#1 Lizard_SF Sep 08, 2009 12:42:14	First, let me say this is one of the most poorly designed boards I've seen in quite literally two decades of using online services, going back to CI$ on 1200 baud dialup for $12.95/hour. Finding the forum preferences was nigh-impossible -- why isn't it part of the basic Profile information? Why is the signature editor just a blank text box with no editing tools, forcing you to hand-code your own HTML? Etc, etc, etc? Second, despite all my efforts, I cannot find a way to auto-subscribe to any thread I either start or post in, a pretty common feature of most board software. Maybe it's there and I'm missing it, I dunno, but I'd like to be able to turn it on, please. As it is, now, I will need to post this, then enter it again to subscribe to it in order to see if anyone has responded. ("Manage Subscriptions", nicely hidden in a locked filing cabinet in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door reading 'Beware of the Displacer Beast', will let me UNsubscribe, but not set a global preference.) Please, WOTC, concentrate on building solid functionality first and throwing in "community tools" second. You cannot have a community if no one can use the forums productively. Given that Hasbro's money is behind these boards, it should be deeply shameful that fan-supported, semi-pro efforts like RPG.net and ENWorld have much more robust and full-featured software.

#3 SVNBob Sep 08, 2009 15:41:09	It's not necessarily a subscription, but there is a check box just above the Submit button on the Post Reply page that says "Notify me of new messages posted to this thread".  I assume checking that then sends notification ala the subscription feature.  subscribes you to the thread

Like maybe through your private message cue, or a virtual pop-up (window inside the browser not external) that showed all the newest one, but that would be clever, and WotC can't seem to pull off clever.

Nope, it doesn't. It shows the threads you subscribed to and in the order you subscribed. So basically it is inferior to the old forums.

Whereas the old forums were of actual release and not beta. As a software developer I find it offensive that people are throwing around the word beta in the way they are. This is not a beta, this is better described as a work in progess. Also the old forums did show in the order of posting and when you posted, and I even think you could mouse over and see what the new post was.
