| salvatorefan12-02-05, 03:28 PM | I have an idea, im a 14 year old kid who still playes AD&D 2nd ED. and i have a cool class thought up.Elementalists are a sort of cleric/mage and can wield the differnt elements (earth, wind, fire, water)you know, and this class has access to the cleric sphere of elemental spells, and mage spells that have to do with the elements (fire-ball,cone of frost) that sort of thing. i need someone to tell me what they think. |
| Rny212-04-05, 08:20 PM | Maybe this could be a dragon-only class, and let each dragon be able to progress only in the elementalist class(es) that share an energy type with that of the dragon itself? Also, this could be a class for certain devotees or worshippers of the dragons, and they derive elemental powers from the dragon's connection to the elemental source. Maybe the dragons are only clerics (for the prismatic) or cultists (for the mono-coloured) of greater elemental entities, or perhaps the essence of the chi', which is made up of the different energies. EDIT: You're from Earth? Wow! |
| DangerDre12-11-05, 09:50 AM | SalvatoreFan Hey 14yr old Kid! :) Im a 28yr old guy I am impressed with your imagination. I like your idea. I think the guy with the dragon idea is far fetched. If you limit your class so it's equal to a wizard or priest I think that would be no problem. I fear that if someone is allowed all 4 elements, they might be too powerful. I mean it's myth that the world is made of 4 elements. That encompasses everything! Acording to Greek Myth, God weilds all 4 elements. Think about making the elemental User choose one specific element. Or 2 elements but they can't contradict each other (fire/water) Or chose 2 elements 1 being a major, and the other minor. what is the HD on that? d4 for wizard. d8 for Priest. so then d6 to be in the middle? I like the idea of calling them elementalist. I dont like to think of these guys as wizards or priest, for elements are a powerful source themselves. These guys could draw there power directly from elements. I think this class would be really cool, if you mixed it or multi classed (if you could) with a monk, or Samurai . I really like the idea. Perhaps you could make an Elementalist, that specializes like a wizard. you have limited elements but more power. I think in real life, we have found something like 144 elements. So the world has more than the mythical 4 elements. Do you plan on using lighting? Perhaps you could have more elements. electricity, psychic, ghost, soul, blood, light. In my world, I consider magic to be an element itself! |
| Rny212-11-05, 09:42 PM | How do fire and water contradict each other? They're quite cordial, as I see. Sure, some of the additional ones you suggested could contradict more major elements, but then the extra elements seem to expand upon concepts that the present 4 elements already encompass. |
| the_one_true_shea12-30-05, 10:00 PM | Actually there are quite abit more than 144 elements on that there periodic table, but round this unnamed world there are 5 elements. Shadow, Fire, Water, Earth, and Wind. I consider them more on a wheel than in opposition. "far fetched" Dr. Dre here is not so abreast of the situation is he Rny2? "God" wasent even in greek myth. Zues didnt weild all elements.. nor did chronus nor ouranos.. crazyman! I like the idea of having racial prestige classes and a divine elementalist would be a novelty in anygame. I mean taking an elemental domain is hardly the same as having an elementally focused spell casting prestiege class that isnt arcane. For that matter, salvatorefan, (since you are probably still subscribed to this thread) - we are really looking for M:tG/D20 stuff. 2nded stuff, while neat and all is delving further into history (and branching into entirly differnt mechanics). We're already trying to make an apples and oranges coctail.. we dont need tangerines. Back to the Nameless world. The most important thing brought up so far has been of course the "make sure it doesnt outshine the core classes" basically if a prestiege class gives you signifigantly more power than taking pure levels in the core class - then it is a bad prestiege class. But! That said I should go ahead and give salvatorefan a link that could "inspire him" We could use the prestige class in this article here as well of course (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=415258) I wrote it so :D |
| Rny212-31-05, 04:20 PM | Does anyone have the Draconomicon? How are the dragon Prc's done there? |
| the_one_true_shea01-04-06, 12:24 PM | Most of them are for dragon slayers. They have dragon disciples, and hoard raiders and what not. There are a couple of "for dragons" prcs but not as many as they have for "drake smiters" ... if you will. Good feats though. "Awaken Frightful Presence" - gives half dragons the fear ability. |
| Rny201-11-06, 07:06 PM | a 14 year old kid who still playes AD&D 2nd ED. . Once we get down to crunch, (if we ever do) what, flavourfully, distinguishes the previous editions from our present edition of D&D? Are there any constants or closed doors that need to be adjusted? will there be a conversion for the previous editions? |
| the_one_true_shea01-11-06, 10:58 PM | hmm, considering even the closet pie in the sky - Im guessing that a 4.0 release is not implausable. 3.5? Well maybe, but rather unlikely (unless they are planning on running that poney longer than I would recommend). For the most part getting to things like an idea of the interconnectedness of these diverse elements (flavor wise) is probably more productive than trying to hack together some PrCs. I mean, what do you think Rny2? Should we start drawing some maps? To me it still feels like we have half (mayby 3/4ths) of the legos .. to draw an anology. Your Rizwell and Iradro have this "tying together" feel to the concept btw. For one thing they have deffinitive place and distance from each other. (polar) |
