion, of community and singularity, as life can exist with all these things. She cares nothing for art, knowledge, technology or sorcery, unless it exists to create, ensure, or protect life. Hers is an existence of absolution, for she acts on pure impulse for what must be done. She has no need for plans, just for action. When she bides, it is only because her hand is unneeded... for now. Her justice is swift and her vengeance without warning, for those who violate the laws of nature deserve her wrath, and she gives no time or quarter to hear their pleas of reason. Her symbol is a hand or paw print, usually laid in baked mud, representing how life, in all it's shapes and forms, are her children. Vio, Goddess of Conflict Chaotic, Black/Red/Green Vio is a being of passion, who enjoys selfishness, hatred and unthinking resolve to do harm to others. Hers is that there need not be a reason to madness, so long as there is madness. Despite her revelry in hate, she is often revered as a goddess of love as well... for what great love in history hasn't spurned a two-man war for one heart? She believes that all beings should satiate their desires to the best of their ability, no matter who must be hurt to achieve it. Her worshipers are people of conviction, unyielding in the face of adversity, unwilling to compromise with any obstacle. Her symbol is a char mark, representing the ravage of war, the burning passions of love, and the seething desire to hate. |
| Book512-22-07, 07:32 PM | I like the sorta "council" thing. How much of the other contributions have you got to? I'm curious as to how this would interact with the speculative "mega-dragon gods" and Gaia motif. At one point "no super gods" (greater gods same diff) were called "no good" ... of course that was awhile ago. The idea being that neither M:tG nor D&D are "hegemonic" in that there is no pantheon set in stone. Its Archons, and Astrals, and Plansewalkers "oh my" ... BRILLIANT! Just had a great idea! Not ... Greater "Gods!" PLANESWALKERS!? Wouldn't that be neat. These guys are "the greater gods" ... "so to speak" but really they are the ones with the ... (drum roll) LIBRARYS! Big giant (legendary) magic libraries that their followers can access somehow... hmmm. Land - Legendary Library (Black, Blue, or White). :t: Search your Library for a Library card and put it into play. :t: Create 5 White, Black, or Blue 0/1 token creatures. Land - Legendary Library (Blue, Black, or Red). :t: Discard the to card of target player's library. :t: Target a creature and place it in your library. Land - Legendary Library (Green, White, or Blue). :t: Search your deck for a creature and put it into your hand. :t: Search target library for a creature and put it into play. Land - Legendary Library (Red, Green, or White). :t: Target creature gains regenerate. :t: Target creature gains protection from Black and Blue. Land - Legendary Library (Black, Red, or Green). :t: Target creature gains a +1/+1 token counter. :t: Create a Black, Red, or Green 1/1 token creature. |
| Decivre12-23-07, 02:59 AM | Actually, I was afraid that the project was dead, so I'm kind of glad that someone is responding. I can't say I've seen the other ideas, but I was thinking perhaps it might be best to set up different planes should multiple people come up with ideas that overlap... they can all be used on different worlds. Just out of curiosity, are there plans to start working out how mechanics will work? I was thinking that the colors could replace alignments. |
| Book512-24-07, 08:41 PM | Just out of curiosity, are there plans to start working out how mechanics will work? I was thinking that the colors could replace alignments. Well, two things. One the rules are kinda "second string" to the actual setting, though I do lean toward the whole "mana alignment" system myself. With leads to part two. No, we are not going to "split them up" in to parallel worlds. I mean multi-planer stuff is cool and all - but it really kinda needs to be cohesive. The "World Creation Project" has a pretty strait forward goal. To create one world that could be realized in both M:tG and D&D terms - but is not the one or the other first. Not all the ideas that have been contributed will end up in the end product, but we really want to get them all worked together. More so than the M:tG/D&D thing, thats the difference between WCP and the Campaign workshop. A single world created through community collaboration. If you set you view settings to "all time" you should be able to find my "one true summary" thread ... which has links to most of the relevant contributions. Nothing is "set in stone" or anything. Well ... thats my take on "The World" we are creating. Yeah I like to refer to it simply as "The World" |

Yeah I like to refer to it simply as "The World" Well, I figured these five greater gods would be ephemeral beings that don't have any physical form in the game, while the "lesser" gods would be planeswalkers in the setting. I kind of designed these beings as the base pantheon of the setting, creatures far too powerful to be actual cards, but easily referenced in cards. |
| Book512-30-07, 02:12 AM | I'll put that (and a few other things) into the summary thread, here in a bit, Have you found any interesting threads in teh history? Specifically there was an interesting discussion of making trees into gods ... well they would be way huge big trees. but still. god trees  |
