| #1PinkRoseMay 03, 2009 12:47:51 | Because if so, I want to state, without any pretense, that I am unhappy that pdfs of the 4e D&D books are not being sold. If not, then this thread can be locked without any explanation. But at least, unlike other threads, we'll know why it was locked. |
| #2fenrir7139May 03, 2009 13:09:43 | I dislike it as well; I bought a laptop for (among other things) being able to check rulebooks digitially, and now I can basically kiss that goodbye. |
| #3onceuponatimeMay 03, 2009 13:11:43 | Complaining is allowed but threads get derailed and then closed, or are just flame/troll bait and get closed. Also, this particular forum isn't the appropriate location for a thread complaining about the lack of PDF sales, try the Gen Discuss board). Your last thread got off track and has been talked about to no end in many other threads. See and respond to the multitude of other threads devoted to the this topic. |

| #5onceuponatimeMay 03, 2009 13:26:10 | Also, this particular forum isn't the appropriate location for a thread complaining about the lack of PDF sales. Fair enough and added to my post (sorry for stealing ;) ). |
| #6PinkRoseMay 03, 2009 13:40:02 | I don't want to derail my own thread, but how is what WotC is selling or not selling not community business?COMMUNITY BUSINESS: Discuss what's happening on the forums and other community business. |
| #7CCSMay 03, 2009 15:09:59 | I dislike it as well; I bought a laptop for (among other things) being able to check rulebooks digitially, and now I can basically kiss that goodbye. Lack of creativity..... |
| #8zombiegleemaxMay 03, 2009 15:36:03 | Because if so, I want to state, without any pretense, that I am unhappy that pdfs of the 4e D&D books are not being sold. 1) We are allowed. You are not till you get with the normal text colors. 2) Your text does not make you a special snowflake. It makes you hard to read and thus even EASIER to ignore. |
| #9on_the_wings_of_tpkMay 03, 2009 16:28:22 | 2) Your text does not make you a special snowflake. It makes you hard to read and thus even EASIER to ignore. So uh, why aren't you ignoring him/her/it then? @ the OP the PDF issue is not community business becuase it does not pertain to the forums. The cummunity business board is for things that are of direct interest to these forums. Things like the word filter, movement of threads, VCL business, and the like. Also the 4vengers like to come here to complain about the h4ters as well. |
| #10PinkRoseMay 03, 2009 17:14:08 | Ok, that's not what I understood the forum for. And I'm not the only one by the looks of other topics in this forum. But if a mod wants to move this to the correct forum, please do so, so that others can comment as well. |
| #11wrecanMay 03, 2009 18:05:27 | Complaints about having had your thread locked should be taken up with Customer Service, by clicking the "Contact Us" link below, not by starting a new thread about it. If this thread is locked, it could be because of that, and not necessarily about starting yet another thread about the .pdf policy, though that too could be the reason. |
| #12RUMPLESTIXMay 03, 2009 18:43:23 | So uh, why aren't you ignoring him/her/it then? But, I do not believe that having to do with the forums is a requirement. From the Community Business description: Discuss what's happening on the forums and other community business. This makes a point of including things other than the forums as being a part of Community Business. I do not think the podcast thread is a part of the forums is it? (Or, am I missing something. )My guess as to why the thread was shut down at the request of the VCL is this post for the derogatory manner in which it spoke of a specific employee of WotC. Often such threads will lead to such derogatory remarks being leveled at individuals. When it appears that the remarks are going to grow, that is a sign the topic needs to be shut down. |
| #13calronmoonflowerMay 03, 2009 21:04:15 | There has been a great deal of threads on the .PDF issue. Several where merged in one mega thread which needed to be lock to to length and then started. Then the thread was locked do to disruption. The thread on this board was closed per VCL request . This thread is appropriate for this board, but redundant as another exists for this topic. See this thread: http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=1180678 [edit] It seems that the thread was locked because the decision to open a new thread has not yet been made. The link I provided above is one one where you can make an argument for it. |
| #14ZherogMay 04, 2009 8:55:17 | Ok, that's not what I understood the forum for. And I'm not the only one by the looks of other topics in this forum. To clarify... This thread is in the right location. This thread is about the forums -- specifically whether or not something is a valid topic of discussion. The actual topic you wish to discuss, though, is not on-topic for this forum. |
