Err... um... yeah. After we get some suggestions, I'll run a poll if need be :)

Myr was proposed in a poll to choose the world map thread.

Different species, different civilizations, will have different names for their world. Is this going to be some sort of official name? Who will use it?

Maybe there is some sort of scholar race that archives the major happenings in each land. But good point about each one having their own word for it. However, Myr is a lot easier to type than the TCG/DnD world creation project

I'm all to symbolism so I suggest: Pangaea.

Three votes for Pangaea!

I'm against Pangaea, on the basis that it's become sort of a catch phrase in the real world. I think it'd be better to come up with something a little more obscure.

Hang on, let me translate something.

Okay, Neourutus. I believe that is accurate. If we have any scholars in ancient greek, I certainly won't be offended if my rough translation is corrected. It means newly drawn, or freshly created.

What do you guys think?

Catch Phrase? I don't know about your country but schools here in the Philippines rarely teach anything about prehistoric times so almost no one here knows what Pangaea means.

I suggested the name for 2 reasons:
1) Symbolism
2) Anyone who doesn't know where that name comes from will look it up and might get interested in reading anything related to Prehistoric times.

Ah. Here in America, it's much more common knowledge. I agree that perhaps it would spike an interest in ancient culture, but I still recommend something more difficult to associate. What do you think of my suggestion?

I think we should stay away from anything traditional and go with something completley new. Once we get a few suggestions I'll throw up a poll and see what happens :)

It seems to me that the name should reflect the worlds theme or idea - since thats kinda vauge than a name that is kinda vauge works.

Analyzation of Myr:

A generally female name
Implies smallness , cuteness
Implies a certain type of fantsy - one that uses 'y' for everything.
Similar words include : Mirror , Sly , Mire , Purr,

I'm not sure "walangalam" meets that criterium http://www.geocities.com/leaves_or/leafwink.txt

I'm all for short and simple (obviously). One or two syllables, something that even I won't have to double-check the spelling every time I type it.

mmm, Nova?

so then whats the name of the world, and is the name going to be and is that name going to be the name of the planet or is there going to be one continent called that name. cause i was thinking that everyone can create a small piece of a land and then we add up all the differant ideas for the places.

Wouldn't it be more natural to determine the most powerful culture and its language, and just use its word for the project?

Walangalam means "knows nothing" in Filipino. You're being taken for a ride, people.

Myr is currently a name of a creature type in Magic the Gathering, so it might be confusing.

Maybe we could find an old word that means "made" or "new", and use that for the name. It would certainly suit this world, if we ever actually make it.

*Nova means new. :D :D :D

I don't think myr would be any more confusing than pangaea. On the one hand, you'd have some people expecting it to have the MTG "myr" in it, on the other hand, you'd probably have people expecting dinosaurs and other prehistoric things.

Myrtelktt (pronounced Meer-tell-ket)
Mokkzamin (pronounced Mock-za-meen)
Aeiluvius (pronounced Ale-oo-vee-is)
Mozaniim (pronounced Moe-zah-neem)
Aynumatl (pronounced Ay-noo-mott-il)

Are any of those good?

Jake

I like Mozaniim. Myrtelktt strikes me, too, but I'd rather pronounce it [MURR-tell-ket], like "myrtle-tree".

No_va would be "no go". :P :P :P "nova" is latin. I thought it was kind of funny that it turned up in a random word generator, and just happens to mean "new", so I suggested it. But it might seem strange to USA board members if we use it, since it's the name of a public TV program, and a fairly common word, too.

Dictionary.com said Latin. And we know it must be true, because it said so on the internet!

and also cause its part of my language...so im guessing were not using Nova...can we hav a poll or something cause we need to find a name soon cause all we have been doing is cpmpetting against each other for the names. and i have been maping maps for some random area of this place and i need to know a name.

i think we should worry less about the name of the world and focus on creating the land itself. If everyoine spent half as much time making the land instead of focusing on the name i think we would have some of this done already.

I think we should name the world Dystopia

Iuris (eeyuris). In Latin it means "broth". :D
Obsidianjaerc

Dystopia is the name of half of a gnomish plane in D&D and would lead to immense confusion.
Johnny3D3D

04-06-04, 01:57 AM
I wasn't aware of that. I mentioned Dystopia because it has the opposite meaning of Utopia - instead of a world where everything is perfect, it is a world where everything (for a lack of better words) is messed up.
