#1 gideonpepys Aug 28, 2009 7:21:17	Alot of people put alot of work into creating invaluable build guides on the Character Optimization forum.  I often suggested these guides to new players, as the amount of choice in 4E can be overwhelming. Now, however, they are practically unreadable and completely unnavigable. Can somebody please tell me if the mess caused by the migration will be sorted out? Before you get started - I'd love a response from the moderators, but those of you who make a hobby of pouncing on anyone who criticises WotC and flaming them to death, do me a small favour and give me a break.  All I'm asking for is an answer as to whether my favourite pages on these forums have been wrecked beyond repair, or whether this is just a 'teething problem' which will be sorted out in time.

#4 Balthanon Aug 28, 2009 7:34:38	I managed to recover some of my threads from Google cache for the archives, unfortunately I was only able to get page 1 of 5 out of a 1000 post thread.  For most of the handbooks and guides, that should be enough though. I'm crossing my fingers that they remedy some of this though-- most of the big things have been reported on the bugs and feature boards.  Whether the developers can respond quicklky is another issue.
#5 Gnorman Aug 28, 2009 7:36:19	Amen. As a guide writer myself (not to mention a frequent reader), this whole formatting and archival loss problem is my number one concern. I'd even put up with double spaces if it was addressed.
#6 Nifft Aug 28, 2009 7:39:21	Worst case scenario: EN World supports BBCode, and it's a generally 4e-friendly place. They have a wiki, too, but I haven't personally used it much. Cheers, -- N
#7 kilpatds Aug 28, 2009 8:45:14	I have to say, the idea of a wiki for the guides ... gives me pause.  I think I'd rather they had clear owners (so confluence: fine.  MediaWiki where the admins are away: less so).  I also have had issues getting resonable formatting out of the Wiki.. Wikis typically have different formatting codes as well.  Which means the pain level is just about as high to move to a Wiki as to move to the new forums.  (Ok, not quite as high, because the new forums don't have a reasonable formatting code at all..) I've been working on my handbook in ye-olde text editor, rather than on the forums directly.  So I still have it.  But it's going to be a pain to make look reasonable until the BBCode support gets better.
#8 GelatinousOctahedron Aug 28, 2009 9:04:12	I made sure to save my work at least before they did the forum switch and I am perfectly willing to create a new one if I need to or to reformat it with HTML.  I have used HTML before, but it has been years since I have used it much so if anyone knows a way to duplicate the effect of sblock let me know. My cleric guide is fairly new so it only has around 70 comments, but I need to be able to format it in a way that hides text.  It is around 47 pages of text MS Word so far and that is not counting comments or the stuff that I am ready to add to it.
#9 telvin3d Aug 28, 2009 9:05:18	Once things settle down a little, I suspect that it might be possible for someone more tecnicaly experienced to put togeather a script to actomaticly convert BB code guides to the equivilant Wiki or HTML code. The BB code seems to be intact in the threads I looked at.

The color codes are intact, as are bold and I'd assume italic (I think they're doing a display filter for those).  But nothing that requires state is... so no lists.  Quotes changed (It's not [ quote=source, it's got specific author, post tags now.). Sblocks are going to require support from the forum, because they rely on Javascript to change a div's properties.  And if the forum allows me to insert java script, that's a bigger bug than anything else anyone's talking about.
