Is this the same discussion as [thread=983097]this thread[/thread]? If it's different, could you please explain how?

In my opinion Astrids needs to either...
1: Be removed.
2: Have it's purpose made clear as something other then the feminist board.
3: Be joined by boards for every other special interist group, which has just as much [or as little] rights to there own board.

I also agree there should be a board specifically for players looking for groups/groups looking for players...

I like that proposed layout, especially the specifically label off-topic area.

I'm still opposed to a specific off-topic area, and see no reason why that can't be a link to the rec room instead of a whole new forum.

Clarification needed:

Couldn't and Shouldn't the Dungeon part of the "Dragon and Dungeon Magazine" be discussed in the "Campaigns and Adventures" section? For that matter aren't the articles coming out better discussed in the Races, Rules, etc... forums. Unless I'm mistaken in it's purpose. Is it for discussing the articles or is it more of a Dragon and Dungeon business forum? Or is it going to be a hidden/locked forum only accessible to those with subscriptions?

One small tweak:

The Off-topic forum (if it must exist), shouldn't be in the Head Quarters section, it is more of a community thing and thus should be in the D&D Community section.

I'll have to think about the 3.5E boards a little more, there should be something that can take the place of the NPC forums (which can be merged to the PC forum)

Other than that it seems to be an ok setup.

I've asked about the Eberron forums in the current Eberron forum, and the impression I got was that they are staying as is with 3e and 4e conversations mixing together.

-There is too much information contained within both settings to relegate everything into a single board for each.

These are discussion forums, not Wikis. An Eberron or FR Wiki would definitely have a lot of categories. But for discussion forums, the goal should be to maximize the number of people reading threads, without risking threads getting shunted off to the second or third page before they are read. The activity on those boards over the past year indicates that one board for each game world will be more than sufficient.

Have I posted? Not to my memory. Do I lurk and read the posts there, regularly? Yes. Of course, my participation or lack thereof doesn't change the fact that the volume of posts in those boards doesn't warrant having more than one Eberron and one FR board.
#46

Stigger

Apr 22, 2008 12:09:14
I'd agree that seperate sections were called for. Volume of posts is irrelevant, especially in the case of a newbie who's looking to ask a question. One board seems like an idea that's running a high risk of having those questions unnoticed and being sent into the oblivion of the back pages. In my opinion, that's true of the Realms, and almost certainly true of Eberron... I fail to see what harm it could do to maintain the current format... this is hardly some zero-sum game.

I agree with Lord Karsus and Stigger. Each of the FR sub-boards are filled with threads every day and if all the sections end up mixed we'll loose a lot of interesting threads due to the almost constant posting. There are days when I get to the FR section and I have two to three pages of new threads on every sub-board.

due to amount of lore (it would be overcrowded with unrelated threads):

Forgotten Realms
Faerûnian People & Places
Classes, Races & Monsters
Magic, Deities & The Cosmos
Combat, Arms & Armor - this one is optional
Forgotten Realms General

Gamer Zero, I don't know how did you forgot to include FR and Eberron in the initial post

Seriously, folks, there's no reason why you can't talk about 3e stuff in the current setting forums. Most setting conversations are about fluff anyway.

I don't think so. Look at some other boards. Greyhawk, Dark Sun, Planescape. One board for each setting. Do you really think you can compare those single-board boards :D to the Realms or Eberron boards? And do you really can imagine that the Realms boards will share the same fate (i.e. few contributers, infrequent visits etc.) in a few months?
What I've noticed so far is that quite a few people won't entirely abandon the FR boards just for the release of 4e, especially those who don't intend to switch. So imho people will keep on visiting and contributing on the boards. And currently there's a lot of contribution, not just in comparison with the mentioned one-board-settings.

Furthermore, discussions are based on information. As Lord Karsus already mentioned, on those boards is so much useful information.
And, if I personally seek some let's say more exceptional FR info, a wiki won't be my first adress. Either the forum or the archive, but that's just me ;)

No, they aren't.

Faerûnian People & Places: 8 threads in the last 24 hours, 2.1 threads/day overall.
Classes, Races & Monsters: 4 threads in last 24 hours, 1.57 threads/day overall.
Magic, Deities & the Cosmos: 3 threads in last 24 hours, 1.85 threads/day overall.
Combat, Arms & Armor: 0 threads in last 24 hours, .43 threads/day overall.
Forgotten Realms General: 15 threads in last 24 hours, 11.9 threads/day overall
4E Forgotten Realms: 4 threads in last 24 hours, .82 threads/day overall
CONSOLIDATED FR BOARD: 34 threads in last 24 hours, 18.67 threads/day overall.

