| Ayers10-12-04, 05:25 PM | Alright, first of all I like the way your going, but I think we should think outside the box even more. I think we need to decide what sources we will be drawing our information from. Will we be using the already published magic and D&D products, or will we be coming up with our own concepts? I think we should be drawning a fair amount from the already published cards of magic, and using the different flavours of D&D, such as oriental flavoured, or standard medieval, and such. Thoughts? Concerns? Threats? NOTE: Please respond soon. |

I think we should be drawing a fair amount from the already published cards of magic, and using the different flavours of D&D, such as oriental flavoured, or standard medieval, and such. In response to your statement, simply, I agree :D From a legal standpoint, everything will be consumed by Wizards of the Coast, Inc., a subsidiary of Hasbro, Inc. since it will all involve their original works, trademarks, and otherwise copyrighted material. No matter how we go about it (like trying to use the D20 System), we're going to run into trouble on the Magic side of things, so it's best to assume that what I do, I do for the good of all. I suggest we use at least: Every Magic Expansion The D20 System |
| Ayers10-13-04, 05:27 PM | :D I agree. But I think now we need to decide what areas to tackel first. I say we divide the work into the following categories. 1) Geography 2) History 3) Creatures/Races 4) Classes (taking some out, adding others) 5) Different tones behind the world. 6) Magic (how it works, and who can use it) These are only some of the areas we should focus on, in my opinion anyways. Also I think we should have the threads involving the main focus of this project (like Geography, History, etc.) sticked with posts inside of them. That way I think it would make it much better organized. Or whatever you guys think would be best. |

I'll contact him/her and inform them of the suggestion. Note: We already have a 'vault' where final projects will go... so it might take some constant 'bumping' if we can't get a couple stick-ied threads for this forum. |

