| #1JessicaTAug 02, 2013 14:37:22 | Anyone care to make a D&D Next discussion group that's invite only? Where only people who actually enjoy it are there to contribute constructive criticism only? Let me know if there's any traction for that idea . I come to this site and see so much hate and filth, if I were a mod here I wouldn't tolerate certain posters. If your posts get reported to the mods more than once a week, you get uninvited. I'm sure that would disqualify a handful of the worst offenders here. Bullies are enabled by the system that tolerates them. Can I ask mods, what does it take to get permanently banned from here? How many reported cyberbullying or harrassment or personal attacks does it take? Some posters do it every single post and have 20,000 posts. Clearly something is rotten here. |
| #2bobincheseAug 02, 2013 14:42:39 | Oh secret group I wanna join! Really though, the DM playtest session feedback and player playtest session feedback subforums are much more civil. You might want to take a look over there. |
| #3DemoMonkeyAug 02, 2013 14:46:15 | How many reported cyberbullying or harrassment or personal attacks does it take? Some posters do it every single post and have 20,000 posts. Well, empirically that would seem to indicate >20,000. We could start a pool! On a more serious note, no thank you, but best of luck to you. |
| #4JessicaTAug 02, 2013 15:01:57 | Oh secret group I wanna join! That's probably because most of the 4vengers trolls have never even played D&D Next and only come here to crap all over this forum, incessantly. They are a discruptive lot that merely antagonize the rest of us who are looking forward to playing this game |
| #5EnglishLanguageAug 02, 2013 15:03:20 | I hope you realize by your own anti-bully standards, you wouldn't be allowed at said secret forum. |
| #6EnglishLanguageAug 02, 2013 15:04:23 | Oh secret group I wanna join! I have played it actually. My group collectively decided the game was terrible. We then played the recent packet. We found it hasn't really improved. Some people here ACTUALLY know what they're talking about believe it or not. |
| #7QmarkAug 02, 2013 15:06:38 | I hope you realize by your own anti-bully standards, you wouldn't be allowed at said secret forum. A "secret" invite-only forum would exist soley for cyberbullying - disagree and get banned. |
| #8DemoMonkeyAug 02, 2013 15:08:00 | The First Rule of No Fight Club is you don't talk about No Fight Club. |
| #9strider1276Aug 02, 2013 15:10:13 | I could get behind a forum where actually being polite is pushed. I'm keen. |
| #10bawylieAug 02, 2013 15:17:08 | 4venger here! But I'm not here to dump on the game. Oh and I have play tested quite a bit. So I'm going to politely decline. It seems like you want an echo-chamber of folks who agree with you. That's cool - but I likely wouldn't fit in. |
| #11JessicaTAug 02, 2013 15:18:34 | I could get behind a forum where actually being polite is pushed. I'm keen. I agree! I am normally always polite, but when I wade into certain discussions and get my head bit off and told to shut up by veteran posters, it tells me the moderators have no problem with impolite and rude behavior. Essentially the board enables that kind of behavior. If they enforced a better moderation system where people could up-vote or down-vote people for being crass, belittling, insulting, disruptive, or trolling, they could have a decent place here. Most people, even if they disagree, will do so politely. But all it takes is one or two toxic avengers to ruin the vibe of the entire place. It really is the moderator's fault. I will give you a hint : if your posts are being reported more than once a week, you're doing something wrong!! If after several years of having posts reported, you aren't banned, it's frankly the moderators who are to blame for not using the ban hammer. They cannot blame the forums for degenerating the way they are, their little time outs don't accomplish anything. I've seen some of the most disgusting posts ever come out of some of these D&D discussions, and yet the people making those filthy statements are being encouraged by the inaction of moderators to continue their ill behavior. |
| #12crazy_monkeyAug 02, 2013 15:19:12 | Howdy folks, I have moved this thread to the Community Business forum where it is on topic. Thanks. |
| #13JessicaTAug 02, 2013 15:20:28 | 4venger here! But I'm not here to dump on the game. Oh and I have play tested quite a bit. So I'm going to politely decline. It seems like you want an echo-chamber of folks who agree with you. That's cool - but I likely wouldn't fit in. It's not a question of which edition you prefer, you're a swell guy and constructive criticism is the name of the game. Some people however are not providing constructive criticism, and merely come here to be disruptive jerks and insult everybody else. All the time. |
| #14JessicaTAug 02, 2013 15:23:28 | I hope you realize by your own anti-bully standards, you wouldn't be allowed at said secret forum. How am I a bully, exactly? If the moderators did their job and got rid of one or two of the worst offenders, the entire tone of the discourse would be greatly improved. Wanting to not be bullied and insulted, and posting in a polite, affirmative, positive place, is not equivalent to being a bully. Not even close. |
