Well, many great ideas have been proposed so here's the list! Remember, this isn't set in stone but it's definately better than "The TCG/DnD World Creation Project".

I'm not sure about the meanings of all of these but here it goes!

I actually just looked at this board. I've been lurking in the Art and Writing rooms for along time now, but anyways, I would name the world Garnilye if I had a chance too lol....I've been trying to create the World of Garnilye for awhile now to use in my campaign.

The names are cool but personally i would name the planet
either Nocturus (Nak-tyuu-russ) or Tutachkna. I like my first suggestion the most.

Delraiche!!!!!!!!!

Where did this list come from? I assume this is just a reference name and not the name the inhabitants call the world. Is it permanent or temporary?

Do these words mean something in a made-uplanguage or are they nonsense-words?
WizO_Shadow

They are nonsense words as far as I know and we're coming up with a general name for the world to shorten "TCG/DnD World Creation Project" ;)

Do you suppose it is time to reset the poll with the highest finishers yet?

I see my two contributions there. :-)

I don't like the idea of using nonsense words to name the world, because it squanders an opportunity to capitivate a player. Why have a boring name that someone simplely has to memorize, instead of one of that makes him say "Ooooo..."

It should also probably begin with "The." This makes it sound more important.

Iuris means something... I made sure of that.

The name of a world should be simple. Consider: Earth, Toril. No one likes to refer to the planet on which they live as a confusion of consonants. Iuris is the smoothest-sounding and the most evocative. Myr is a close second, but there is something trite about that name. (Mir is already a region in the Forgotten Realms.)

Also, it's the name of a creature type in Magic, and the name of a time-split Earth in Time's Eye.

Thanks, but I guess this place is rather hopeless...

The universe/cosmology was always known as "Dominia" (and should stay so).
Dominaria is the true name of Magic's 'main' world. It comprises many far-stretching continents.

Remember that the world is not going to be called the same thing by everyone (that would be a pretty odd and important societal issue to address if they all called water "water" ... )

So who will be the dominant social group/race in the world? If it's elves we can assume a long flowery name, but what if they're jungle elves? The name would have to sound different (maybe something ancient South American).

But you have to choose a dominant group. Otherwise your map will have every place name listed six times and nobody's names will match up. You can bet your bottom copper that the goblins of Pomarj don't call it "Oerth" ... it would be silly if they did.

Anyway I voted the one that's short and starts with "I" ... I forget what it was now.

I would like to add that the name is the reflection of the world itself. Each name would produce an image from the readers imagination such as: something like Nova may produce the image of a shimmering planet on the verge of destruction.

What my point is, perhaps the title could wait? Until more of the world is developed. If it is a vast world with varied geographical features then the title could be a bit more random. If it's something more focused on say a desert or a forest, then I feel that it should have a focused name. Representing the planet itself.

Thank you,
Daniel Hannigan

I think both Iuris and Deja are nice. Deja sounds like the name of a character from a book I read once, though.

You know, if we do not set this world in one of the pre-existing worlds from previous Magic sets, the only thing that makes the world "Magic" would be the magic system itself. Not only that, but everyone is talking about doing the world before the rules, but that would just remove the Magic flavour. You have to think, "What would really make this world scream 'MAGIC'?" I know that Dominaria seems to really capture the spirit of mainstream Magic (in my opinion Mirrodin and Kamigawa are a bit specialised). I believe that we should use Dominaria because we have so much material to work from, in both the sheer number of books and cards themselves. Dominaria is the setting for every set apart from the first core sets, "Arabian Nights", "Mirrodin", and "Kamigawa".

However, after we complete this project, it can always be expanded to include other Magic worlds.

Just my 1.5 cents Canadian.

Voted Iuris. Possibly would have gone with Alkorian, if it had been Akorian (ack-or-I-an).
Wondering who I am? Yeah, me too. I saw this place and thought it looked pretty interesting. Have never played M:tG, and don't really intend too (it being card games... bleah), but I'm very interested in helping out in this. Will say more later.
Iuris is definately a good name, I really like the power behind it, but how would it be pronounced? I-U-ris, ew-ris, ir-is, I-er-is?
@balzaamon, your 1.5 cents are good with me! It's BC! :D

Do any of these names have a meaning (besides Pangea, that one's pretty obvious), or are they just combinations of syllables? Just wondering ...

Iuris is Latin.

Deja is the AI that belonged to Dr. Halsey in the Halo books...:p

I read way too much...

BTW, I vote Nova, simple, yet dramatic..

Walang alam is Filipino for "Knows Nothing". It's a joke designed to make people look like fools. Leave it.

i like Iuris

if you pronounce the 'u' like 'yu' and roll the r (just once, not like the rr in spanish, just tap the top of your mouth with your tounge, almost lilke a d), and say the 'is' like in 'hiss' it sounds really cool :P

Did up a world once...

Called it Thear (as Tear). Basically, it is just rearranging 'Earth'.

Suppose to be an alternate Earth, so...

Out of the entire list, "Myr" attracted me the most. Not sure why, but I know its lenght had something to do with it. I know short names do not really sound fancy or even enticing...but if you ask me, that just means there is plenty to room to build.

Not to mention the words we may spit out may mean nothing at the moment they are made...but characters we create tend to take a life of their own, and thus meanings become clear. Who knows, one of these names may mean nothing to you, but in its own realm it causes knees to quake.

I think that you should name the world zexun, I like Z's. Or X's that make the Z sound. My character is named X'el Flogar.
