Ok, I gotta ask because this has been bugging me since the setting came out. Is anyone else annoyed by the location of Brechtur? I mean, the seafaring culture is the only culture that doesn't have easy access to the seas (and no access during the winter months.) Every other Cerilian culture is far easier to reach by land than by sea, in fact they are the culture with the best access to land trade routes. I love Cerilia, but this inconsistency kills me. It's like whoever designed the map just wasn't thinking.

Well, actually Brechtür has ice-free ports during the winter, but most of them are located in the south (e.g. Müden's ports, Blackgate). The region isn't very accessible by land due to mountain ranges, humanoids, elven forests, and the Gorgon's presence, so that's a very good reason for being active seafarers.

Why the Brecht settled the coasts of the Krakennauricht at all is a bit confusing, I'll admit that. From what I remember the Brecht, coming from the west, found southwestern Cerilia already settled by the warlike Andu (Anuireans) and xenophobic Sidhelien (elves), and northwestern Cerilia wasn't to their liking (too cold, lots of humanoids, and the Sidhelien). So they sailed through the Thaelesian Passage and turned south into the Krakennauricht where they found a much more hospitable climate, only few humanoids, and scarcely any Sidhelien.

Further to the east the climate gets much worse, as Vosgaard and Torova Temylatin are the coldest places apart from Thaele and the northern ice cap. Sailing through these icy, treacherous waters with a fleet transporting the entire Brecht tribe would've been suicidal. Oh, and did I mention the numerous humanoids and xenophobic Sidhelien in Vosgaard? ;)
