| Amrien06-01-05, 06:40 PM | This is merely an idea I had that might bring in a distinctly unique twist to the world. Make a distinctly obvious that "Dieties" are not "Gods". While they may be immortal and nearly omnipotent beings capable of granting powers, they still might have limitations, or might even be transcended mortals, but most importantly, they are not "Gods". They might even live in the every day world in corporeal form. They might even have a direct hand in every day affairs, perhaps an immortal is a rare sight, but not so impossibly grand as most high fantasy campaigns cast them. I'm voting to make them not so much as gods, but as human. The possibilities opened by the divine walking as men among men would provide for many distinct flavors to the campaign. Perhaps their prescence influences their followers far more than they could from afar, or alternatively, perhaps it causes them to lose influence, as many see them as only powerful humans. Also, if the dieties walk the same paths each day, perhaps they have long settled their differences, via comprimise or conflict, perhaps the champions of the world are not the champions of a dieity, but heroic adventurers. After all, with religion being one of the biggest cause of wars in our world's history, would a world in which the dieties had settled their differences and then directly told their followers to make peace suffer from wars? The only conflict would be with the true evils of the world, undead, crazy wizards, and dragons. Or perhaps a whole new threat, but I'm just opening up the thought of a world being inhabited by such entities. Anyway, that's my two cents. Finally, I'd like to submit a potential God for the Pantheon. Chrosis Chrosis (Crow-sis) is the god of the mind. His title is Psychotic Path. Chrosis is the patron of psions and slaads. He governs chaos, the mind, and the outer planes. His domains include psionics, chaos, and trickery. He is best known for his infamous holy symbol, that of a holey sock. His favored weapons are his claws, though his followers are known to wield clawed gauntlets or grow claws of their own through spells or psionic powers in emulation. |
| Brknlf06-02-05, 04:00 PM | This is an interesting idea. There has been some work done on gods around here already even and its a similar concept. You might want to check out Shea's summary thread (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=398059) . One of the concepts is that the 'gods' exist and function do to the belief in them by their followers. Shea and I have sort of bantered with another idea as well. Originally submitted as an ETR (Extinct Technological Race), we kind of discussed changed that to an LAR (Lost Advanced Race). The thought is the old race is gone (not necessarily away from the world, but in the eyes of the inhabitants, the race no longer exists), but that a new variant of the LAR exists in union with the people (there is some kind of relations, perhaps the 'gods' are the new LAR, more suitable as they coexist with each other). Welcome to the boards by the way. Nice concept on the god. What if disciples of the Psycotic Path, instead of growing claws, harnessed raw chaos via their god and grew random mutations. These mutations don't always have to be beneficial to the disciple either, things like talons, wings, claws, third arms, scaley skin, fingers instead of toes, hair color changes, long tongues, their arms fall off, etc. I think that would play more into the chaotic nature of the god. |
| SilverSlivers06-03-05, 06:55 PM | This is interesting as it dodges some of the theistic complaints that may arise. It also dovetails nicely with Arthur C. Clarke's comment to the effect of "technology, sifficuently advanced, is indistinguishable from magic"... a highly advanced race would be very interesting. |
| Amrien06-04-05, 02:18 AM | Thanks for the feedback. I haven't really finished anywork on anything D&D related, but got an idea for a potential Chrosis themed card. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v325/Talfrey/ARRG.jpg I hope you'll excuse my photoshopping... Oh, and I TOTALLY forgot there was a Dragon named Crosis, so I may change the name. ... Chrosis was originally a play on MY name... so I wasn't ripping off the dragon. |
| the_one_true_shea06-16-05, 05:43 PM | One of the ideas that many of the more M:tG oriented participants have propounded is that in M:tG the "true god" is Gaia, the planet itself. check this thread and you'll get a good idea of how the gods have been considered So far Underdark (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=47577) I think Brklf is the only poster from then thats still here, agent graves too maybe, been a while since I read through it. Welcome to WCP Amrein, it doesnt look like there is much here, but some of the elder threads have gotten pretty long. I have attempted to summarize somewhat.. you should POST (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=398059) on my summary so I dont have to come up with another lame "update" That goes for you too Mr Silverslivers! Ryn2? Kirbykel? TorianFlare! Is my summary off the chart? You may need to set you view to more than a month... or click POST! (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=398059) Chrosis eh... | the_one_true_shea05-16-06, 04:09 AM | Chrosis, got a good feel to him Good cult Good Card. Unfortunatly he doesnt even have a race - or much more than than a cult of psychic pirates. How about this idea. Chrosis is nothing more than a myth. Since myth walks like man in our world - there is a Chrosis now, but the original chrosis was nothing more than a sailors ghost story. One dark day (as these things always go) a group decided to make something a little more of Chrosis. A pirate ship took the name. They wore freakish hand claws to battle. Terrifying masks, outlandish weapons, and practiced hooting and hollering convinced their prey they were insane.. "followers of Chrosis" they called themselves... and were called.. and slowely the heart of Chrosis was stirred. The myth awoke, and he had claws. Five sets of claws became more than just armor. They took on life - became artifacts. The unfortunate pirates who owned those weapons.. became The Chrosis Fists. Chrosis Fist Enchant Creature 5 colorless 3 Black Enchanted Creature gains +4/+0 and doublestrike. Enchanted Creature is indestructable. Perhaps make te chrosis fist a flip of the Claws of Chrosis? How about You may have five chrosis fists in your deck, the flip condition for them is that you must have all five in play? And these probably aught to be Equipment actually... Actually... if the Claws of Chrosis were equipment... but flipped to the enchantment (permanent) that would make Claws of Chrosis a great "potentially cursed" item for the d20 side. |
