Unofficially, glancing over at my game shelf and my old copies of those books, the DMG is about twice the size of the other two books.  Checking page counts, the PHB has 128 pages, the MM has 112 pages and the DMG has 240 pages.  So, my guess is that is the primary reason for the price difference.
