| #1EscherEnigmaOct 01, 2009 16:33:40 | So what's with threads being outright deleted lately? Isn't it enough to lock them? I mean really... you used to have some recourse, saying "Hey, if we promise to behave can we please continue this discussion and just avoid the bits you didn't like". But there isn't even that anymore... |
| #2WolfStar76Oct 01, 2009 16:53:24 | No? I mean, just scrolling down in this very forum shows three locked threads. |
| #3RUMPLESTIXOct 01, 2009 21:39:35 |
I think maybe this was in reference to a disappearing thread. I am not even sure where it disappeared from or what it was about. But, the timing of the two posts make it appear to be in reference to the same. Here is the post from a thread in the OTT:
So, it appears that a thread which had not been flaming disappeared and that was found to be troubling. Of course, I have seen where many people will not think something is offensive at all but others may find it incredibly offensive. But, I do not know what in particular is the trouble here or what caused the lock (and thread deletion?)

| #4gomeztooOct 02, 2009 0:34:51 | It is also possible a thread was moved to another forum. |
| #5calronmoonflowerOct 02, 2009 1:39:02 | It is also possible a thread was moved to another forum. I would like to add that moved threads no longer leave behind a link to the new location. That means a moved thread doesn't really leave any traces. |
| #6Ash2DustOct 02, 2009 15:04:24 | It is also possible a thread was moved to another forum. Which is actually pretty annoying, come to think of it. |
| #7lokiareOct 02, 2009 18:37:28 | So we identified another bug, that's nice. At this rate WotC can get rid of their software test department and just let us forum goers do it all for them. (or has this already happened?) |
| #8drnickOct 02, 2009 18:50:51 | I don't think that's a bug so much as a missed feature. That's another feature I've never seen used on another forum besides this one. |

Missed along with sblocks. In fact, the performance of the actual forums (separate from the groups and wikis) is like a lesser version of the Palladium Forums of the Megaverse without the sblocks that those forums have. That is pretty sad when you consider that Palladium Books ahve been on the brink of bankruptcy/closing for a few years now. :-( |
| #10kratchOct 02, 2009 19:23:51 | And they've been aware of it for quite some time, it's not something "we've" just identified. |
| #11RUMPLESTIXOct 02, 2009 19:35:35 |
If you were referring to my reference to sblocks...yes, I know tat we have been aware of it. :-) It is just that I started thinking a little while ago about just how important (to me anyway) they appear to have been when thinking about all the threads in the old forum. I started thinking about it and I just don't see how they possibly could have thought it would be ok with people to not have them. I mean, I know that people can complain about a lot of senseless things (hey! no comments out there!) but the sblocks received an enormous amount of usage and the addition of wikis and groups does not replace most of the uses. |
| #12kratchOct 02, 2009 19:53:29 |
I was refering to the lack of redirects for moved threads. you posted seconds before I did
Because it's easier to identify what you like and what you need once those things become abscent. Had we been asked prior to the board changes what we would like from the new boards, chances are, Sblocks would not been on a lot of peoples lists, not because they weren't importent, but because they were ... unobtrusive, much like your nose, always there, but you only see if when you actually look at it or something is wrong (such as it being bandaged). Sure, some people will say they'd have included it, but those are likely the same people who claim they could have done the site better... |
| #13whitebaronOct 03, 2009 6:32:08 |
i would not have included it as such - but the keeping of all functionality from the old BBCODE system, especially the custom tags, should be on that list. it's not just the sblock that's dearly missed, it's stuff like same applies here for wotc. a magic gamer is more likely to want to post a deck than upload a video or found a group. a dnd gamer is more likely to want to post a wall of text or a play-by-poster a large image in the thread instead of just in the wiki or gallery. |
| #14kratchOct 03, 2009 13:12:28 |
They have repeatedly stated that Sblocks and card tags are being worked on and are high priority. I find it rather underhanded to accuse them of something they have already made statements counter to |
| #15whitebaronOct 03, 2009 18:58:51 | ... you can find negativity where there is none... congrats. i did not say they do not listen to the communities' complaints (at least, sometimes they do if it seems important enough to do so), but i stated that they have not yet fully grasped how beautiful it would be to add even MORE of those tags than less (which is the current state.) it's a good guess that all they're gonna implement is stuff that was there before, and not so much make entirely new things. |

You must not have been around many sites or by some coincidence you never visted a vBulletin site. |
| #17calronmoonflowerOct 04, 2009 21:27:01 | I don't think that's a bug so much as a missed feature. That's another feature I've never seen used on another forum besides this one. I've been to several vBulletin sites and the old forum is the only one that I've seen a redirect link for a moved thread. However, I cannot be sure this is because they don't leave them or I didn't see them. It could also be because threads where simply not moved. So instead of you just asserting that this is isn't so rare, how about giving an example? |
| #18whitebaronOct 05, 2009 12:17:55 | leaving shadow links has been there in VBB at least since version 2 (they were using version 3, a lot newer than that). basically, everytime you move the thread, it would give you one of three options: - leave permanent redirect vbulletin basically leaves nothing to be desired and still costs a reasonable price, that's why i was so surprised to see this homebrew forums solution come up here. one of the fun things of VBB is that it supports custom BBCodes, so basically anything you want to create goes. The SBLOCK used in this forum was unique, but i have seen others like it around for quite some time. while this will give people a serious headache in these forums, implementing custom tags in vbulletin is a matter of minutes. a) decide what tag you want |
| #19lokiareOct 05, 2009 14:17:05 |
That's exactly my opinion. |
| #20drnickOct 08, 2009 19:03:03 | It could also be because threads where simply not moved. This is most likely the case. I have never been to a message board that was so anal about moving threads all over the place. |
