Gamma World Content on the D&D Content Calendar

While checking the content calendar for the Character Builder update this morning, I noticed a lot of Gamma World content.

Gamma world is a different game, right?

Why is their content on our calendar? Why are we having a World Wide D&D Day for Gamma World? Why not Heroes of the Forgotten Kingdoms or the Dungeon Master's Kit or any of the other actual D&D Stuff that is coming out?

I assume WotC is trying to increase Gamma World exposure by linking it to their flag ship game, but it seems to be getting more exposure then some of the core stuff coming out these days.

Help! I am starting to feel marganalized again! Thanks, David S.

Note: Gamma World is not a community 'categories' for submitting posts...

Just thought I'd second this.  I'm sure Gamma World is great and all, but it's not really what I care about.

Gamma World in the Character builder?

Dark Sun?

At this point I would take ANY update to the character builder!

I just reviewed the content calendar for October and ~20% of the content is Gamma World related. Thanks, David S.

Well, it's because the product is D&D Gamma World.

In any case, I think they've confirmed it won't be going into the Character Builder, but I suppose I can live with it.

Wow--you are right!

I had not noticed that they attached the D&D Brand name to this product officially--I had been going with the information reported in wikipedia (entry on the seventh edition):
It will be compatible with the D&D 4th Edition rules and the System Reference Document,
but is not considered a separate D&D setting.

Because it is not a separate D&D setting & because I do not think it is the core setting, I therefore did not think it was D&D. Once again I am burned by the law of excluded middles!

Thank god! And they also recently confirmed CB will be updated 10/12 which is very welcome news!

However, from the wizards website:
This product is a complete, stand-alone roleplaying game that uses the
4th Edition D&D Roleplaying Game system as its foundation.

Stand-alone seems to indicate it is not D&D, but founded on D&D Rules indicates it is D&D...I am confused and to be honest at this point I think WotC may be confused as well. I imagine Gamma World will eventually find its way into online tools...

It appeals to D&D players as well as gamers interested in
fantasy science fiction set in a bizarre, post-apocalyptic world.

How big is this group?

I mean seriously, I enjoy the wacky creativity in Gamma World--the character builder random tables I saw made me laugh out loud, but I have no desire to actually play this game. Also, My game time plate is full. I barely find to time play in the gaming groups I have. Additionally much of the gamma world content I have seen is to mature for my kids [who make up 1/3 of my current gaming groups].

I realize that this is not the case for everyone, but I am confused why Wizards is focusing so much of their best talent on Gamma World at the expense of D&D. Thanks, David S.
