Hello everyone. I would first like to say that I have never played a game of DnD. I'm 43 years, and when I was a kid I got the red starters kit but never played it. Recently, for whatever reason, I got interested in DnD. After many a Google search I eventually ended up on Youtube. I would like to say there had been one or two other times that I kind of got interested but all the rules and such just scared me away because it seemed too complicated. I was just about at that point again when I ended up on Youtube.

I eventually found the Chris Perkins run games with the celebrities. I have to say at first I had no idea what in the world was going on. In an attempt to find myself some help I joined DnD Insider so that I could create a character (I still don't have the core books 4e or any other edition). This helped me quite a bit because I was able to take what I was hearing and seeing in the videos and follow along on my own character sheets. Once I had a better understanding, not only did the videos become more interesting and fun, but I was able to understand some of the jokes being made. At this point, I was hooked.

I have managed to watch all of the video podcasts and now I am listening to the audio podcasts as well. I find the audio podcast a little tougher to follow along because my mind starts to wander since I have a browser sitting in front of me. Still, they are very cool and I am still learning.

Before I make this any longer than it needs to be, I want to get to the point of the post. I would guess this point has been made before but just in case... I think WotC would do itself a favor if they were to do a series of video podcasts every two weeks or once a month following a group of adventurers as they do battle. I wonder how many potential gamers are out there who, like me, are just scared away by how complicated DnD seems to be. And while I think it is somewhat complicated, with the right DM (thanks Chris Perkins) its pretty obvious to me that it doesn't have to be so complicated that new players couldn't come sit with a group, and effectively play a character and have fun.

I am actively looking for a group in my area near Dallas. I am about to order a bunch of DnD stuff, including the core books, because of the videos on Youtube and the podcasts on the WotC website. It's because of those broadcasts that I feel as though I could join a group and not make a fool of myself. I think the DnD community would grow if podcasts such as these were a regular feature on this website. Oh and if Chris Perkins was the DM, all the better because I really think he's good at what he does.

Sorry for the long read.

Couldn't agree more - I've met quite few people in the past few months that have decided to give D&D a try based on the podcasts and videos.  A regular youtube series would be great.

Worth checking out meetup.com to find a group of players to get started with btw.  Welcome ot the hobby

Thanks Litmus. I actually found that site and made a contact with a DM who lives in the same city as I do, however his group is full right now. As of right now I'm not trying too extremely hard to find a group because I want to get the books and play an online solo adventure I found first (dnd.chromesphere.com/). Then, I will really want to find some people who won't mind a newbie.

Thanks for replying.. I was thinking no one agreed. ;)
