Are spoilers really that bad?

Jul 28, 2009 15:53:37 I've noticed with a few of the threads where players mention things from Divine Power, the mods are deleting/editing posts. I figured the more publicity, the better... right? Am I the only one who thinks WOTC is overreacting in regards to their intellectual property?

A sentence, a few sentences, even a paragraph, but at some point, it can become something of an entire book being posted. Years and years ago, in the 3e boards, someone started doing this with one of the environment books, I remember. Obviously, they were stopped, but...

Jul 28, 2009 20:28:50 I don't think it's an issue of spoilers, it's an issue of copyright. Wizards don't want the full text of powers and paragon paths up because if it happens enough times in enough places people can pretty much piece together the book for free.

It's a bit silly though. In D&D, the game IS the text, and if you can't discuss the text in detail on the Wizards boards it gets hard to discuss the game.

You can get down to the level of, "If I make a Cleric and use that new power - you know the one I'm talking about, wink, wink - then doesn't that cause problems in relation to the awesome level 17 daily? I think we all know what I'm saying here, nudge, nudge?"

Otherwise, If the mods deem it too much info, it's too much info. Period. Really....
