| Master_Aerethos03-11-06, 03:37 PM | Ok. So my brother and I are making this campaign setting, called "Nether Light" (no particular reason, couldn't think of any better name) because currently we are doing a campaign in Dragon Lance, which we know not much about and don't really care for, and when we go into a new campaign, we'd rather do it in a setting we like. So I'm going to write out pretty much everything that we have, and see what you guys think. Questions, comments, suggestions, critique, all are welcome! MAIN IDEA The world of Nether Light has three primary "guilds" that are pollitically motivated and trying to gain as much power as possible (well, they are "guilds"). These three guilds are: The "Heavy Magic Users", the "Medium Magic Users/Combat Types", and the "Militantly Anti-magic" types. These guilds all hate eachother, think they're all right, blah blah blah. But not everyone is part of a guild, because that would just be dumb. That's what we've got so far. PLAYER RACES Humans ....not too much to say, but I was thinking that they could possibly be a slave race. My brother doesn't like the idea. Dwarves I don't care so much for the general types of dwarves, so we altered them a bit, in terms of culture and preffered class. The dwarves of Nether Light are feverishly merry. They embrace a Dyonisian lifestyle and their undermountain citadels frequenly ring with the sounds of celebration. They understand, acknowledge and respect natural and universal laws, but do not see any reason to translate those to societal laws (Thus, we were thinking that they would be of a chaotic alignment). An indivdual dwarf's word is his highest law, and thus, dwarven law is mostly an assortment of informal, communal agreements, inforced by common sense and personal integrity. They are as described in the PH (Player's Handbook), except as follows: Starting Langs: Common, Dwarven. Bonus Langs: Goblin, Gol-kaa (Goliaths, if you don't know what they are, read on), Gnome, Orc, Terran and Undercommon. Preffered Class: Ranger (Because they hate goblinsso deeply (because of their extreme alignment differences) , dwarves are inclined to follow the ranger path) Gnomes They're exactly the same as in the PH. No differences. Hlaflings Basic halflings...changed from whisper gnomes, my bro and I just like halflings better. Goliaths Tall, athletic mountain dwelling humanoids with stony skin tones and lythoderms. Very competitive culture/psychology. Racial traits as follows: +4 Str, -2 Dex, +2 Con. Base Land speed 30 ft. Medium monstous humanoid. Counts as a large creature when advantageous to him. Can make standing long & high jumps as if running. Can engage in accelerated climbing without -5 penalty. Automatically acclimated to high altitude, doesn't take penalties for mountain travel as described in DMG (Duengeon Master's Guide). Doesn't ever lose acclimation. +2 Sense motive. Auto Langs: Gol-kaa, common. Bonys Langs: Dwarven, Giant, Terran and Gnoll. Favored class Barbarian, Lvl Adjustment +1. Chitahuri (Lizard Folk) Ancient, not so powerful anymore lizard folk. We neutered them so they have no racial adjustment. Racial traits as follows: +2 Str, +2 Con, -2 Int. +2 natural armour, Hold breath 4xCon score minutes. +2 racial bonus balance, jump and swim (becuase of tail). Natural attacks: 2 claws 1d4 each, bite 1d4. Auto Langs: Common and Draconic. Bonus Langs: Aquan, Goblin, Gnoll, Orc. Alfatel This is our (my) own made up race. Basically 4 armed, desert dwelling nomads, with an Arabic/Indian/Japanese culture, more leaning towards Arabic. The first thing someone notices when looking at an Alfatel (besides the arms, if they can see them) is the vibrant inhuman shade of their eyes, which can range from deep jade, amythest, gold, and ocean blue, to name a few. The next thing one notices is that they never blink. Due to the harsh desert environment and their need to hunt, they have clear nictitating membranes (nictitating membrane being an internal structure that acts as a eye lid), which closes laterally, and they protect and moisturize the eyes. Their eyes are even more fantastic in the sense that when the pupils are in a round state (like human eyes), they see "normally", but when they compress and elongate to be that of a snake's eye, they can see in the heat spectrum. Reason being that when sandstorms come, they cannot see their comrades in normal light, so they track them in a heat spectrum. Racial traits are as follows (so far, anyways): +2 Str, -2 Cha. +2 to climb and spot. Darkvision 50 ft special. Alfatel "darkvision" is specially adapted for a desert environment. Rather than being black and white and providing normal detail, it is exclusively in the infrared spectrum, allowing tribe members to see one another during sand storms. In adittion, they can train this vision to see some things normally not visible, such as invisible opponents (we will make a racial feat for this later). Weapon proficiencies: Falchion, Scimitar, Kukri, Spears. We don't have any languages sorted out yet, as we haven't developed the entire desert society. Favored class: Barbarian/Fighter. (It depends on which class they take first). Drow We also neutered these guys so that they would be friendly to 1st level characters/campaigns. Otherwise, they are Drow. Racial traits are as follows: -2 Con, +2 Int, +2 Cha. Darkvision 60ft. Spell like abilities (caster level=class lvls):Darkness, Faerie Fire all 1/day. Weapon Proficiencies: Hand crossbow, rapier, short sword. Light Blindness (I'm too lazy to write it, look it up). Auto Langs: Common, Undercommon. Bonus Langs: Abbysal, Aquan, Draconic, Drow sign lang, Gnome, Goblin, Kuo-toan. Fav Class: Female (Cleric), Male (Wizard). That's what we have so far. Please share your opinions!!! Master_Aerethos |
| the_one_true_shea03-15-06, 12:26 PM | A: Your neutered races are still on the +1LA level instead of LA+0 as intended. B: The guilds and their descriptions are more important than the races and their adjustments. C: Repost this here: This is the link your looking for. (http://boards1.wizards.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&daysprune=&f=295) D: Or see my sig for a link to the champaign workshop. Looks like a nice start. :D Any thoughts on the WCP? You might have to set your forum display to more than 2weeks to see the majority of the threads. I set my default to "display since the beggining." So I dont have to worry about it. |
