So i have resently discovered that you can do D&D TableTop online, something that i have always wanted to do, but i cant seem to find out how to get it started.  I dont know what software, if any, that i need or how to make my character online.  is there a link i need to download or a group i need to join?  As i said i am very new to this.  I have never played a tabletop version of D&D in my life but i have always wanted to i could just never find anyone to play with.  So any help that anyone could provide me would be much appreciated.
                Eagerly awaiting your responses,

Buy the books.  Read them.  Use pencil, paper and dice.

If you want access to the online tools, you'll need to purchase a D&D Insider subscription.  Yes, purchase.  Not free.  But it's worth it, IMO, if you're gonna play.  Access to all the info without needing to buy all the physical books and it's not expensive in the least.  Some people are frustrated with it right now but if online stuff is what you're after, then that's what you need to do.

No problem, glad to help.  I don't know if you noticed, but there's also a specific forum or so for people that are interested in DDI.  I read a lot of stuff there before I purchased my sub.  You may wanna check it out before you buy.  If you want to just get right into the online stuff, though, buy a month.  It isn't expensive and you'll get a good test drive out of it.

yeah that is what i did, i bought a month so that i can test it out and give it a go, but when i launch the character creation program i come to a new page with nothing to click on...is this normal?  or maybe a resent problem that the makers are fixing?  its not a blank page it has pictures on the right hand side of what look like premade characters and the background is different shades of green but theres nothing there for me to continue with

To be honest, I just don't know.  I haven't used it in so long I can't remember (my group stopped playing).  The guys in the DDI forums ought to know.

Yeah, unfortunately it means I don't play at all currently.  We still hang out, we just BS a lot.  I actually kinda like having the extra time right now.  Very busy.  ;)  Thanks for your offer, too, but I'm afraid I won't be able to play.  Oh, and np on providing the info.  I'm just glad it helped.
