Proposal: New Purpose for an Old Forum [Archive] - Wizards Community

04-17-08, 02:37 PM Since early October, 2007, the members of the Play-by-Post Haven forum have been engaging in a series of discussions with the intent of creating a new campaign world.

Those discussions, conducted in the "Directed Discussion" style, have proven enormously fruitful, with the beginnings of a usable world for GMs to mine for their campaigns.

However, those discussions are also off-topic for a play-by-post forum.

I would like to propose that the World Building discussion threads be moved to the World Creation Project forum in the WIZARDS.COMmunity area. The original project for which that forum was created has not seen any activity for several months. Further, the World Building discussion threads are a perfect fit for the overall theme of that forum, World Creation.

I'd like to open discussion of this proposal in both areas. In particular, are there any pitfalls or problems with such a move that I might be missing? Thank you in advance for any and all input.

04-24-08, 10:22 AM Quick question: If the Gleemax world building project is moving into this forum, is this forum going to be opened to other world building projects?

There are a few in the homebrewed section and one that I know that is contained a few threads like the Gleemax world building project. I don't know if they want to move here, but if the 3.5 forums are going to be locked they may want a place where they can continue their project. If this is going to be open for other world creation projects, I'll let them know so they can decide.

Also a few weeks ago a member of Real Adventures wanted to start up a world creation project (Minor one, not making a whole world, just each member taking a part of the continent/world and developing a nation on it.) This would be the perfect place to house such a project if this is no longer going to be the World Creation Project forum, but World Creation Projects.

Please do not read the above as an attack on your project or some other negative thing (my thesaurus is in the shop, can't think of the proper word :D). The world creation project while a good idea is dead, and I don't disagree with the Gleemax World building project being off-topic in the PbP section. I am genuinely asking the above question.

04-24-08, 03:06 PM Actually, I think using this forum for general world creation is a great idea. Let me work up a new FAQ and posting guidelines for the forum and then we'll open the floodgates.

04-24-08, 04:55 PM I didn't think VCL's could be FL's once they became FL's (sorry, I'm responding here cause some like to keep FAQ clean)

Q: How do I start a new project?

A: Please PM the Forum Lead of this forum, crazy_monkey1956, with your proposal. So that different projects don't get confused, please clearly label all threads attached to a given project.

Not complaining as you know I use a similar system in Real Adventures, just asking.

04-24-08, 09:15 PM I'm actually still FL of several forums. ;) There's nothing in the VCL Handbook specifically prohibiting it.

That said, since this forum isn't in my VCL area, I have to go through Bussy for VCL stuff for this forum, just like any other FL.

Hmmm That's good to know. (It was one of the things preventing me from applying to be a full VCL. RA always comes first, but if I can be a VCL and still the FL/GM there who knows)

I've informed one of the groups about the world building project. They are going to vote I think to see if they want to move. I told them to contact you if they decide to.

I have to go back to my area and see if anyone wants to do a project. If so I'll send you a PM.
