Editorial Moderation Questions

Oct 26, 2008 19:54:20 I've seen quite a few posts of late that while not against the code of conduct, but should not be. This raises a few questions.

1). What exactly to editorial moderators do?
I have some idea on this, but would like a clear statement.

2). What constitutes an editorial violation?
I know edition wars on the 4th General Board get locked, but that's about it.

3). How does one report an editorial violation?
It seem off to use the report button for this. Is the report button the way that you are supposed to do so or what? I've reported spam and thread derailment in this way before in the past and rarely saw any moderation or even a posted warning, even when it was sever in nature unless it was also a code of conduct violation.

I don't think of it as a "violation". We're not here to smack people down and get them banned. Editorial moderation doesn't enfoce the Code of Conduct. Hitting the report post button should only be done for CoC violations.

Oct 26, 2008 21:23:38 I've reported threads before for going massive and purposely off topic or extremely spam laden and had about a 50% moderation on that. I figured that was because that kind of thing fell under editorial moderation.

Generally I though an response would be a request to put things back on topic. Not smaking them down or being banned.

-If I'm mistaken, please, let me know, because that opens up, like, a whole new door for threads that probably don't necessarily have to be closed, but end up doing so anyway.

What I tend to do is look for threads in the DDI forums and do my best to keep them on-topic. If people start getting off-topic, I try to nudge it back on topic or, if required, ask people to take their discussion to another thread and recommend what forum it should be in.

3). How does one report an editorial violation?

I ask people in the DDI forums to PM me.
