Dear Forum Folk,

I'm looking for some qualitative data from D&D enthusiasts who have started clubs at their local school, library, etc. for a new section on Play Unplugged website (www.playunplugged.com). The focus will be on introducing face-to-face gaming to kids and teens.

If you have any experience in this area I would love to hear about:

1. What inspired you

2. The important contacts and approval required

3. Obstacles

4. Finance issues

5. Management of participants

6. Materials

7. Successes and failures

8. Anything else you would like to share

If you feel comfortable sharing your experience, please send me a message via the forums or email info@playunplugged.com with club in the subject line. Your name, the name of any organizations, and all other information will be remain anonymous.

Preemptive thank you to those interested!

Sincerely,

Enrico

Ya know, I'd looooooove to just go and take my D&D gear and go to my son's high school and just set up a club to play........

But |'ve already been a Scouts Canada leader, and frankly I find the whole process of confirming I am not a sexual predator, not an emminent threat, sick and perverse, or all of the above both annoying, and to be honest thrill killing.

Be easier I suppose if I was 19 but alas I am 49. I'm merely disabled and stuck with a lot of days that might as well be Saturday to me.

Sign here sign that, police checks and all manner of rules, can't meet if there are only you and one student which means I need to have people show up in groups of at least two.
Sucks all the thrill out of a great opportunity to be surrounded by potential gamers.

I think if I were to win millions, I'd open a game store just so I could game all day, and not need to explain why I was gaming with the towns youths. I could game to my heart's content, and frankly I wouldn't even care if the store made money.

I ran a RPG club at my school about a decade ago because I had several students who were interested. It got disbanded after a couple of years because (1) the founding students graduated, and (2) the goals of the students didn't quite match my goals.

I think the school was hoping for an educational experience and not just a fun one, and that's the way I tried to run the club. I thought it would be interesting to discuss game theory with the students, to talk about dice probabilities, and educate them about many game systems. They mostly wanted to get together to play Magic TCG.
