Positively the best piece of art in the entire collection of books is page 71 of the DMG. It's so good I want a printout at A3 or A2 format :P (well, probably A4 and stick it on my D&D portfolio)

Is there someplace where I can get a high res file of this I can take to the print shop or will WotC be offering this one for poster printing?

H'm... Try taking the picture to a print shop. Maybe they got a high-res scanner or something.
(I personally LOVE the one on 172... Bonelords are freaking cool, and that lich is awesome)

That picture on pg. 71 would be great if it didn't have the ugly arsed tiefling in it. Should have been an eladrin. Tieflings are definitely getting house ruled in my campaign. No way I'm letting that ripoff race into my campaign as is. They look like the draenei from WoW.

No way, the tiefling is made awesome due to him making a dwarf look this way. Really, this pic really makes the tiefling the most awesome race in the book.

Look like Draenei?! Did a rogue do Blinding Barrage on you when you saw a Draenei or something?

Are those two similar to each other?

Honestly, most people I know thought Draenei when we first saw the new tiefling, so we must all have problems with our eyes.

Give a tiefling blue skin and glowie eyes and they're a spitting image of the draenei.

Tieflings have been around and a playable race since at least 1994, long before there was a such thing as a Dranei.

Pays to know a little something about the game before you go jumping to conclusions. You're one of those people that are going to complain about Warhammer Online ripping of WoW when it comes out too.

To be honest now, this isn´t about the race it´s completly about the new look.
And yes they look a bit liek the WOW race, altough they have their own look - and that new look isn´t all that great. One of my players usually plays tieflings but the new look just grossed him out of it.

No we are just stating the obvious. WotC is buying artwork that looks like WoW artwork.

It seems to me that you are also ignoring the obvious fact that the artwork happens to resemble WoW simply because WoW borrowed a lot of its concepts from RPGs like D&D in the first place.

To me, it sounds like your accusing George Washington of trying to look like the guy on the $1 bill.

Tieflings are definitely getting house ruled in my campaign.

And mine. At least as far as appearance goes.

Tieflings have been around and a playable race since at least 1994, long before there was a such thing as a Dranei.

Tieflings didn't always look like the 4e concept, so that's a moot point. As AriaSilverhands stated, all they need is blue skin and glowy eyes. And in the case of the males, catfish whiskers instead of jawbone-horns.

You're kind of missing the point.

I think it would be more accurate to say that WotC is finally buying artwork that is on-par or better than WoW illustrations. (3.0 artwork, and what was retained of it in 3.5 is teh suck.) WoW has a definitive art style, and I would assume artist, for its works. Therefore, WotC trying to "copy" it would be obvious, as they would have a tendency to look like WoW paintings.

The only artwork that so far has screamed 'WoW' at me was the eladrin wizard on pg. 156 of the PHB... but as far as tieflings resembling draenei... well they both have horns, (sometimes) hoof legs and tails, and while I am aware that the representations of tieflings has previously underplayed the 'demonic' heritage to the point where they were basically just humans with horns, I cant say that I mind the new art direction.

I guess you could obtain a .pdf version of the book and press PrintScreen and save it. Maybe try doing that on a really big monitor.

Probably the easiest way to get one is by going to Dan Scott's website, since he is the artist.

Here is a link to the image.

And here is a link for his faq on purchasing prints. a 20"x30" print will cost you $45.

Hope that helps.

... and back-jointed legs with hooves, smaller tails and completely remove the horns from the males.

Oh, wait, the tiefling random features chart from the 2E planescape books that proves that tieflings could be blueskinned, glowing eyed, back-jointed legged, hoof footed, tentacle bearded and hornless. So, yeah, Tieflings had it first.

Yes they ahve been around since 1994, but they did not take on the look they have now until recently. They have definitely based the 4th edition Tiefling off of the Drenai.

When I saw my wife first playing a Drenai I did not think Tiefling (Which was already established in planescape). When I saw 4th edition Tiefling, I immediately thought Drenai... and I don't even play WoW.
