Yes, someone told me the character opt board was headed her, but I didn't realize that *all* the d20 sub-forums were about to join Gleemax. Come on guys, you say Gleemax is for all gamers and then you do this? 20+ forums for d20 and 0 for Palladium, White Wolf, GURPS, d6, Hero, CODA, or True20..

Don't worry. I have a solution that doesn't involve adding a bunch of forums or getting rid of the existing ones.

You take the name of each sub-forum and get rid of the d20 part.
d20 Future -> Futuristic Campaigns
d20 Past -> Historical Campaigns
d20 Modern -> Modern Campaigns
d20 Character Development -> Character Development

Sweet idea, no?

Yes, just remove the d20s and you have all the forums you would need to discuss all gaming systems. This is a very good idea.

It's partially a good idea. But please don't hose the d20 Modern community any further; they've already lost their community by having it merged here. At some point in the future, they'll lose several of their forums once Mike starts merging and deleting. Now this plan is completely taking away what was once their home.

Also, the plans for the Character Optimization forum, I believe, call for four forums which includes a non-D&D forum for other games.

Pretty soon all of the boards here will be consolidated or deleted. Gamer_Zer0 chose a plan that eliminates all of the thinktanks. I had presented a solution that consolidated them into just 2, but I guess they aren't worth it. The d20 has very little to do with the discussions and could easily be removed.

d20 Modern however is a specific game which somehow got wrapped up in the d20 Design area with a plan to combine the two. Not sure how that happened, but anywho...

Dropping the "d20" from the title isn't really necessary since they are going to go away soon.

Check out the original thread hereand weigh in here.

Ahhhh.

You see, I miss all these discussions because I don't expect future Gleemax board business to appear on the Wiz.COM community sites. I think the relevent post is here, and I approve.

My thoughts…

Keep:
RPGs General Discussion
Community Business
As the Die Rolls (off-topic discussions)
Rules Counseling
Do It Yourself (House Rules)
d20 modern
Character Optimization
Character Development

Change:
d20 future, science-fiction, and cyberspace could all become -> Science Fiction Campaigns
d20 past and d20 historical -> Historical Campaigns
d20 modern -> Modern Day Campaigns
d20 Fantasy -> Fantasy Campaigns
d20 horror -> Horror Campaigns

Remove:
D20 general
Urban Arcana
D20 Apocalypse
D20 Anime
D20 Design General
Playing With Everything
D20 Videogames

I’m uncertain of:
d20 Theoretical Optimization

I’m not sure we need two character opt boards. If one is DnD only, then why not put it in the DnD section?

Possible Add?:
Create a System
It might be better to just make Do It Yourself (House Rules and Game System creation)

You have d20 Modern in both "Keep" and "change" on your lists.

Please keep it. The game needs a home.

Here's what I suggested a few weeks ago:

Other RPGs
---RPG Community Business --formerly d20 General but will also serve as a GSL Info forum
---As the Die Rolls --The off topic board for this section of boards
d20 Modern
---d20 Modern (general modern boards- includes Urban Arcana, Shadow Chasers, Dark*Matter)
---d20 Past & Future[/INDENT]
RPG Enhancement Could be linked to in both the DnD and Star Wars' areas
---Character Optimization: 4th edition -- The CharOp board recieves far too many threads as it stands now and needs a split. Sectioning off 4e should do the trick.
---Character Optimization: Other --The current CharOp board left relatively untouched, though other games would be posted here as well-- Star Wars, D20 Modern, etc.
---Theoretical Optimization The "Rules As Written" Optimization forum.
---Rules Counseling --for both DM Rules Counseling as well as many rules discussions found on CharOp
---Character Development
RPG Experiments
---House Rules and Rules Variants
---Campaign Workshop -- will include Playing With Everything threads
---When Inspiration Strikes - to take the place of all of the current thinktanks (changed the name to not be confused with digital gaming)
---Setting the Mood -- to take the place of the Horror Board, some of the Mature Board, the d20 For Grins board as well as general threads about creating a specific mood or style of gameplay, either through description, environment, or campaign. Will include the many Call of Cthulhu threads that are found current on the Horror board.

This is based on what the d20 Modern and Design community wanted in several threads on the matter.

The CharOp and CharOp: Other boards could be combined, especially since the RPG section will be for all RPGs. I'd love theoretical to stay separate, but we've accepted that it will get thrown into the mix.

My big piece is that the current plan presented by G0 eliminates all of the thinktanks-- it doesn't combine them, it eliminates them. That's a large community (especially the horror boards) that will have nowhere for their threads.

I do want to keep it, but I there are several non-d20 RPGs set in modern day so I also want a modern day forum. And it was very, very late last night when I typed this out.

Autumn,
While I like your break down, you've made several sub-forum d20 only: Rule Counceling, Character-Opt (Other), and Character Development.

I don't see the need for three different forum (Other RPG, d20 Modern, and RPG Experiments). Just keep the RPG forum, and everything else as sub-fora as it is now.