However, I have already tried to tell them of this some time ago under another name. Even though I never got a reply I wish you luck. |
| sammoo10-25-04, 04:16 AM | Hello, My name is Steven Moore and I am currently creating a campaign setting and I am needing permision to use information from the 3.5 Core books, the Book of Vile Darkness, and Expanded Psionics book. you can email me at druidsam20002000@yahoo.com. I would like to have it publish as an Official D&D 3.5 Campaign Setting. |
| NecromancerElf10-25-04, 08:19 PM | Here is what i think we should work on first, The History of the World what happened what ecnology the worlds at it all depends on that, personally I'm thinking of going late renassainse, minus gun powder :turkey: , the history how about a great disaster happened the day the GMs begin playing the world if they wish too. I'm totally for making this a humanless race setting :schemes: . |
| Ayers10-29-04, 04:07 PM | Hello Necro. I agree, but how do you feel about doing an age that is advanced but still in a medieval style world? One where they have many vehicles and such that operate from magic, with the same medieval or late renissance style to the world. |
| NecromancerElf10-29-04, 07:37 PM | now wat RPGs are we using? How about mid 1600s but no gunpowder |
| Tev Loneglade10-29-04, 08:16 PM | now wat RPGs are we using? How about mid 1600s but no gunpowder I'd prefer not to 'use' any RPGs. Although we could draw from a number of them. We're more likely to draw from previous or current Magic Expansions and accompanying stories, settings, characters, etc. than we would from some pre-existing RPG that otherwise has nothing to do with Magic: the Gathering. Besides, with more than 10 years of expansions (and continuing), we've plenty of material to draw a culture or 'time' from. Including war, tragedy, calamity, and dominion. -2 cents |
| NecromancerElf10-30-04, 03:27 PM | 1) Ok so w/ no particular RPG in mind shall we construct this setting 2) Let's go outside in mostly for the reason inside out is ussually used when you have a group and your playing constructing a world how u play 2) The world in one contient but, great mountain ranges seperate each region 3) The world has many quarrling nations in it, since the Sundering War (see bellow) no one has ever gotten alopng save nations with close alliances 4) There is a conflict that scholars call the Sundering War, it is not an officially declared war instead nations behind the scenes are battling each other, using adventruing parties is common :schemes: , rarley is battle done in the normal fassion with great clashing armies but, when that happens all :censored: breaks loose. 5) Magic is !!!!NOT!!!! technology! 6) There are many noble houses that have simmilar bloodlines, and many nobles are great dragons in disquise |
| Smith11-08-04, 04:02 AM | Might be good to make this in levels of "who cares" WC level 1: The world is called this and youre all fighting and stuff (Magic) WC level 2: These are the races and classes and nations. DM, fill in the rest (D&D) WC level 3: Here's a ton of info, most of which you'll never use, but it makes a good read! (Volo guides) WC level 4: Liek omg, the library of congress called and asked us to stop writing. (As detailed as a 400 page textbook on Korean history) It's totally possible for us to never reach anything like WC4. We ought to aim for something better than WC1. You may find that some people write for WC4 but can't write enough to do a good job. It's hard to recreate reality. So IMO shoot for WC2. Collect all the little bits of stuff that would fit into WC3, and if we have something good then it could be a supplement or something. Doesn;t need to be in the main setting. However, you might find that we have some WC4 stuff. It should probably be expounded upon to fit into WC3, because you won't have enough volume of WC4 to play with. Example of WC4 morphed into WC3: Renaldo, the son of Boopersnot the Goblin king of MacuDonalado, was seduced by Trixy (a 4th level succubus bard/enchanter) to stage a palace coup using irate peasants from the northern reaches of Boopersnot. They had been under heavy taxes and the mis-rule of local landowners for the past 15 years since the Equal Territory Law came into effect. Renaldo gains the support of the Orcish warlord Grog, who takes advantage of the opportunity to break his deal with Renaldo and occupy the MacuDonaladoan capital palaces. This starts a 17-year economic colonialism between MacuDonalado and the Orcish tribes of Zarg, which use the money to stage attacks on their neighbors. (Etc forever) Instead of the above, have Renaldo be the current king's son, and have him plotting designs on the king's life. Mention that he's trying to court allies to the north, but that he doesn't know much about politics and might be taken advantage of, and let the DM come up with the rest (there could be 3 or 4 small countries to the north, and the Trixy angle might not come in at all). EDIT: By the way, when people use that quote about "any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic", they mean a hovercar is like a flying wagon, and a phaser is like a wand of ... um ... Biddle's Burning Ray. They don't mean that if a guy can make clocks, he can make a self-winding clockwork golem. That's just silly, we would have those in all our homes if that were possible. Better to say that anything technological and cheap (like crossbow) is technology. Anything that somes close to reproducing magic through technology (like golem) could be technological in nature, but wouldn't work at all without magic. Most spells that create stuff say that you can't create magic items. What would happen to the campaign if a player of D&D could create an army of little clockwork golems for free using spells or something? |
| NecromancerElf11-28-04, 08:40 PM | OK even though i prefer WC Level 5 :evillaugh lets stick to WC Level 3 so lets take one HUGE idea and take the world from there :plotting: |
| Tev Loneglade01-02-05, 07:15 PM | *bump :) |
| Smyther01-03-05, 01:27 PM | Looking at everything, I can't really help out with the game rules and how to implement M:tG cards and rules and d20 things. But I think I could help out with some stuff. Q1: On Wiz_O Shadow's website, there are a few maps. Is there going to be a poll on deciding, or are we going to just throw ideas about? I would lean more towards a mix of the continents of Map 1 and the 'Antarctica' of Map 5 (just flipped to be a 'North Pole'). Whatever the case, I relatively skilled at making maps, and can draw anything people come up with. These can be sent to Shadow for posting on her site. Q2: Is everyone going to be in on every little detail for each of the areas, or can people be assigned areas to develop on their own, cooperating just to make sure they get trade relations etc right? (ie, what TSR did with the original Forgotten Realms). If the second is true, I would love to be assigned a country, any one will do, any form etc, as I like working in guidelines, just expanding everything to the best it will go. |
