| Brknlf06-20-05, 02:00 PM | Magnus, I'm gonna work with you on this one a little. I'm doing this because, more than likely, your post might be ignored and I get the sense you want to be a part of the community in creating this world together. First off, lets get rid of 'the best' type of stuff. By this I mean, lets not say they are worlds greatest artists, or they are the best magicians, or even they are the best scientists. In fact, we should avoid saying 'they are the best.' Even if they do turn out to be the best because every poster likes them and they turn out that way, its not a good descriptor of the Kari and their civilization. Also, its not the best way to work cooperatively. Everyone is going to want to think their race/culture/submission for the project is the best. If everyone claims to be the best, we have no real grounds to make this basis. I'm sorry if I'm talking too much on this, I just want you to understand where I'm coming from in saying 'lets not call them the best.' I'm saying this because, instead of making the claim they are the best, we should try to define the race and the cultural in such a way that people reading the posts will think 'these are cool, they are the best.' We first have to realize that making up some game mechanics will not be proof enough for most people that these are the best (and much like saying 'they are the best' making game mechanics to prove they are the best will relaly just turn people away from the idea). That all being said (and sorry for being windy there), let's look at your idea. A cat-like race of humans (I assume you mean not so furry, or short-hair all over their body), they live in a mystical forest and they blend their technology and magic into one (they live harmoniously between the two). I don't think we should say they build structures up to the clouds, thats similar to the 'best' claims. I think this (buildings in clouds), however, creates an interesting concept that will help define the race, its culture in this area and this area itself (the mystical forest). We should find some way to have buildings of this culture that coexist with the clouds in some way to keep this edge, and it really keeps the mystical feeling you may want. Here is a way to do this, the 'mystical' forest is, in actuality, a cloud forest. A cloud forest is just a fancy name for a forest in a subtropical region that exists above 1000 meters usually. This location just seems to make the moisture hang heavely in the air so that it always looks like your in the clouds (most of the time - kind of like that monk city in Croughing Tiger Hidden Dragon where the main girl jumps off at the end). I highly recommend a google search on this for anyone who doesn't know what they look like, there are some great images to be found. So, we have a civilization in a cloud forest and we're pushing the world towards massive biodiversity, so this is a great big cloud forest that is teaming with wildlife. Most cloud forests are near the ocean and/or water, so maybe there are some large bays and/or river lakes in the region. I'd suggest the ocean, this way they can be great traders as well (by virtue of location, not because of their seaworthyness). This is why they do have so many exotic animals, some are importated. I think you're going for a revered type of look for the buildings. I'm imagining them to be white structures, very clean/pristine sort of look. In this cloud forest there is a hardwood tree that is so light, once the wood is dried out to be used for building it is almost white (and sometimes it is, but this wood is very vaulable if it is all white). They build their structures with this wood, so it sticks out from the leaves of the surrounding forests. They live on hills so probably build outwards a little. In fact, they may build between the hill tops (with suspending bridges and such), sometimes even building suspending buildings in the air itself (when hills are close enough to support the weight). I'll add some more about culture and the race here in a bit, I need to leave my computer for a short time, but I do have some interesting ideas. |
| Magnus the Brave06-22-05, 10:56 AM | Just to let you know I Changed My First Entry. To everybody: Their are castles Floating in the clouds of the sky. The land is teaming with wildlife near an ocean filled with fish of all sorts as well as whales. The Buildings are a White almost Elf like stuctures with Quarts windows and painted with the symbol of the house crest. The inside is a Midevil dacore with slitely more modern theme. The only thieves in the city are Those who use their skills for Heroic feats of Bravery which by the way is very common. The Kari are Mostly Choatic good and have cat like reflexes and a kind nonJudgemental people with no sense of greed. The only Personality flaw to speak of is That they are very emotional and have extream emotions although they are incapable of hate and are mostly happey they are pron to being sad or on a rare ocassion Fear How ever fear is very rare and only under extream circumstances. The rest of the info on the race kari is at Wizards.COMmunity Boards > WIZARDS.COMmunity > Creative Corner > World Creation Project > Races By Magnus the Brave |
| the_one_true_shea07-05-05, 07:26 PM | this is what I dont like about the kari so far Kari _____________________ STR. -2 DEX. +2 Int. +2 Wis. -2 Cha.+2 5'2" 125LB. _________________________ I'll post Cook's Arcana race the litoran to see what you think. I could mock up a basic artistic kitty human race block if you like, but.. I think this concept would look better on cards, any heros? legends? enchantments that describe what the magence do? Instants that use magence on artifacts or equipment? this is what I do like: Medium size Chaotic good (common) Chaotic Neutral (uncommon) Evil Any (rare) Discription: Looks Mostly human except for 2 diferent traits. A cat tail and ears. They have Mostly Bright collored hair and eyes. They also amazingly good looking. Hair: Blue Blond Green Purple Pink Eyes: Blue Green Purple Red Basically we are looking at you classical cute and furries - I think they could make a great shangra-la turned sesani eyes concept. On the first mention of the floating castles I emmediatly thought of the dieties. What if the Kari (cute as they are) were given their special place in the cloud forest because some gods liked them? Part of the reason they are so nice is becauuse they are like a society of sheltered children. They are artists, and researchers. They have no worries foor the outside world as they are protected by hight, cloud cover, and maybe even the gods now would that cloud forest be :w::u: ley lines? |