Even if we consolidated every FR board in the forums, the forum would only cycle at about 3/4 to 1 1/3 pages a day, which is pretty much the goal traffic-wise.

The Eberron boards have even less traffic than the FR Boards. Consolidated, they'd cycle at a rate of no more than one page/day.

Again, you guys are missing something here. The FR and Eberron forums do not need to be in the 3e forums. The existing forums will stay as is. The reason for the other singular forums for the other settings is because they are out-of-print.

Just leave it as it is. When someone wants to post something about Eberron, they can go to the Eberron forums where they are currently located.

I actually recommend consolidating discussion of all published game worlds (including Darksun, Planescape, Ravenloft, Dragonlance, etc.) except Eberron and Forgotten Realms into a single board.

I'm not comparing FR to the one-board worlds. I'm evaluating the FR board against Gamer_Zer0's criteria for boards with appropriate levels of activity.

Either the forum or the archive, but that's just me ;)

If the FR forums are consolidated, the information on those boards would certainly be archived.

After June there won't be a "3E forums" or a "4th Forums". There is going to be a "D&D Forum". Whether Forgotten Realms and Eberron remain separate forums are get consolidated into the D&D Forums depends entirely on CM's evaluation. one of the criteria they have been using for evaluation is the volume of traffic on those forums.

FR and Eberron forums are outside of the D&D forums as they are their own sections altogether, thus they are unaffected by the changes to the structure of the D&D forums.

If you look at the broad forum structure, you'll see D&D, FR, and Eberron listed independently. FR and Eberron are not subforums under D&D.

Unless you are a member of Community Management (and you're not), you have no basis to know that to be true.

All of the D&D-related forums are undergoing changes in June after the release of D&D. Heck, Gamer_Zer0 has said that in June the Star Wars forums could be reorganized, and the d20 Forums are definitely getting consolidated in some fashion in June. Don't think Eberron and FR are immune just because they are currently situated outside the D&D forums.

Wrecan, if your plan is implemented you'll simply drive Forgotten Realms fans away from the WotC boards to other sites more in tune with its customer base (ie. Candlekeep). I strongly suggest you reconsider.

According to whom? I could say that they might get rid of the forums altogether and push people to Gleemax blogs, but that doesn't mean that it's likely and that I need to start a whole campaign about it while arguing endlessly about how they should manage it.

So you're reason for this campaign is paranoia? If he hasn't said anything about the Eberron and FR forums, then what's the big deal.

For the record, I'm for consolidating the Eberron forums. Sometimes it's difficult to find a thread or to determine which subsection a particular post should go. If you're worried about keeping up with thread topics and not missing any, subscribe to the RSS feed, and they'll all be neatly stored right there and waiting for you. Even better, you can search through your feeds independently of the forums!

Joa, that may be right, but you suggest to give both the Realms one board and Eberron one. So, considering the still relatively high frequency of visits (I know there where better times) you're contradict yourself, since you said that's not desirable that some threads go to the second or third page without being read by the majority. And imho this can't be avoided with just one board.

The numbers say otherwise. Actually, the FR and Eberron boards are more active now than before because of the concerns caused by changes of 4th edition. (I included the 4th edition FR and Eberron boards when doing my calculations.)

According to Gamer_Zer0, which I concluded from [post=15579536]this post[/post] on another thread on this forum:
"D&D
- All D&D RPG Forums"

This thread, by the way is one in which G0 stated that all RPG threads are going to be divided into three categories: D&D, Star Wars and "Other RPG", with the third category getting hosted in Gleemax's boards, rather than on the Wizards.COMmunity.

If FR a D&D RPG Forum? I think it is. Is Eberron? Yes. The Other campaign worlds? Yes. They're certainly not Star Wars or Other RPG forums.

So until Gamer_Zer0 tells us that, no, FR, Eberron and the other campaign worlds are not going to be consolidated, I think it's a reasonable conclusion that they will be.

One thing to keep in mind is that I think new Forgotten Realms products are coming out at launch or soon after and with the changes to the setting there may/probably will be a boom in activity to those forums. (Same with Eberron in 2009)

The Character Optimization forums get a huge amount of traffic and there are many posters (myself included) who are on these boards almost exclusively for CharOp. Collapsing it in with other boards will alienate a lot of people.

I agree. In all honesty the Character Optimization board is the only board that I truly care about in the forums. I've visited the others, but I don't spend any significant amount of time anywhere else.

Could we get the 4e Character Optimization board made? I think folks are eager to start with predictions and start tearing into it. Also, a lot of people are already in the wings to make handbooks so I think they'd like to start formatting those.
