There has been a lot of mentioning in this subforum about using CS and how fast they respond.

Well, I submitted a query on 28 Dec 2008 at 21:38 eastern time in the US, or 18:38 in Seattle.

I put a two part update in on 3 Jan 2009

Of course, the offices were closed for the holidays and didn't open back up until 5 Jan 2009, so I wasn't expecting it real soon.

Well, on 13 Jan 2009 at 21:07 eastern time, sixteen days after submittal and eight days after the offices reopened, I decided to resubmit my query since I had received nothing whatsoever other than my automated response.

Three working days later, I have received only the automated response.

So, I figured I could start this thread for kicks. I will keep changing the title to keep track of how long I am waiting for a response. Just in case someone out there in the forums may actually care.

If you have any comments feel free to add them, but please be respectful. And in advance, I will not reveal the nature of my queries other than to say it is not about poster (mis)conduct.

So, how accurate are the promises of two day turn around? Does that only work for certain people? I guess time will tell.

Edit Note: I just matched up a couple things and concluded that the times given on the questions part of the 'my stuff' tab at CS are given Pacific time.

I can see that this would bother you, but making a thread like this just seems... petty.

Well, if I have an answer after a total of five working days (an entire work) since resubmission, it's no big deal.

But, if after more than that, the number of days keeps going up, just exactly what options do I have?
Call on the phone?
Why should I think I would get a different response?
Resubmit again with an angry response?

The point is that I have seen previous posts where people complained nothing was done which were responded to by various ORCs and VCLs saying something to the effect of 'that was difficult to believe and not their experience.'

But, if it doesn't work for the community at large, I believe people should have a right t know.

To go further, this thread is attacked in a condescending fashion when it is merely meant as an entertaining outlet for annoyance that does not flame anyone.
I am not passing judgment (yet). I have not said anyone is incompetent or anything like that. If my OP appears that way, it was not intended. I even mentioned that the first submission was over the holiday closing, but I will go ahead and add now that the closing was extended due to weather but add the caveat that online work could still be done.

So, yes, it is kind of petty. But, big deal. I am just trying to have a little fun with it while I am waiting.

Depending on what you submitted they might not have responded. I had this happen once.
Another possibility is that it got caught in a junk mail filter.

Try this, go to Customer Service. Then click "My Stuff", then click "Questions". This should tell you if they bothered to respond or not. If they did click on that question to see the response.

Here's a page with customer service's phone number and an snail mail address if that doesn't help.

I received the automated response for my original question and for my resubmission 16 days later.
I have the wizards CS page in my favorites.
I know the 'my stuff' and 'questions' routine by heart because I have done it at least once per day for 20 straight days now.

Note: I added two updates to my original question. Although it was not my intent, in retrospect it seems that those updates should have bumped the question back to the top if for no other than to allow a reassessment to see if it needed a higher priority.

Both questions still say unresolved.
I can understand having difficulty with a problem, I just believe I should receive something to let me know whether or not they are even giving me the time of day.

I don't see it in the system currently. When you reply, it does bounce back to CS. (I'm on right now if you want to re-send it. Or I can check if you give me the ticket number.)

Did you send it in the right queue? Sometimes people don't select the right field and it gets sent elsewhere.

And, it may not be something that needs a reply. For example, CS doesn't get into rule fights with people. We answer questions, not debate the rules.

Also, if it's about another member to see if they got warnings, we're not likely to respond directly as well.

Oh, and the original submission before my signature was ended with this:

Please respond soon and explain to me the policies on the matter and any decisions to be made.

Oh, and about not responding to questions about warnings, etc.,

this is a part of the OP:

I will not reveal the nature of my queries other than to say it is not about poster (mis)conduct.

so it has nothing to do with whether or not posters got warnings or not.

It is official, CS is worthless.

I checked my questions in the CS file and the first submission was solved!

But when I read it, this is what it said:

Thank you for your efforts to make our online Wizards Communities, safe and fun environments for everyone. We have received your Code of Conduct violation report. We will investigate the issue and take appropriate action.

