#1 SirAntoine Feb 17, 2014 21:41:15	I wrote the following to another poster earlier tonight (I won't say whom), and I think everyone should hear it:   "If I could pick a name that would describe you as a poster, I'd say you are an advisor.  You don't just say something for yourself, you actually dive into the meanings and intents of other posters' words.  You keep a very civil tone, and I doubt you have had many people report you for any violations of the code of conduct.  I think you should consider what I am about to tell you, because it will help you in the future:   Unless you ask if it would be alright to give someone advice, saying to them "you're not making a valid argument", in any words this sentiment, that what they are saying is somehow unsupported or illogically considered, "a fallacy", etc., may come across as unfriendly.  To be told "I disagree," is a lot better than to hear "Your argument is invalid."  If you want to explain why you disagree, you also can without criticizing the other person or trying to "establish rules for how he can even have a conversation with you".   You seek to characterize others' words all the time, and you can be overbearing just like anyone else could.  So be careful of this."   Thanks.
#2 Matyr Feb 27, 2014 13:23:05	While "I disagree" might be nicer than "You are not making a valid arguement" it also does not mean the same thing.  If you don't want people to call your arguments fallacious or invalid you should make valid arguements.
#3 DungeonsNDads Mar 05, 2014 0:26:12	Most people would take any opposing argument as being "invalid" though, as is the nature of a lot of forum debaters. An opinion can't be wrong or invalid as it is an opinion, there is no right or wrong and it is merely subjective, so by stating that someones opinion is in someway invalid is arrogant and rude. Some people know how to debate and be critical without being a jerk about it.
