I am not asking for the almighty WizO powers, just the ability to sticky and unsticky things in my specific forum. I think this would help speed things up and also take a little of the load off the WizOs. Just throwing it out there, if its possible cool, if not whatever.

I am also not sure where this thread should go. It is the discussion of Paizo's 3.75 version of D&D. Perhaps merged into the thread here, which is a discussion of the differences between Paizo's proposed 3.75 version and WotCs 4E.

I don't know what "IBTL" is; but I've seen the word "douche" edited out of posts on the D&D side before. Remember that we have the same moderators, so it's unlikely that different areas have different rules.

IBTL = In Before Thread Lock
It's an underhanded way of saying that a thread is off topic/spammy and is soon going to be closed. People who post IBTL in a thread are trying to be, you know, slick.
The mods don't like it because the IBTLs themselves are off topic and usually drive a thread even more off topic.
It used to be rampant on our side but the WizO's brought down the hammer (so to speak). What happened after that was that people were posting things that looked like real posts but were just an excuse to try to get an even more subtle IBTL into the thread.
Example:

It's not that I dislike you.
But you haven't proven your case.
That's the real point.
Let's just drop it.
The WizO's weren't amused and really cracked down, so much so that I haven't seen *any* of them in a very long time.
I was under the impression that IBTL was still grounds for a warn, which is why I was so surprised to see it posted so blatantly.
Frankly, I don't know why that thread was allowed to stay open, with so many things wrong with it. Two final points though.
1) it's resolved (at least mostly) since the thread is locked.
2) We're off-topic for this thread. I definitely think there's something worthy of discussing here, though. If you'd like to start a new topic about editorial moderation vs conduct moderation, I would be happy to continue the discussion there.

I already know and understand that only one person can be logged into an account at a time and that there won't be any multi-user accounts (initially). However, both my wife and myself play d&d and plan on upgrading to 4e and using DDI to play with our friends online. I know we will both need our own subscribtions and accounts, paying two monthly fees....however we will not be buying two sets of books. Is there anyway that we will both be able to gain access to the E version of the books or will one of us just have to relegate themselves to opening the hard copy every time they need to reference something?
On top of this: will you have to purchase an E version of the 3 core books, or do you gain access to them automatically with a DDI subscription? If it's JUST supplements that need an E book purchase, I think we'll be okay. However, I think it'd be very annoying to be unable to reference the core books online while playing, especially when the version is still new in June.

I took care of this request. I have no idea why that thread was closed. I checked the VCL request forum and couldn't find any "paper trail" on it. Anyone see any additional requests or info on it that I might be missing?
I'm not sure why it got closed; if you want speculation, I'd take a guess that somebody reported the thread. But as I said, that's nothing more than speculation.

As for the closed thread, from what I'm reading the original poster asked for a character optimization, and didn't know where the board was. It was pointed out to him, and the original poster re-posted it rather than asking the thread to be moved, and asked the thread be closed.

Yes, I agree that discussion of how women are depicted in the 4E previews is more appropriate for Astrid's Parlor.

On a side note, having only two threads that are off-topic is a nice change of pace. I think the mass migration may have worked! (In the DM Board anyway)
General Forum would also be okay and I would take offense at a Cease & Desist, as the tool does not infringe in the least with DDI or any other wizards-related stuff we heared of.
The term "DM" is a WotC owned trademark; in addition, your program doesn't have to duplicate the DDI in order for WotC to shut you down.
Your best bet would be to get yourself a copy of the GSL and speak to a lawyer about how you can leverage the license to make a piece of software under the terms (if it's at all possible). You should also consider changing the name to "GM" rather than DM.

Hi first off I am not sure where to post this. I have been waiting for the new 4th edition of DnD for quite a while now. When i heard about the virtual game board where you could play with friends across the world i was very excited. I have been unable to find a group for the last 3 years living in western South Dakota. I waited for the release date with much anticipation much to my dissapointment the virtual tools are not ready. I feel that this edition is not complete without those tools that were so highly advertised and promoted. What i would like is an estimate on when they will be available for use. I am not asking for a specific date. A reply with say (it will be released in 1 month or say it will be available for use in 2 weeks) is good enough for me. If some one could give me this info I would be very grateful.

The post is helpul as there are nuances to the boards that can't or aren't spelled out in the CoC.
That and a lot of people don't bother reading the CoC, they just click through it.

Hey, can we get the "Problems with 4E" thread stickied? It actually really nice. the posters are civil, and issues within the system are addressed and fixes are being debated. All in all, it's a paragon of poster maturity and a fine example of how to conduct oneself on the forums.
I took a (very) quick read through the thread. While not appropriate for General Discussion, it might be more appropriate to be moved to houserules and then stickied there.

Here is a thread that I have created which contains all the links to various posts for base characters from the previous two threads (or at least as many as I can still find active links for). I would like to see if I can get mine stickied, and then unsticky the two that are no longer being updated. It'll clean up the forums at least a little bit.
I understand according to here that the people who run the boards are trying to move away from sticking more posts because of readability, however, some of the compendiums on that post are already archieved and thus are no longer being updated anyway.