We will not reply to this message unless additional information is required.

Thank you for your help.

Now, what does that mean?

First:

We have received your Code of Conduct violation report.

I did not submit a code of conduct violation report. I did not select that option when submitting my question.

Further, just in case any doubt existed, I stated the following in my submission:

2. I have a wish that no posters have any trouble with this.

But, to take it a step further, the response stated this:

We will investigate the issue and take appropriate action.

If CS interpreted the submission as a COC problem, how can my submission be solved before it has been investigated?

But, that is not the worst. There was one and only one thing that my submission asked for:

Please respond soon and explain to me the policies on the matter and any decisions to be made

Nowhere in the response was my question answered.

So, someone out there please explain to me how my submission was solved?

Just signing a ticket saying a submission is solved is not solving it.

WTF?

updated total in thread title.

Total Days 7
working Days 5

They 'solved' the question of my first submission by not answering my question or even acknowledging that it existed.

Since my resubmission is still active, I updated it with my question in hopes of actually having it answered. The day count has been for the resubmission all along. The first submission was 16 days earlier.

So, it took 23 days to receive a response telling me than my question was solved even though my question was not answered.

So, all those who have championed using CS to solve problems, what do you have to say for CS with regards to this?

(Yes, I am quite irritated at the moment. )

You have the right to be irritated. Since I'm only hearing one side of the story, I have no idea what it is you asked them to consider. I'm sorry that CS isn't handling this the way you would like.

I will still recommend people submit issues to CS for two reasons:
1) There's no other way to get certain problems resolved.
2) At most, your problem is an isolated issue. Until I hear of this sort of thing being widespread, I will continue to give them the benefit of the doubt.

There is one complaint in the problematic poster guide stickied to the top of the page. (Note: The complaint is different from mine, but it is a complaint nonetheless.)

It is [post=17503881]here[/post].

I have seen several others in this very subforum but the CB gets 'cleaned' fairly often or I would look them up and post them. The last thread on page two had a last post date of 27 days prior.

In fact, I have seen threads complaining about CS not being help before if my memory serves me correctly.

So, where do I go to find archived threads so that I can reference them to show that my complaint about CS is not isolated?

As a reminder, from the OP:

The point is that I have seen previous posts where people complained nothing was done which were responded to by various ORCs and VCLs saying something to the effect of 'that was difficult to believe and not their experience.'

I didn't imagine this. My incident is not isolated.

Fair, but more to the point, if I ask a question and they don't seem to even realize that I asked one and tell me that my problem is solved, what recourse do I have?

Perhaps reword your question to make it more understandable to the CS people.

Of course none of us have any idea what it is you have sent to CS so can not truly give much advice.

I have sent several questions to CS and have had them resolved or passed on to game designers within a day or two.

I have sent several questions to CS and have had them resolved or passed on to game designers within a day or two.

I have explained some of this, but I will repeat.

This is the response I received:

Thank you for your efforts to make our online Wizards Communities, safe and fun environments for everyone. We have received your Code of Conduct violation report. We will investigate the issue and take appropriate action.

We will not reply to this message unless additional information is required.

Thank you for your help.

First:

We have received your Code of Conduct violation report.

I did not submit a Code of Conduct violation report. I did not select that option when submitting my question.

Further, just in case any doubt existed, I stated the following in my submission (part of an enumerated list of notes at the end):

2. I have a wish that no posters have any trouble with this...

Just exactly how much clearer could I make it that it was not a conduct report?

But, to go further:

We will investigate the issue and take appropriate action.

If CS interpreted the submission as a COC problem, how can my submission be solved before it has been investigated?

In other words, I don't see how my rewording of my question will change that they have told me they have not yet investigated the situation in the response where they tell me the situation is solved.

Sorry about being vague, but in my submission I described a situation and finished by saying this directly above my name at the end of the original submission:

Please respond soon and explain to me the policies on the matter and any decisions to be made

I can't think of how to reword 'explain to me the policies on the matter' that would be easier to understand. There is no way that can be misconstrued as 'I am making a conduct report'.