---RPG Community Business
---As the Die Rolls
---d20 Modern
---d20 Past & Future
---Character Optimization: 4th edition (This will live in the 4E Forums)
---Character Optimization: (All but 4E)
---Theoretical Optimization
---Rules Counseling
---Character Development
---House Rules and Rules Variants
---Campaign Workshop --
---When Inspiration Strikes -
---Setting the Mood --

Those sound reasonable. Where would people talk about: Traveller, World of Darkness, Gamma World, or Flashing Blades?

I swear there was a 'RPGs General Discussion' when this started. That's where the White-Wolf, Palladum, ICON systems are talked about now. At this point, I don't think there's enough interest to create separate fora for each of those lines.

I think you start with one forum that is for non-WotC RPGs. Thus it won't be overwhelmed with d20/4E discussions. Eventually, if demand ever warranted it, you could break this up into Science Fiction RPGs, Historical RPGs, Modern RPGs, Fantasy RPGs, and Horror RPGs. But starting out all you need is one forum. As for a name...my mind is frozen on this at the moment.

I do have a question on the above organization. How is When Inspiration Strikes (which is great name) different from House Rules & Rules Variants? I get that WIS encompasses the think tanks, but doesn't House Rules & Rules Variants cover this as well. I mean should WIS replace House Rules & Rules Variants.

Yes, we do need a RPG, non d20 section. It's there now, just didn't repost it. How about:

---RPG Community Business
---As the Die Rolls
---RPG General (All but D&D and d20)
---OGL/GSLThis was in the other breakout too and I Think it warrants an area. It could go in with RPG Community Business though if we had to.
---d20 Modern
---d20 Past & Future
---Character Optimization: 4th edition (This will live in the 4E Forums)
---Character Optimization: (All but 4E)
---Theoretical Optimization (If we have to cut one, combine this one with the non 4e charop)
---Rules Counseling
---Character Development
---House Rules and Rules Variants
---Campaign Workshop --
---When Inspiration Strikes -
---Setting the Mood

I think you start with one forum that is for non-WotC RPGs.

Agreed. We definitely need a spot for all of the other game talk.

I see them as pretty different. One is taking rules and changing them for your game- in this case, any game. Create a sanity system for D&D or make Serenity d20. In other words, this is specifics to the system, the ruleset.

WIS is system neutral for the most part. It's about the setting. Similar to above, it would be taking characters, plots, BBEGs, monsters, etc from movies, TV, books, videogames, historical lore, etc. As it stands now, sometimes people stat out things for a specific game. For example, there was a thread making the characters from Firefly into d20 characters. What will be cool about the RPG area now is that when someone says "You know, they'd work better in the Traveler System", someone else could stat them using those rules.

Then Setting the Mood is ways to bring a specific style of gameplay to the table. The one I'm thinking will be most popular will be Horror. The Horror Thinktank is the most popular of the thinktanks and has amazing resources for ways to make your game, whatever it is, more creepy. Some of the evil based threads from the Mature board could live here easily. I see topics here like "How do I make an arch nemesis for my players that they truly despise?" or "Know any good background music to play to set the creepy mood?"

The "For Grins" type topics could live here too. How do you lighten up the mood or make your players (or DM) laugh? If I want to make a character based on Fry from Futurama, what ticks and characteristic traits could I have that would set the mood?

I think the possibilities are endless and there is bound to be much we haven't even thought of.

---OGL/GSLThis was in the other breakout too and I Think it warrants an area. It could go in with RPG Community Business though if we had to.

Could we actually make this an even broader area, and have it cover any chatter about other licenses that exist out there? For example, there's the True20 License from Green Ronin; and there's that license that mimics the rules for 1e/2e whose name I forget; and I'm sure there's others.

I think having a place to talk about the OGL and GSL is spiffy; I'm just wondering if the purpose of the forum couldn't be expanded a little to cast its net over a few other related areas.

You take the name of each sub-forum and get rid of the d20 part.
d20 Future -> Futuristic Campaigns
d20 Past -> Historical Campaigns
d20 Modern -> Modern Campaigns

d20 MODERN is a WoC product line,
a WoC different game with several woc books,
it is not gurps/anime/ww in todays setting. To continue this path would allow for me to suggest "fantasy" gurps/anime/ww/palaidum be allowed into the Dungeons&Dragons product line area.

When talking about "d20Modern", please keep in mind a better reference to it would be "WoC Modern" as opposed to thinking it is any BESM/gurps set in todays world.
"d20 modern-setting" is D&D with guns, or anime/gurps/paladium/besm
WoC Modern ("d20 Modern" game books by woc) is not that.

Why they pulled the sub-boards for WoC modern out & put them equal to the core game... I dont know. If you wanted D&D Monster info, would you look in RPGs:d20Monsters or would you look in D&D:Monsters. That is the level of layout we have now, they took the WoC Modern: Future and pulled it out like some kind of Gurps/paladium/anime chat room about playing in the future.

It is annoying that what we do now is like going to the D&D board, but have to back out of D&D to get to "Complete D&D-Ninja" board or "Unearthed D&D-Nitpicks". Those obviously should be SubBoards of D&D, just as WoCFuture is a subboard of the WoCModern game

D20 modern must have its own forum.
I can deal with loosing the subforums.
But there must be a d20 modern forum that is exclusively for d20 modern.

The merger with d20 general has some of, if not all, of the most prolific posters in d20 modern fleeing like rats from a sinking ship.
