DND community needs to chill out.

There is something wrong with a significant part of the DND community. Worryingly a lot of them are respected bloggers and contributers.

Over the past 6 months or so I am seeing more and more comments about articles or books which seem to be looking for a reason to get angry. To champion the cause of one minority group or another and get articles removed or changed.

From people commenting that it's weird that the Medusa entry should make special mention of males who can rise up in society, to others getting up tight that the latest neverwinter theme makes a distinction between the titles the different genders have.

Some of the people commenting are within the circle of trust at Wotc and have the power to change policy or direction of the product. I fear we are heading for a system where the fluff is so gender/sexuality/race neutral that it looses any flavour it has.

People need to chill out and get off the PC bandwagon before they drive the game to such a vanilla state people are turned off it by sheer boredom.

It's ok to have articles that focus on males and it's ok to focus on females. It's ok to talk in broad stereotypes about cultures in a fantasy world as long as they are respectful, it's our differences that makes people interesting.

So please DND community relax let articles be written that are colourful and interesting without causing a twitter storm every time some uses the male pronoun or writes an adventure with jungle savages or writes a monster ecology article where shock horror the society is dominated by the males (or females).

Rant/plea for sanity over. Tongue out

I have not personally witnessed anything like this but then again I stopped reading Astrid's Parlor after bearing witness to what goes on there.

Do you mean the D&D community, or the Astrid community?

Although I agree that "chill out" is nearly always a wise course of action (although very rarely advice given wisely), your examples and anecdotes do not strike a chord with me. (I do not frequent Astrid's.)

It can't be Astrid's.  That forum has had one active thread in the last month, and it doesn't mention medusas (unless the threads he's referencing have been deleted).  I have no idea what he's referencing.  I haven't seen any discussion of medusa recently.

It wasn't about the community site here at the Wizards boards specifically but the DnD community as a whole. I am seeing a desire to find fault with products and articles in the comments sections in articles themselves and even more so on Twitter.

By the sounds of it Astrids is a forum I should keep well clear of. Wink

Perspective.  People need some while others need clean drinking water.