On the off chance the agent could not understand, why not email me and ask me?

I'm not sure what you mean by this. I think you're saying old threads get deleted. And if so, that's not correct. They do, however, get filtered. You can change the filter settings, though.

Either at the very top or very bottom of the forum (depending on your user settings) is a box labeled "Display Options." The left most section of that area contains the thread filters, which defaults to the most recent 30 days worth of threads. You can alter that criteria via the drop-down box, then press the "show threads" button to see more.

If you meant something else, ignore this. ;)

Thanks Zherog.

At least I am good for everyone's enterainment in one form or another, not to mention that I learned something.

Anyway, I have a couple of questions that I am hoping to get answered here.

1.) OK, CS treated my submission as a conduct report. Is it normal for CS to send a 'solved' response before they investigate conduct reports? (That is what they did, unless they sent the response effectively closing the 'discussion thread' separate from the 'solved' response in the 'my stuff' tab. Both were already there when I checked yesterday.)

2.) The email response I received had an extra bit that was not in the 'discussion thread' in my questions area of CS. It said the following:

If this issue is not resolved to your satisfaction, you may reopen it within the next 14 days.

Well, my resubmission question was still unresolved, so I just updated it.
But...

The pupose of this thread is to count the days until I receive a response to my resubmission.

The total is now at 8 days, 6 of them work days.

WTF?

What do I have to do to get this 'discussion thread' question submitted to CS responded to?

Since 8 days (6 of them working) is well past the 'typical' two day response, why am I being ignored by CS? (To explain, why not answer both? They were the same question. The second was still well over the 'typical' two day period. It is as if they both disappeared until ORC Paradox pointed one out to them and they only saw that one. But, I am rambling now...)

To those who still believe CS is the proper route, what do you suggest I do next?

I don't have any actual experience with Wotc CS, but I do work a helpdesk. It's possible that they sent you the 'solved' response because the ticket was misinterpreted as a CoC violation. If so, the issue is 'solved' on the user end because CS will handle the issue from that point only contacting the user as neccessary. IMO this would basically be a matter of convienance for CS to insure that customers don't constantly ask for updates on open tickets. I know at my helpdesk, we don't mark a ticket resolved until all work is completed and the end user is satisfied, but I work in a completely different enviroment than Wotc (IE I don't answer to customers, just other employees). As to why your submission was misinterpreted as a CoC violation ticket in the first place, I haven't a clue. I could speculate that the person who read the ticket only skimmed it and missed what you tried to say but that's pure speculation.

At this point I recommend two things:
Reword your original submission to be more clear and resubmit. However, without knowing the nature of your issue it's impossible to know if this would be helpful.
Contact a VCL and request their assistance. Since they have more lines of communication to CS than the average user you might get further with a VCL's help.

I'll fully admit though, that after the years I've spent on these boards and some of the posts I've seen, I don't have a whole lot of faith in Wotc CS. I think they generally do the best they can, and they're only human, but I think there might be some sort of flaw in their system that lets things slip through the cracks or leads to innapropriate resolutions.

That is my guess but I put the question out there for affirmation.

As to why your submission was misinterpreted as a CoC violation ticket in the first place, I haven't a clue. I could speculate that the person who read the ticket only skimmed it and missed what you tried to say but that's pure speculation.

That is my guess also. My problem is that if I am left hanging three weeks for a result that should be expected in two days, I deserve for someone to actually read the entire ticket. The very nature of many of the complaints CS receives has to do with forum posting. If you cannot expect someone paid by CS to examine tickets regarding forums and posts to actually read a ticket in its entirety, then CS is worthless in my opinion. Reading any ticket, much less one about forums and posts (how often have you seen misunderstandings occur because someone haphazardly read a post?), is crucial to such a job.

Actually, I can even blow that mistake off by itself. However, I have gone through too many steps.

