#1 zombiegleemax Dec 12, 2008 10:44:10	I feel that this would result in people being more prudent and less willing to violate the CoC if they knew that being banned even for a day would lose their custom account features. It doesn't even have to be permanentally...maybe a week each time you are banned or something. It would certainly lower the amount of rude/elitist type posts that seem to have taken an upswing. What do you think?

For example, there are contests on What's a DM to Do? and What's a Player to Do? that award custom titles as a prize. There's a bunch of other CTs around as well. I believe your statement is correct, though, for most custom avatars. The rest, as Mudbunny points out, are the folks least likely to cause problems.

Sites that mask your IP Address and such. The people that want to cause trouble, will. It comes with having to prove someone did something. Totally locking out the account and keeping a record, so once they come back and start it up again. Is the only way IMHO, because the ones that cause trouble will brag about how they were banned and got back in. But that takes keeping close eyes on all the posts. And with an user group the size of what we have... that is hard.

You just reconnect and you get a new IP. That's why IP bans are such an unreliable method.

Actually, it usually doesn't get them banned, it just gets silently edited.

We've had one person that posted something awful enough to get a IP ban and they haven't been back sense. That poster was a well known problem with multiple sock puppets and more than one permanent ban. That is the only IP ban that I know of being used here and it worked. On the other side I know of a poster that has taken steps to avoid an IP ban, has at least 10 permanent bans, and has dragged about this on the boards. Guess what? Because they don't aggressively reban those that use sock puppets he is still here. I'd suggest both methods be used.
