How much interest is there from players and GMs for a "Living World" style of play run in a manner similar to the RPGA's Living Greyhawk, with characters existing and interacting in a constant and consistent world in which their actions determine the course of that world's continuing story? As a player or GM, what would such a structure need to have to maintain your interest? |
| Krevon04-06-08, 11:00 AM | RPGA "Living" campaigns never seemed too living to me. Seems to me like there was never an option on where to go or what to do with it.....so I guess for me it'd be choice. (consequently, I know this makes it harder on the dm) |

As a player, the main thing I would need to see would be the fact that my actions would make a difference. In RPGA Living Campaigns, thousands of different adventuring groups are doing the same adventure, and what my PC does makes no difference in the overall story. I would need to see each adventure run only once, so that a PC could do something unusual and have it actually count. As a DM, I would need to have the freedom to develop my own adventures, at least to a degree. If DMs can only run adventures developed by someone else, they will be less likely to want to participate. I believe that other people would agree with me on this subject. |

I think it would be much easier to accomplish this on forums, because everyone can directly speak to the people in charge, rather than it having to go through a bunch of people first. Since everyone participating can directly communicate with everyone else that is participating, we can make sure that no adventures are run twice. Also, we can have DMs make their own adventures, as long as they get approved by the people in charge. |
| crazy_monkey195604-10-08, 04:28 PM | What sort of incentives would have to be in place for DMs? As an example, Living EN World uses a system where-by a DM who successfully runs a full adventure gets bonus XP for their own character within the world. I personally don't like that system since not all DMs are also players. I'd like to hear what other rewards ideas folks have. |
| Krevon04-11-08, 08:54 PM | Avatars! |
| Ethandrul04-11-08, 10:07 PM | I agree, avatars and and access to unique items would be cool. |
| Hexhuan04-12-08, 03:06 PM | We could give them a choice of several rewards, bonus XP and avatars among them. |
| CobaltTheBlueKnight04-28-08, 07:17 PM | Yes, an avatar of your actual "living" character would be nice. |
| BloodDragonMaster05-05-08, 08:48 PM | A choice would be best, so that DMs who like certain things but not others still have incentives to run games. Avatars would be cool, and bonus XP would be nice also. |