About this:

Reword your original submission to be more clear and resubmit. However, without knowing the nature of your issue it's impossible to know if this would be helpful.

Been there. Done that.
I reworded it but added it as an update to my resubmission. (I do not know whether you read the entire thread or not. My question has been submitted twice. One, but not both have been answered. The resubmission was eight days ago and answers are typically in two days.)

About this:

Contact a VCL and request their assistance. Since they have more lines of communication to CS than the average user you might get further with a VCL's help.

I did receive help from ORC Paradox. I believe that resulted in my first ticket being 'solved'.

You can change your default in your user settings.

My Account -> Edit My Thread Viewing Options

In the third box, labeled "Thread Display Options," is an option named "Default Thread Age Cut Off." This option has a drop down list, with the default value of 30 days. There's numerous other options available, and that will change your default.

Now, that said... threads are moved off the active forum and to the archive. I think the cutoff for that is threads that have had no activity for six months. (threads that are stickied are never archived.)

Yes, I'm keeping tabs on it. But- it appears I'm expected to give a response, even if I don't have one.

And that may be the situation here.

Please respond soon and explain to me the policies on the matter and any decisions to be made

That seems to be a rather tall order. It's been my experience that most companies don't explain policies, and it's quite possible that whatever the situation and decision they make, they won't share it. And they might not have anything to say about it as oftentimes people try to play a game of "gotcha" with companies.

Let's say for example, (and this may or may not be the situation) that you are looking for a forum for men issues, much like Astrids. Or maybe it was to ask to get rid of Astrids. Or someone said something you didn't like, and you want to know why it's okay for them to post stuff like why they don't like 4e.

They just may not have an answer for you. Or,
If so, the issue is 'solved' on the user end because CS will handle the issue from that point only contacting the user as neccessary.

I suspect that's closer to the truth.

Or,

I suspect that's closer to the truth.

First things first:

Yes, I'm keeping tabs on it. But- it appears I'm expected to give a response, even if I don't have one.

I personally held no such [b]expectations[b]. (Note: That is not being said in a snide way.) I had a little wishful thinking and merely expressed it after it receiving the suggestion.

...that you are looking for a forum for men issues, much like Astrids

No. But thanks for making me laugh.

Or maybe it was to ask to get rid of Astrids.

Far from it.

Or someone said something you didn't like, and you want to know why it's okay for them to post stuff like why they don't like 4e

No, but it does have to do with policy on posting about a topic. For instance, and this is not the case, if I emailed CS asking for the policy concerning posting about politics and religion, would they just ignore my question?

My point is, even if they do not have a response, they should say so.

Think about this:

What if you called a company's customer service, asked them a question and they put you on hold. However, since they do not have an answer for you, they never bother letting you know that they do not have an answer. They also do not bother to even tell you that they are not looking for an answer. You finally find this out after, one by one, several acquaintances walk by and tell you that if they don't know they will just go about their business without even caring that you are waiting on another line or bothering to tell you.

How would the explanation 'that is just how they do things' sit with you?

This last is addressed not only to Webster but to any who wish to respond.
please do so.

Also, I forgot to make an important point.

To repeat, my submission was not supposed to be a conduct report but they decided to treat it las one.

So, that means they will either look at some posts or they will look at some posts and contact a poster(s).

Since I had to start a thread to get a three week old question looked at, if someone is contacted as a result of my so-called 'conduct report', it will be blatantly obvious who made the 'conduct report'.

Not only did I feel like I was getting my front teeth pulled to get this looked it, but I will lose the anonymity I have when 'reporting'.

That is very annoying.

On the plus side, though, you've learned how to change the filter settings so you can see more threads on a forum. And even learned how to change your default if so desire.

I have looked up this incident and it is in the queue to be read by people over my head. I know this doesn't help much, but rest assured it hasn't just been tossed aside. Perhaps they are discussing it? I'm sure they appreciate your patience.

You know, can they give a response saying that they are looking into it and leave the issue as "unresolved"?
If this is the case it is a huge public relations blunder.