| #15hansolo69May 04, 2009 18:27:38 | Ooooo! Ooooo! Oooooo!!! I know how to get a thread about the sale of PDF books locked!!.... When the D&D Creative Manager shows up in a thread leaving snarky replies to your calling out of WOTC over a poor business decision that is guaranteed to lose money... well, just leave a snarky reply to their snarky reply!!! Guaranteed thread closer!!! Woot!!!!! . . . . Oh yeah, I also dislike the lack of PDF sales. |
| #16cyberianhuskyMay 04, 2009 20:46:34 | You've said your bit - what else do you need to say? because if all youre doing is repeating that youre not happy until something is done to change that, then its not even complaining - its whining - and nobody likes a whiner. It certainly isnt discussion - you dont want to hear from anyone with an opposing viewpoint and you'll never admit that theres validity to anyone's opinion but your own. So no, I dont think this style of 'complaint' threads has a place anywhere on these boards, since they amount to little more than flame-bait in the end. |
| #17hansolo69May 05, 2009 14:09:42 | You've said your bit - what else do you need to say? because if all youre doing is repeating that youre not happy until something is done to change that, then its not even complaining - its whining - and nobody likes a whiner. Consider this then: WOTC is billing 4e DND as "fan owned", saying that they actually listen to what the players want. If the fans that dislike the removal of PDF sales, such as myself and others, just walk away and let WOTC forget our displeasure it allows them to claim they are meeting their mantra of "fan owned" for 4e. Clearly they aren't following the statement they made concerning "fan owned", and given that WOTC has a *LONG* history of ignoring the fans of the games they make... well, I hope you can understand that this isn't whining and more like dogged determination to not let WOTC walk away from this issue. I appreciate and understand that you may have an opposing view, or may not care about this issue at all, but there are plenty of us that are just as determined not to let WOTC slide on this particular issue. |
| #18wrecanMay 05, 2009 14:57:33 | Could I have a cite for this concept that D&D is "fan owned"? I've never seen a developer say such a thing, except perhaps back in the 3rd edition days when the 3.0 SRD was released. |
| #19_Mithreinmaethor_May 05, 2009 15:25:27 | There is a difference between stating your displeasure and posting over and over and over and over and over and over again about it. That moves it from making a statement to throwing a tantrum and whining. |
| #20WebsterMay 05, 2009 21:11:01 | While it can be annoying to see the same complaint over and over again, it is a valid issue. I'm still trying to figure out how to re-open (Probably re-start) the thread without it becoming a trap for people to violate the CoC. (Supporting illegal activities in addtion to flaming/baiting.) |
| #21stormonuMay 07, 2009 0:21:54 | Instead of in the general forum, perhaps a thread on PDFs should be in the digital forum? Mayhaps it will reduce the trolling if it isn't in the "troll trap" area. Besides, it is mostly a digital/electronic issue. P.S: My issue is not only that they are not available, but the pricetag of the PDFs prior to their being pulled. |
| #22stormonuMay 07, 2009 0:35:56 | While it can be annoying to see the same complaint over and over again, it is a valid issue. The previous two threads seemed to be start well; it's appears to be when the thread gets a bit long in the tooth and it's a dead horse being vapidly beat on - to the point the only thing left for the posters to do is to turn on one another or carpet bomb (threadcrap?) the thread. Personally, I'd say open another thread on PDF's and watch it closely once its hits, say, 7 pages or more. I think by then people aren't reading the previous comments and just venting/reflexively posting. If the problem restarts, lock it and let the flamers cool their heels a couple days, and start up a new thread with a disclaimer/warning as the first post. I'd really hate to see a topic that people really have a strong opinion on be shut down because a small group of short-tempered people won't play by the rules. |
| #23lazzoMay 07, 2009 6:24:48 | Anyone can still get the pdf if they want, you just can't pay for them. It's a baffling descision really. |
| #24ChemicalpoetMay 07, 2009 9:01:53 | From a business standpoint, I can easily see why they would prohibit make and sale of .PDF's. They are pirate bait, and it's extra resource juggling. However, I can't just simply digress the fact that the .PDF format is one of the most proactive ways of evolving the book-based game medium. Especially something as prolific as DnD. So, my resolve? Make them anyway; the players want them. If my prediction holds true and piracy is the abiding factor, they haven't held you guys back from making books since the 70's, have they? |