For a number of reasons.
First, with all the forum changes there really isn't a specific forum for it. We did have a "digital D&D" at one point, and it may return again.
We have made exceptions in the past when a thread didn't fit 100%. A good example was before Gleemax when people started a thread on Three Dragon Ante. So, there's no harm in leaving that one thread there. - And before anyone gets the idea to start making similar topics, those will probably get moved to another area. Most likely the off topic board, but perhaps not. Intentionally trying to be disruptive IS against the CoC and I'll report such attempts to the WizOs.(Meaning no trying to prove a point, or trying to "get back" at anyone. The thread there now is the exception, not the rule.)
Speaking of which, I'm having the thread cleaned up before anyone gets reported for forum disruption. Derailing the thread the way it was isn't kosher.
The thread does fit in D&D general as it's a little application that is promoting 4e D&D. It's not a DDI component, otherwise it would be moved there.
And at the risk of sounding unfair, yes Scott Rouse started the thread so while he's not immune to CoC violations, I see no reason not to cut him some slack. I've busted my chops to get WotC staff members to start posting here, and I refuse to let them be chased away. Scott knows if something belongs somewhere else we'll move it. It's unnecessary to jump all over him for it, and against the CoC to derail his thread to discuss the merits of the thread and where it belongs.

As I told him and said in that thread which hopefully you do not have removed so HE can see....there is much confusion that needs to be cleared up about where to post since there isn't a place for some things, and as you said some forums have gone missing. It is great that staff do post, but like us, they need to know where so articles go to the proper forums and such.
So it was not the point he was in violation of the CoC, but there is mass confusion with the forum organization still where not everyone knows what is going on.
A concise list needs to be made for such things, so that ALL parties will have an idea where things belong.

Sorry if this is the wrong place to make such a request, seemed the most appropriate place. The current list of forums seems to really focus on solo type discussions, there is no place to talk about Party Building, and interaction of characters from a mechanics point of view. For those of us in the game for something other than the Solo-Arena style gaming (Ie: Roleplayers), such a thread seems much more interesting. Something where we can talk about our parties, how they best interact, etc.
Any chance of something like that forming in the near future?
Wrecan's suggestions are fine and dandy. You can also pop into the What's a Player to Do? forum for those discussions. The forum is intended to discuss any problem from a player's perspective, such as building a party, party interaction, and so on.

This thread either belongs in Previous Editions or in The Tavern, as it is a discussion about bardic instruments, and some of the instruments being suggested include Armpits, plankton and a wooden spoon/saucepan combo.

I usually stay off of the Forum Lead suggestion thread because it is meant for Forum Leads to make suggestions, but these ones on the list above do not belong in the Running the Realms Forum and I do not feel that they should be moved. Each of these threads is discussing a rule, class or ritual and not discussing how to use the rules specifically for Forgotten Realms. The one in the wizard forum was asking what people thought of a class. The one in the general section was asking what people thought of an adventure. The ritual one was talking about a ritual and the cleric one was asking how to build a cleric.
All of these fall within the category of their forums that they are in and should be left there. The FRPG is meant for any game, not just FR and therefor the material can be put in 4e forums not just FR forums.

The first one (in future releases) - meh, it could go or it could stay. It is a review, so it could also go in General Discussion as well.
Second one (in equipment forum) is talking about a specific piece of equipment. Ye, it happens to be a piece of equipment from the FR, but it is more on topic for the equipment forum. I would suggest to leave it.
The third one (review of adventure requested) could go either place, either GD or FR.
The fourth one (from Wizards) is simply talking about the PP, not the PP in the context of the FR. I would leave it where it is.
The last one (in the cleric board) should stay where it is. While they are talking about a FR cleric, they are talking about building a cleric. Quite clearly, it goes in the Classes forum.

The Running the Realms forum talks about implementation and integration. Its the same way that a thread in the RtR forum discussing whether or not Warforged should be changed to fit into Forgotten Realms shouldn't be moved to the Races and Monsters forums or the Eberron Forums. The threads I highlighted were talking about the new material in a fairly general manner meant for all 4e players and should stay on the 4e forums.

It should definitely not be sent to Rules Q&A, which is for quick questions and answers. That thread is already too long for the Q&A forum. Saving throws occur in combat, and affect tactics. If it doesn't belong on Combat, it should be sent back to General. It should not got to Rules Q&A under any circumstances.

I've crossposted Rob Douglas's Greyhawk move request (and split it into groups of 5) for moderator convinience. It should all be done by the ninth day that Other Worlds threads get restored to their original location.

Nytmare started this threadsome time ago in Prev Ed Gen. I started this one today in 4e Gen. It was intended to be a more visible version of Nytmare's thread in an area that gets more traffic. Nytmare has suggested that both be combined into one thread that will reside in 4e General and I agree that this is the best idea. The first is just a finger in the eye to those who have differing opinions. Of course, if I debated the actual topic of the thread, I would be starting a flame war. Therefore, so far, I have avoided it.
The second, has a lot of quotes to the effect of I like bothn but 4th is better because... I think you get the gist. The comparing is going on but you can't debate the comparing without being off-topic. It is really the same as baiting, in my opinion. So far, I have avoided it too.
