I'm sorry if this has been asked before (I did a search, but nothing relevant came up), but is there any possibility of getting rid of the "You are leaving Wizards.com" page that comes up whenever one follows a link in the forums? Or, at least, any chance of making it show up (or not) based on the age that one is registered as being? I didn't mind it at first, but after a while it gets kind of annoying.

Thank you.

Do a search in this forum for Redirect Remover, and you should find a thread with a FF plugin that will do the trick. However, you need to be careful when using it. The login prompt on the forums also uses redirects.

Thanks! There are other redirects that this site (and others) use that I would like to keep, but I will try this out and see how I feel. The help is much appreciated.

What's the purpose of the "you are now leaving" page?

Parental warning, letting parents know that whatever you're about to see is not published by Wizards.

You can make the login work by right clicking and selecting 'open uncleaned link'.

What sort of parent lets his child play Dungeons & Dragons anyway? Satan worship, all of it. Might as well give the kids magazines of naked people.

Actually, I'd say it's a general "CYA" (ie. cover your you-know-what) disclaimer--if you choose to click on the link, WotC is not responsible for what you might see. They want to be as clear as possible that it's not part of WotC's website.

Mmm, yes, but I just don't understand why they bother to point out the obvious. I mean, surely people who use the internet are aware of what following a link entails? And the lack of a Wizards logo on the new page would be a bit of a clue as well. It just seems so utterly unnecessary.

Some lawyer or sommit came up with the idea, and immediately after it was implemented, the same issues were raised.

The reason given at that time for the redirect not getting removed was that now the legal staff has a way to CYA for the company; they won't give it up.

There should be an "Opt Out" option for those of us confirmed as 18+ year old members. I'll agree to not sue WoTC because of a hyperlink and WoTC agrees not to annoy the ever living **** out of me with the "You are now leaving..." page. Seems a fair deal to me.

Yes. In fact, it was hot enough to cause third degree burns within five seconds, which it did because the woman who sued spilled it on herself.

There is an opt-out option. Simply download the patch found in my first post in this thread.

People can be amazingly ignorant at times, which is most likely why WotC has such a painfully obvious warning.

This is still possibly the only site left on the internet that has such a redirect. It's something that can be, and should be, covered in the ToS, not at every freaking link.

Maybe instead of inconveniencing the hell out of everyone, WotC could implement a feature like Wikipedia has, with a little icon after the link indicating that it goes elsewhere. Would be considerably less bandwidth, if nothing else. I've adblocked the images that load for that page, but most probably haven't.

It is one of the requirements for the WotC website for the ESRB rating that the website has.

Yes.
It is too bad they do not properly secure the ESRB Kids rating they have on Mirrorstone though.

How so? I checked out the ESRB, and it only seems to apply with respect to getting personal information and assuming that the website will be visited by pre-teens. Since the Mirrorstone website doesn't solicit a kid's personal information, and has only pre-teen appropriate content on it, it should be fine.

As far as I know, it's not required that Mirrorstone not link to other websites inappropriate to pre-teens (like, say Wizards' main website).

The ESRB Kids requirements are in the link.

They can link, but they are supposed to provide the notices, like the one for leaving the WotC site.
Obviously these forums are not rated for kids, yet they are linked directly from the Mirrorstone site with not notice that it is not a kids safe area.

I didn't see that requirement in the ESRB Kids site I linked to.

Chrome is incompatible with Firefox plugins, unfortunately (AdBlock/Noscript is one of the two things I'm waiting on to even consider switching -- the other is a Linux release), as well as Opera user scripts and ActiveX. To my recollection from the thread linked here with solutions, IE and Chrome would both be out of luck.
