The more I think about it, the more I realize that maybe we've been going at this the wrong way. This world is being constructed upside down- details first, main idea later. I guess that's because the details are easier to create, and this method requires less compromise and inspires less disagreement between creators. But the end result is unavoidably a messy, incoherent world. Maybe that's why so many off-topic threads sprout up here. This forum is turning into a Creation Project, not a World Creation Project. Maybe that's okay, but I have the feeling that's not what was originally intended for this forum. I'm not saying we should discard everything that's been made so far. What I'm proposing is that we return to the basics of world creation. The theme first, and once we've handled that planar and magic systems should follow. After that, we can integrate the previously created ideas, and make new ones. No one builds a house by starting with the wallpaper. Non-violent feedback is welcome. |

It might be a bit brutal if you dump all you created before, with all those ideas and effort involved, but if its possible to implement it again ... As for the idea, I really like the thought of the planar folding and the 'melting pot'. The entire setting is quite 'post-apocalyptic', therefore I expect two kinds of cultures to develop: - One is focused towards the future, trying to discover their world anew and find a new way of life in a new world. Aspects here are curiosity, discovery, readiness to discard old traditions and habits in order to find new (and hopefully better) methods. - One is focused towards the past, preserving the memories of the pre-merging and trying to keep the previous state at all cost. Aspects here are tradition and the wish to recreate the state before the merging. This naturally forms a conflict we (as world-creators) can exploit. How will a 'traditionalist' race react when it gets in contact with a 'futurist' race and vice versa? What will happen if two 'traditionalists' meet, but they originate from different planes? |
