If you're anti-4e being a troll is a good and easy way to make everyone with half a brain loose any interest in your point of view.![]() |
| #2PangurJun 24, 2008 11:55:02 | Can we please end this new trend of "trolling/baiting/flaming is bad, mkay?" posts here and now? Honestly, people know this. Posting it over and over again is not going to stop them if they decide to anyway. And I'm getting the impression that some people (not all) are trying to use threads like these as some sort of pre-emptively faked "I'm not a troll as you can see from me being so vocally against trolling" alibi to wave around when called on for trolling in some (too thinly) veiled fashion, or worse to somehow use as a threat to dissuade anyone from dissenting with their opinion (disagree with me and I'll sic the mods on you). Commie witch hunts should be a thing of the past. |
| #3theanthrodmJun 24, 2008 12:08:40 | Well the mods generally don't do anything, so I don't think anyone is scared when someone sick the mods on them, it's like saying "Disagree with me and I'll send my 20 year old chihuahua who is dying from bone cancer on you!" It's not something your afraid of, it's this little thing that's kind of cute and you feel sorry for. In any case you completely missed the point of this thread. |
| #4PangurJun 24, 2008 12:34:56 | In any case you completely missed the point of this thread. Sorry, but if the point of this thread is to state that trolling is a bad way to show your opinion I think you completely missed the point of what trolling is. No offense. :P |

| #7jimtricheJun 24, 2008 21:02:13 | The question is what defines a troll. Most of the people on this forum define a troll as "Anyone who doesn't agree with me". I've about had it. If sitting on this forum has taught me anything over the last few months, it's that the results of 4E were exactly as I feared. The fanbase has gotten more ignorant, childish, and immature. You guys have given me plenty of food for thought. I will be supporting Paizo, Wizkids, Fanpro, Studio 2, West End Games and other publishers that actually know how to make a decent RPG and have a decent player base. I encourage anyone who appreciates quality over crap to do the same. |
| #8thecasualoblivionJun 24, 2008 21:19:47 | The question is what defines a troll. Personally, I think I am just as ignorant, childish, and immature as I was last December. Maybe a little less, to be honest. Personally, I don't really see the logic in your post though. WotC is the industry leader, and I don't think they would have published 4E if they didn't think it would appeal to a large audience. That being said, they are smart people and must have had some idea of the ****-storm they would be launching with this change. That being said, there are a large number of people on these forums, which are WotC's forums for 4E, who actually like the game. IMO, I would call this a majority of the people here. You post your opinions in this place, populated by WotC fans and 4E players, and talk about how much this game sucks? Do you really expect to make friends here? Are you so stuck in your own little world to think that a game released by the industry leader isn't going to appeal to a large number of people? So you call people actually playing the game in the title of the forums ignorant, childish and immature on your way out the door. There is a cliche about something the door does to you as you pass by it. I think you know what it is. |

How does one even self justify this? Excoriating people for calling out trolls, citing that it's only a matter of disagreement, then saying the above about people that enjoy something you don't? |
| #10lord_karsusJun 24, 2008 23:09:17 | Well the mods generally don't do anything, so I don't think anyone is scared when someone sick the mods on them, it's like saying "Disagree with me and I'll send my 20 year old chihuahua who is dying from bone cancer on you!" It's not something your afraid of, it's this little thing that's kind of cute and you feel sorry for. -Unfortunately, I agree. WizOs and CustServ do often do things, like edit/erase posts but nothing is followed up, it seems. Someone who violates the CoC is seemingly given the little slap on the wrist, and all is forgotten, until the next problem. |

Does the comment still apply is you Disagree with every WizO's inaction, because I'd be happy to overload your mailboxes and bandwidth with complaints if so. :D |
| #13strudel_lumpycakesJun 25, 2008 3:35:58 | The question is what defines a troll. I find that it's not the "ignorant, anime kid, newbs" who have turned the boards into such an acrid wasteland of spite. It's the people who have been posting on here for years. Whenever a thread I was enjoying devolves into "my edition's pEEnor iz bigger than thou's" I can't help but notice the same names popping up again and again. It's a battle between 50 or so really spiteful posters who's bloody battle hops from thread to thread, leaving nothing but anger and resentment in their wake. The newbs are pretty much the same as ever- somewhat clueless, and posting with lots of :D :D .However, on a lighter note, whether or not you support 4E, I would strongly recommend looking into some RPGs by lesser known publishers. Even if you think Dungeons and Dragons is an absolute flawless, peerless, masterpiece, you can't eat steak every day of the week. Try out some new flavors. |
| #14mortredJun 25, 2008 7:14:49 | So you are saying that the rest of the picture is accurate, particularly the text? Wait, what? |
| #15rainkissJun 25, 2008 8:05:27 | The question is what defines a troll. Actually, you can't blame any perceived devolution in the fanbase on 4e. (I'll get to my own perception of the posters on these forums in a sec.) 4e hasn't actually been around long enough to bring in many new posters, you're looking at the same old fans that have been here. Sure, some of us (yep, I'm new here, myself) found the site due to the new edition, but, quite honestly, I was playing D&D before some posters on these forums were even born. Me, I've got no problem with people who decide they liked 3.5 better, or 3.0, or 2nd edition. Heck, the current campaign I'm playing in is 2nd edition. I'm honestly confused by the attitude some posters have that the entire world MUST share their own edition preferences, and that seem to want to ram those preferences down the throats of the rest of us with a stick. All you really need to have a good time is a good group of friends, and a game system. It doesn't have to be good. Heck, one of the best running games we had was a tiny little game called Teenagers from Outer Space, we played it for about a half-hour after our high-tension D&D game sessions to unwind, and we had a ball. If you want to get together and play D&D, great. Play whichever edition you like, enjoy what you enjoy. Just don't come here and dump all over what some other people here enjoy. |
| #16trailfootJun 25, 2008 19:06:58 | If you disagree with a WizO's action, please go to http://www.wizards.com/customerservice to file a complaint. See this? EVERYONE DO IT. Tell CS exactly what we think of the situation here - notably in the Forgotten Realms boards and D&D General. Fill their inboxes with complaints about it, until we start seeing actual action. They've hamstrung the WizOs. They need to step up, and we need to let them know that. |

Fill their inboxes with complaints about it, until we start seeing actual action. -Of course, concerning the Forgotten Realms section, there is very little actual trolling by the majority of contributors, as opposed to disagreements, which are perfectly fine and valid, so long as they don't escalate into flame wars, which most of the time, they don't. |

You can review the Code of Conduct here: http://forums.gleemax.com/community_coc.php I thought this thread was baiting. What exactly are we discussing in this pointless thread? It is common knowledge that being a troll is unacceptable. Aren't there at least one or two other threads on this page ,basically having the same discussion? It is clutter. |
| #20apollyonschosenJun 25, 2008 23:04:07 | double post |

That being said, they are smart people and must have had some idea of the ****-storm they would be launching with this change. Yeah that's why the online tools work so well, also. I can see the planning and foresight in both cases. EDIT: No, actually, I can't. |