On another note I summited my own complaint to customer service Sunday and I still have received no notice on it's status. It could be because it is something that should be looked into throughly before a decision is reached. However, some sort of response in situations like this would prevent people from reaching the conclusion that nothing is being done.

If I had to pick one, I would say "delusional"... not meaning offense to you personally, but rather I am making a crack about WotC customer service...

Well, the first was responded to within two working days of ORC Paradox lending assistance and passing it on up.

I have updated the discussion thread to my second leaving absolutely no doubt about what the question is I am looking for an answer to.

Thursday evening, ORC Chaos posted that it had been pointed out and passed on up apparently in a similar fashion to how Orc Paradox did.

So, Monday will be two working days after that happened and I am hopeful about that. However, I would most certainly not be surprised if I did not receive a response.

rumplestix...

Maybe they are just messing with you (and maybe even aware of this thread)...
Or maybe, one fly in the ointment is not cause for alarm... or even acknowledgment...
However, if there were a lot of flies....

Judging by how CS handles things, a lot of flies will make no difference whatsoever.

Checking the ticket, it looks like you got your answer. They will look into the issue. If they need further input, they'll contact you.

So, the count is 2 days after Paradox escalated it.

Wrong ticket. That response said it would look into the conduct report which I explicitly stated that I was not doing in the original submission.

I asked a question at the end of the first ticket. That question was never answered. (Actually I asked for an answer to a queston...)

Since they said they would not respond to the first question anymore, I updated my resubmission with the question that I wanted the answer to written out very explicitly so there could not possibly be any misinterpretation. (The response I received via email said that the question could be opened within 14 days if I was unhappy with my answer, so I just updated the still open resubmission...)

I still have not received the response to the resubmission with my question answered. The time in the title is the time since my second submission, the one which has not been 'solved'. My first was sent in 16 days prior to these 12 days. That is the one where they said they received my conduct report and would investigate it even though it was not a conduct report.

I owe CS an apology!

Because it was a matter discussing forum topics and not a conduct violation report, I put my submission into the Contact community team slot. Apparently, they are not a part of CS.

The community team remembered seeing it and decided that they needed time to investigate before answering. They said thet should have given me a response.

They said I should reply to the email if I had questions or more to say. I wonder how long it will be for my response?

That would be another thread, however.

Response received: 13 days 9 working after resubmission (which was 16 days after original submission...)

Since we're sharing, I also want to point out here something that I pointed out in the response mail which is there's a lot going on here with the new community team, and I am incredibly sorry for dropping the ball on getting back to RUMPLESTIX.

Sorry again to RUMPLESTIX and everyone who may have felt slighted due to this.

I read this post before I submitted a Customer Service request for a rules clarification, that I could not find in a FAQ or update. I was actually not holding out much hope for an answer based on this thread.

I was pleasantly surprised. Here is a timeline, as well as the text of the request, and the CS response.

Request Sent at 5:42pm 1/27 (automated response received right away)
Answer received at 11:45am 1/28.

So, in less than 24 hours, I received a game rules related answer/clarification. I also researched my question on these forums and EnWorld forums to see if there was any official response besides player opinions and reasoning.

I am pleased with the answer; it was well written and concise.

Text of question and response:
QUESTION
Customer (xxxxxxxxxx) 01/27/2009 02:42 PM
Healers Lore: "When you grant healing with one of your cleric powers that has the healing keyword, add your Wisdom modifier to the hit points the recipient regains."

Question 1: In "Astral Refuge" (p. 67) how are the +Wis hit points applied? Only once? Or on each of the 3 rounds in which the target spends a healing surge?

Question 2: In "Divine Power" (p. 67) are the +Wis hit points applied to "regeneration 5"? If so, only once? Or each round the regeneration is applied?

Thank you

Kevin,

Thank you for writing.

1. The Healer's Lore bonus would apply to each healing surge.

2. You would not gain the bonus to the regeneration of Divine Power, since regeneration is not a healing power.

Good Gaming!
