#1 dieffenbachj Apr 01, 2011 14:53:12	Okay, here's my problem. I posted a thread on the house rule forum. I realized a couple mistakes. Edited, fixed. Then I saw a couple other mistakes and wanted to fix a formatting issue. Edited, fixed... went to go fix another formatting issue, and the old formatting issues were back. And I realized the mistake fixes were back. I finally figured out what's going on. When you hit 'edit', the first time you do it on a thread it simply loads up the HTML, copies it to your text box in non-code form, and you can edit it freely. BUT the SECOND time you go to edit it, it DOESN'T do that: it loads up the ORIGINAL thread HTML, so if you edit it a second time you restore any edits done the first time. This can be quite a problem. So please, Wizard employee in charge of making these forums not suck: please add or remove code (whatever it is) so that when I open a text box to edit a post, it doesn't load cached text but INSTEAD updates the box with the most recent data. Thank you. EDIT: For that matter... why is it STILL the case (you've moved the forums out of beta, I'm sad you didn't bother fixing any of these problems before doing so) that the 'preview post' pane in no way reflects the formatting that will exist on the actual thread? So many times I try to do something neat with formatting, it looks beautiful in the preview pane, I post it, and it's like 10 pages of messed-up junk. Come onnnn, it's a very basic feature, 'previews' should actually be 'previews'

#4 dieffenbachj Apr 01, 2011 17:13:03	Oo, interesting it reverts to the second change. *fourth edit BUT now it sticks around.... seemingly random --- *8th edit, and i Lost 6 and 7 edit Very probaly it's browser-dependent, I know Google Chrome at least will attempt to detect if the page has had any major changes since the last time it cached it, and use the cached version if not (I know this because sometimes if there's a very minor page flaw that's been fixed, it'll keep it and I have to tell it to redownload it regardless of what it thinks). So probably there's a combination of detecting if the page has received edits that need redownloading and a timer which give the problems. Having said all that, I'm positive that there is a better way to have these forums load up the edit box that doesn't have these issues.

I generated several NPC names and posted each, figuring I'd go back to fill in the NPC info. Later, while working on a few NPCs in my list, I realized two NPCs too late that none of the information I'd posted actually made it, even after looking at the preview pane! GRRRRRR.
#6 dieffenbachj Apr 18, 2011 8:47:53	Just lost a bunch of edits because of this, so I guess I'll just leave my post looking sloppy and poorly worded, since it's impossible to fix now. The weird thing is, one of my edits that I typed up didn't actually make it to the page itself. Like, I hit 'edit', typed in a thing, hit submit, and it redirected me to the 'updated' post, but with no changes. It's as though whatever I typed didn't matter, it just pulled the information it needed out of a previously cached 'submit' cilck.

#8 vail_nocturne Apr 27, 2011 16:53:25	Here is a go, a go again. fancy another attempt, working on round three. Firefox 3.6.15 Okay #4 still not an issue. Have not seen this for a week... going to try to Preview this one then save it. Alright, ran through normal edit test, multiple times, and previewed. Thinking this is solved? At least It is not caching for me right now in Firefox. -- Should test this in an Old D&D Retro theme.... Edited this after going to a different theme in my profile. All content appears to be here. Previewing then posting... -- Now using Phyrx Theme and editing post content.