| #15bawylieAug 02, 2013 15:34:17 | Sometimes painting with a broad brush can inadvertently bully. For example, you have called out 4venger trolls. One interpretation is that all 4vengers are trolls, which would be a form of bullying. I prefer to give the benefit of the doubt. So I favor the interpretation that you were speaking about trolls who happen to be 4vengers. Still, it's not very constructive to name-call, especially when you're right. It's bullying (and I'm sure you don't mean to). |

| #18WebsterAug 02, 2013 19:23:09 | The problem with invite only, is you would have to know them beforehand before you invite them to the group. And "constructive criticism" isn't so easy to peg down. Let's say I hate wizards and think they're too powerful. Saying so can be considered "constructive" if I suggest wizards don't have so many spells that could replace other characters. (Get rid of spells like Knock, or any sort of healing magic, and so on.) But, a fan of wizards might not see that as constructive, and bam... I'm out of the group. You're also able to block users you don't like. |
| #19strider1276Aug 03, 2013 0:51:57 | I could get behind a forum where actually being polite is pushed. I'm keen. I try to be polite, to refute the argument rather than belittle the person, and in general try to call for more polite behavior. Of course, being human (for now....muah-ha-h....I mean, um... *cough*), I fail at that from time to time, but I try to apologize for it. As far as the "if your posts are being reported more than once a week" bit goes....to the best of my knowledge, that doesn't actually notify the person whose post was reported. It alerts the moderators, and if they do anything short of a specific warning or worse to the poster, I don't think they know about it. So I wouldn't necessarily blame the moderators so much as the way the system is created. Personally, I'd love to see it more like RPG.net, where moderators will absolutely call out specific posts and speak in the "mod voice" (red text) saying why something was over the line, etc etc. Or they'll just quote a post and clearly say "And that's a one day vacation for you" (or however long they ban a person for). I think that would get the point across much quicker and overall lead to a better board experience. Of course, I'd also immedately give a one-week vacation to anyone who claims any or all of the devs are idiots (and yes, sadly it has happened), or otherwise denigrates their skill or desire to work on the game. I'm all for disagreeing with design decisions, but do so respectfully. Calling the guys who are working on a game ideally for people to enjoy idiots is just disrespectful garbage in my opinion. |
| #20CorranHornIsAwesomeAug 03, 2013 8:54:16 | What kind of people will we be allowed to keep out? |
| #21draco1119Aug 03, 2013 9:12:40 | I have played it actually. My group collectively decided the game was terrible. At least you're getting the option to play before finding out how much you don't like it. With 4E, my group had to shell out $100 to find out that we were never going to play it again. |
| #22CorranHornIsAwesomeAug 03, 2013 10:11:22 | You're STILL whining about that? |
| #23CelticPaladinAug 03, 2013 10:15:09 | It's not nearly as bad as you make it out to be, and even the very negative feedback can be mined for usefulness by the game creators. Believe me, I've worked in a position that relied on consumer feedback. Even the very worst customer feedback left was used to help shape our policies, because someone pissed is someone honest. I'm happy with the direction so far, but I would be insanely angry if this forum turned into an echo chamber of good opinion. We need a diversity of opinions. Some people are very negative when giving opinions in all things, this doesn't mean their feedback is worthless. What is worthless is censoring opinion. |
| #24zombie_babiesAug 05, 2013 8:05:41 | Guys, she ain't askin' that the boards themselves be turned into this happy hippy love fest, she's proposed starting a group to be a happy hippy love fest. There's nothing wrong with that. |
| #25homicidal_squirrelAug 05, 2013 8:40:15 | Guys, she ain't askin' that the boards themselves be turned into this happy hippy love fest, she's proposed starting a group to be a happy hippy love fest. There's nothing wrong with that. Wrong! People aren't allowed to be happy on the internet. No group for you! ![]() |
| #26zombie_babiesAug 05, 2013 8:55:29 | Oh, that's fine. That sort of group isn't for me. If I were to be in a group it'd probably be something that didn't actually exist. |
| #27homicidal_squirrelAug 05, 2013 9:03:33 | Oh, that's fine. That sort of group isn't for me. If I were to be in a group it'd probably be something that didn't actually exist. Don't forget, it must have an excruciating amount of discomfort in areas that are hard to soothe. |
| #28zombie_babiesAug 05, 2013 9:11:54 | Well that's a given. Most of all, though, it can't exist. |
| #29homicidal_squirrelAug 05, 2013 9:39:04 | What can't exist? |
| #30zombie_babiesAug 05, 2013 13:32:26 | Well, it's this ... wait a second ... I'm with ya. |
| #31homicidal_squirrelAug 05, 2013 13:49:34 | The correct response is, the D&D movie they were going to release about the same time as Lord of The Rings does not exist. It never happened. Anyways, to the OP, your can just create your own private group and invite the people you want to discuss D&D NEXT with. If one of them gets out of hand, you can just not them from your group. If they complain, your can laugh at them. |
| #32homicidal_squirrelAug 05, 2013 18:31:39 | Oh oh oh! Can I join? Can I? Can I? Love 4e and 5e (even if doesn't exist yet) and hate 3.x! Liar. No one hates 3.X. |
