| #1Titanium_DragonApr 08, 2009 16:54:27 | The title says it all. If someone sends you an abusive private message, how do you report it? |
| #2calronmoonflowerApr 08, 2009 17:09:20 | You need to e-mail a screen shot to Customer Service. A more detailed explanation is in my thread stickied at the top of the forum. [edit] Here's a quote. For private messages that violate the Code of Conduct take a screen capture and e-mail it to Customer Service. You must as with a report include the reason that you believe that the PM violates the Code of Conduct . |
| #3ZherogApr 08, 2009 17:11:57 | Something not in Cal's thread... I'm pretty sure Customer Service wants the screen shot image to be a jpg file. Also, don't delete the PM. |
| #4calronmoonflowerApr 08, 2009 17:17:01 | Something not in Cal's thread... I'm pretty sure Customer Service wants the screen shot image to be a jpg file. Can you post some evidence of that in my thread? |
| #5lord_karsusApr 08, 2009 18:12:48 | Also, don't delete the PM. -I'm not sure about that one. The moderators can look into the system, and see who sent who what, and what specifically was sent, so...I know, in the multitude of PMs that I've received that grossly violated the CoC, in some reports, I included the specific URL, saving it in my inbox, and in others, I simple put 'Private Message', and included the screen shot, and in the end, there was the same result. Can you post some evidence of that in my thread? -I have received feedback from CS stating that they preferred .JPG files, yes. Something along the lines of they open easier, or something like that. |

They can only "look in the system" and see if if a copy remains in either the sender's outbox or the receiver's inbox. If you send me a PM and we both delete it, there's no longer any data in the database. OK, there are ways to view it even if both are deleted. But generally speaking, they involve restoring a backup of the database and then applying the "re-do" logs up to the point where the PM was sent. That's a huge pain in the ass, and requires enough disk space to make a clone of the database. |
| #7RUMPLESTIXApr 08, 2009 19:51:54 | Maybe I am a computer moron, but how do you take a screen snapshot? ![]() |
| #8ZherogApr 08, 2009 19:55:37 | While on the screen you want to capture, press the print screen button. If you have windows, open up the Paint program in your "Accessories" group. Go to Edit -> Paste. Then go to File -> Save As and give it a name and location. I have no idea how to do it on a Mac or Linux machine. |
| #9phoenixmaster_dupApr 08, 2009 20:18:38 | If you're on a mac you press Command+Shift+3 and it'll automatically save the screenshot as a picture file on your desktop. If it's not a .JPG you can Control+Click to see if you can convert it into one. |
| #10calronmoonflowerApr 08, 2009 20:29:41 | Personally I have a screen capture program. It makes the process much simpler. |
| #11mudbunnyApr 08, 2009 20:48:11 | -I have received feedback from CS stating that they preferred .JPG files, yes. Something along the lines of they open easier, or something like that. I have been told by CS that if it isn't in jpg format, they can't open it... |
| #12morvannonApr 08, 2009 20:51:41 | I have been told by CS that if it isn't in jpg format, they can't open it... *blink blink* Are they running Windows 3.1 or something? |
| #13Seeker95Apr 08, 2009 21:18:28 | regarding jpg: It might be filters on their software. It might be company policy. It might be an over-statement made by an unaware CS representative. In any case, it is not a difficult request to comply with. regarding PM abuse: Unless it is a matter that could be addressed by the police (actual legitimate threats, etc.) there isn't much you can do about it in terms of punitive actions. However, if you place them on your ignore list, you won't get messages from them. Going through CS is unlikely to result in much outcome, but requires much effort on your part. Putting them on your ignore list is quick, easy, and requires no further effort. |
| #14lord_karsusApr 08, 2009 22:29:27 | regarding PM abuse: -Individuals have received both temporary and permanent bans on accounts because of Private Messages. I have had a lot of "experience" with this in the past, about a year ago or so. I will note, however, that it took a while for anything to be done in my case, which is, I think, fairly stupid, given the content of most of the messages I received from this individual. |
| #15Seeker95Apr 09, 2009 6:36:38 | Incorrect they have issued warnings and outright permanent bans for Private Message abuse in the past. That they have issued permanent bans does not make my statement incorrect. The permanent ban PMs have fallen into the category of legitimate threats. And as Lord Karsus noted, it required time and effort. |
| #16Titanium_DragonApr 09, 2009 6:41:05 | I've been temp banned myself for writing a "I'm putting you on my ignore list now because you're a troll" message before, so I can tell you they do deal with it. |
| #17samyueruApr 09, 2009 12:46:20 | *blink blink* Would you be overly surprised if they were? |
| #18ORC_SinisterApr 09, 2009 21:03:32 | Calronmoonflower is correct. Screen shot and send to customer service. Please use a jpeg. |
| #19kletian999Apr 10, 2009 0:27:56 | jpeg is one of the smallest image formats in terms of filesize since it's lossy compression- Email inboxes might have issues with pictures of other formats depending on their size limits. |
| #20sengirworgApr 11, 2009 5:18:03 | Incorrect they have issued warnings and outright permanent bans for Private Message abuse in the past. Yeah and if you just put them on the ignore list you don't get that much coveted revenge rush. hehehe |
