More ideas scavenged from my old stories...

I created this world named Arcania a few years ago. It was the basic dragons-elves-humans-giants-ogres-dwarves-goblins-orcs thing, and was pretty boring. Then I started writing the history, and the whole thing took off.

Dragons ruled Arcania in prehistoric time, then a coalition of the different races revolted and wiped out the race of elder dragons, leaving the last one sleeping underneath a volcano. Unfortunately, the human empire conquered the other races.

The elves surrendered, and their king became advisor (and later regent) to the human king's heir. Under the second king's rule Arcania entered an era of peace. Elves, humans and dwarves (and even a few ogres and giants) began to live together and interbreed. The orcs and goblins were banished to the outer reaches, where they eventually became a single race- the chaos hordes.

When I started writing I found that I had a rich setting for my epic tale. The king has died, leaving a weakling heir. The magical orders seek to grab power. The last dragon elder awakes from his thousand-year sleep. And all of it takes place in a world of tension, where the races have interbred, and issues of ethnicity and race sow the seeds of chaos.

My point? My little world (which I later destroyed) gained depth when all of the elements began to interact. I'd like to see more of that on these boards. I've noticed each idea on each thread has developed on its own, isolating itself from the others. This place feels less like a world because of that.

Gah... I have to go. Please use this thread to discuss interaction between your separate races, history and other stuff.

Very good insight(I'm glad you haven't left permanently). We'll probably reach that point once we have enough ideas formed here. Right now we only have few things to use for the interaction you're suggesting.

Okay. This world needs some sort of continuity, so I'm going to conduct an idea census. There are three categories- race, geography and history.

Race- Duh.

Geography- A place that needs to exist for your idea to work.

History- An actual event (as opposed to mythical) that needs to have happened for your idea to work.

Please respond. This forum looks almost dead to me, only everybody doesn't know it yet.

Race -We're still filling it up but so far we're stuck to 3 and we're still not complete with those.

Geography - Under consideration and will begin after the race and magic.

History - Nothing much except folklores and small historical events.

Last time I checked this forum has no pulse. :D :D :D

No, it should look like this-

Race: Drakar, Virix...

Geography: Underdark...

History: ...We should probably start with the Creation.

As for magic and planar systems, I'm staying away from that. Let's decide that after many races/histories/places have been made, so we can conform to them.

I know there is one more race aside from those 2. Virix and Drakar's habitat is already stated I think the Geography should also include those.

History - I think it would be better to tackle it per race since each race has different way of recording history.

I'm waiting for them to register here, since some people have left this board or given up. This census will also show who's still at it.

Even if races have different versions of the Beginning, there has to be a true, accurate version of events, at least for us creators.

I don't understand.

I mean it would greatly affect how we create the history of each race if we already have a general history to follow.

It would, but this is just the Beginning. I don't think it would affect histories that much, unless the race played a major part in it- and that would be bias.

Also, we could make it so that no single race knew the whole truth, just like real life. Darn I have to go. See you tomorrow. Please register!

Races- Virix, Drakar, Shadowrats, Elemental Elves, Dolphin-folk, Merthings, Dabbs, Gnomes, Shalendae, Akaren, Demortali, Ancient Guides + Guardians, Extinct Technological Race (ETR),

Geography- Underdark, Leylines, Magically Charged Lands, Planetary Rings, Cosmology

History- The Terlionic Wars, "Parting Passage of the Ithawu" (a very good 1st degree source)

As far as bias goes, it will be impossible to remove. Everyone has their own point of view, be they a member of this world or not.

History is completely warped by the way. As time passes on, everything goes wacky from the conflicting perceptions of history. It can only be straightened out if enough of the people of this world believe a single perception of history, which is kind of impossible.

Geography- Dont forget the Virixs Desert.

Race: (In addition to nick's list) Orcs, Jherliks
Geography: Ocean(s), Desert, Tropical jungle - I proposed that the homeland of the Jherliks was a tropical river, like the Congo or Amazon, called the Taknonteng River.
History: Some time in the distant past, the ETRs and the Gnomes had some sort of relationship. Some time afterwards, the ETRs went extinct. My unofficial Jherlik history includes a migration away from the Jherlik homeland that started about 200 years before "present". It was sparked by some catastrophic event: possibly a war with the Drakar(???)

Okay, races first-

Gnomes
Elemental Elves(We should make a name for these)
Jerliks(Tailed humanoids)
Virix(Lizard-centaurs)
Drakar(Dragon-men)
Shadowrats
Shalendae(dark fairies)
Akharen(insect-mammals)
Demortali(metal-skin humanoids)
Dabbs(Penguin-duck thingies)
Extinct Technological Race(Let's decide who they were!)

Damn, there is A LOT of weird stuff here.:D

Still alive and kicking.

Unlike this forum. :(

That one is still too weird to be called Tolkien-style. I think Dragonlance suits the genre better.

I thought Dabbs were more like those duck-like animals, not penguins.

And Demortali are my creation! Details are in the Underdark thread. Generally, humanoids with skin made of metal with a great sense of community, plus their children start out as incorporeal before slowly shifting to the metallic adulthood.
